Olight X9 @ 25k Lumen

Just this…

What? No way. Why would you think that?

Based on what evidence?

It is a bit underwhelming what working on a bit light means for Vinh, bare LEDs with nothing to collect and at least give a mediocre 2candelas per lumen, and just using a couple of BLF direct driver 17mm PCBs hanging by the wires or insulated in kapton take inside the host.

All this hype has finally faded for me, it seems the throw of this thing will be quite small like under 500M. Maybe I will pass, after a while flood gets boring.
LED’s are getting all about lumens & numbers, just add more & more, no wonder it’s cheap. If this thing had a 1600-2000M throw with considerable spill/flood I would be all over it. I remember the days of aircraft landing light mods like LK14 with their amazing wide far throwing beams. I had wished LED’s would go in that direction just further.

I saw vinh’s 40000lumen video & its just like these videos of 50” light bars., too much close range light that is boring.

Still a crazy amount of light, i think this is the realm of enough for a hand held light. They need to work on massive throw.

How about gettin the X7R Marauder (12k lm) for 165 euros, which is 72.3 Lumens per euro?
which translates to 190$ , so thats 63 lm/ $
think it was a pretty good deal all in all, right?

That UI, though. I could not live with that.

What do you mean? you don’t like the way in which you click through modes on the X7R?

About price per lumen
Recently many brands have broken the record
Like astrolux mf-01, which is about 12000 lumen/78$, which is about 153 lumen per dollars
Crazy, right :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s really crazy is how few seconds you can actually get that light output for.

+1

Exactly. You can’t turn it on to the brightest level. You have to double click, pause, then double click again to get to turbo 2. It’s like a safety nanny. They won’t let the 2 higher levels be memorized. That does not work for me.

I would much prefer an MT03 or MF01. They work better stock. The work super great when upgraded with NarsilM FET drivers. Even upgraded, it’s still cheaper than the X7R.

What will better for MF01 if we upgrade this way?

Are you asking about the upgrade I mentioned?
Lexel makes new drivers using the ramping firmware NarsilM. It’s a FET driver so you get more output on turbo. The user interface is really nice. It’s ramping so you can set it at whatever level you want including being able to memorize the brightest level. You can set the turbo timer to what you want or set it to a user defined temperature. You’ve got battery check where it blinks out the battery voltage. I’m a big fan of it.

you should calculate sustaind lumens per €
what brings a 12k Lumen light after 5 Minutes, to hot to hold without gloves and stepped down to 2-3k

Only certain people need sustained lumens. I’m not one of them.

It’s pretty easy to judge sustained lumens just by looking at the size of the light and it’s heatsink area.

The general rule of thumb is if it’s not huge or has a built in fan, then don’t expect more than 2k to 3k lumen sustained.

Should we do Cri per dollar too :stuck_out_tongue:

I hope this hasn’t been post yet. New movie about Olight X9R With Active Cooling

I would definitely want the option to attach a solid handle for such a big light.

Not me. I would prefer a sling to carry it.
Using a sling makes it not only easier to carry - especially for a prolonged period - but you can put the light away and have both hands free without the necessity
to put the light down somewhere.

It’s a fantastic looking light though, makes me drool…………but I’m afraid it will cost a small fortune.

Cheers
Nico

The X9R actually does NOT have active cooling. The X9 prototype had a fan, but they abandoned that design and went with basic cooling fins.
