Astrolux MF03 - new pictures + video

You won’t get it here.
Buy GT and do a swap.

The first light to come on the market with active cooling is probably going to be by one of the bigger, more high-end companies and it’s going to cost a small fortune. You can’t expect active cooling on a budget light.

I think the most continuous power light on the market can only do 6k lumens. You really can’t expect a big jump to 10k continuous. You have to follow the rules of science.

I think it was more like 10 xhp70 or 70.2.

Looking at the side profile, it may use TIR lens instead of reflector. I hope not. I think shallow SMO reflectors would give a good mix of throw and flood.

Yep, exact same proportions, same shapes, same number of fins, etc.

I just saw a review for a flashlight called Storm RA.

Made by a company called, silent ordnance.

The thing is a beast of a thrower.

These are the specs:

Welcome to the Storm of Ra, at 600,000 candela it is one of the most powerful production throwers of all time, but with vastly more lumens. How many more? 8000 lumens at the emitter, about 6000 lumens out the front, and we don’t mean reflector style mostly wasted in wash, we mean 6000 lumens IN THE BEAM! But wait, unlike the typical soupcan blaster, there is no turbo, this light can operate continuously at this output thanks to active cooling.

The Storm of Ra is a light born from innovation and experimentation. We make extensive use of 3D printing, it is just an incredibly cost effective way to prototype and generate jigging and tooling. It is a tool which allows us to easily test exotic optics setups, novel forms of thermal management, unusual power configurations, but what if it could be used to make a complete light? This question arose one day when we were working on the design for a powerful all-wood light. We were prototyping with a 3D print, and it was noted the prototype itself was a remarkably effective and complete light in its own right. With a few tweaks for interface, production, and function it’d be fantastic. Would there be a market though for such a product? It’d have the advantages of light weight, modest price, and staggering performance. But would the undue stigma of 3D printing haunt it? We had no idea, but before pressing forward with what’d be a vastly more expensive hardwood gigathrower, we thought we’d release the Storm and see what people thought.

Modes are controlled by a three position toggle switch. Rearward is off. Flicking the switch to its center position turns the light on. The forward position is a momentary off, allowing the same intuitive and familiar mode switching common to tailswitch lights. Firmware is GuppyDRV rev.2.

If this concept gains traction, far from the last, this will be just the beginning for both lights and accessories. What about an adapter to run the storm off a vehicle? Or something even more monstrous? The sky is the limit, but if people like this concept the price doesn’t have to be too.

*OTF lumens are ALL incorporated into the beam, unlike a reflector light where approximately 50% are wasted in wash.

How come no one here has thought of a beast like this one before? If this company has managed to harness the power of the XHP 70.2 free emitter to make a thrower with 6000 lumens at the hot spot, why did no one attempt making a thrower like this here before?

App apparently they made another thrower that has 2,000,000 cd. That’s 2 millions cancels folks. It seems to me like they had already created their own giga thrower.

Any thoughts?

2 million candela it’s what I meant. Forgot to mention it also had a big heatsink and a fan on the back as well.

well - that 3Dprinted lights are not really of my taste ;)

Yeah it’s basically a 3D printed light that’s not weather proof, has an exposed fan, an ugly beam and 15 minutes of runtime on high (uses two 20700 or 18650).

My thought is that it has nothing to do with this thread.

Let’s talk about the MF03, shall we?

MF03 = more fun part3?

Well, when I think about the Storm of Ra… and I think about the videos I’ve seen about that light… And then fill my mind with MF03… OMG OMG!!! MF03 is SO awesome!

So that’s what that storm is good for.

Come on, build quality ain’t good, but nevertheless it is:

  • one of very few if not the only actively cooled flashlight on the market
  • the throwiest 6000 lm LED flashlight

Still, it’s OT. MF03 is a big flooder. I think more than 4 LEDs as with just 4 the optics would be very shallow, so I guess it has more.

I do NOT consider that STORM OF RA a flashlight,at least not one that you can carry easily in one hand. certainly not one you can esily bring on a walk, especially the trail.

My TK75vn QUADD SST40 SD has 2000 more lumens and 270 yards Less throw. You can operate it with one hand and it is more reasonable to use as a flashlight on the hiking trails or where ever.

not even in the same category…
go away…

Dont ruin my dreams :expressionless:

I still think its possible to buy a light which will produce 50k lumens continuous with U$89

I 100% agree, all that guy does is gloat about his overpriced Vinh lights, go back to CPF you pest

Olight already produces a flashlight with active cooling

I think a lot of you guys completely missed the point of the discussion I was trying to get started. I simply threw the Storm of Ra into this thread, because someone mentioned building a thrower with XHP70.2. I wanted to show that it is possible to build a flashlight that throws far with an XHP70.2 in it. I know the Storm of Ra’s build quality is the best, but it is a working light that has bigger throw than the former throw king, the TN42.

I think maybe we can incorporate some of what those guys did with the Storm of Ra, into the MF03?
I don’t know about all of you but I would love to have a flashlight that can output great lumens, has active cooling and throws far. If I have to pay more for quality, I really don’t mind, as long as the built quality, specs, and most importantly, the performance is there.

Did anyone say 2-mile long distance throw with 8000 lumens in the beam? I can always dream.

The build quality is not the best I meant. But as I said, it is a working flashlight.
