A Budget Headlamp if I've Seen One!

Sigh- just bought a Boruit RJ-02 based on this thread, seems perfect for running at night. I seem to be buying something flashlight related about once a week or so now, wife is starting to complain, if only she knew how much is still en-route….

+1 :money_mouth_face:

I was never really into headlamps, I had a cheap 4 buck special from Sportsman’s Guide that was pretty much worthless. Then I came across VOB’s video of this light and did a 180, bought the headlamp, tried it on - comfortable, works great! Now I’m praying for a snowstorm (haven’t used the snowblower in two years),a power outage, anything so that I can put it through its paces.

Thanks VOB!!

I’ve got three cheapo headlights, the forehead “Richard” type, and two smaller 3x AAA lights. Two main issues; comfortable to wear, and suitable for the task. The head dongle type have too much wiggle to suit me if my head is moving, too much momentum and leverage by sticking out. The other comfort issue is weight, I don’t care for weight on the front of my head, vs battery in the back or wired to a pocket or belt. Minor comfort issue is sweat management, some make it worse, some make it better.

For a lot of uses any headlight works well maybe replacing or supplementing 3 or 4 fixed lights. Headlights with a small red LED are great for giving just enough light to safely walk in the dark without disturbing others or losing night vision.

My current go to headlamp is one of the cheap, $5 shipped type of 3x AAA, 5 mode (red, hi, med, low, stb). Feels cheap, not remotely water resistant, a bit bulky with battery up front, headstrap what you would expect for the price, but works well enough I am not motivated to upgrade.

Matt,

Great Video as always!

2 questions if you can find out from your contact @ Wowtac;
Will there be a Neutral White version available of this A2 as they have in the A2s version?
And can they run a special discount for purchase of 2 or more for gifting?
Or any further discount as this headlamp has been at the $19.99 price point since it came out.

I own the A1 and A1s and love them both, so this headlamp has been on my radar for quite some time, just need a reason to push the launch button:)
Thanks!
Later

Keith

I’ve been using the WOWTAC A2 for five months now and it has been performing flawlessly .
I bought two of them , one for me , one for my wife . The UI is easy for a novice to figure out , and I am beginning to like the built-in micro USB charging batteries .

My favorite headlamp so far .

Same question here. Any other source for this headlamp?

Since I’m literally across the globe, shipping would likely cost more than the item…

I am considering this A2S headlamp but I’d like to figure out a pocket clip for it first…I’ve seen multiple comments on different flashlight clips that will work but are these clips available for purchase separately or does a person have to buy a donor flashlight to get the clip?

thanks

Just pulled a Convoy S2+ clip off of my BLF A6 and it fits nicely on my WowTac A2. These clips are cheap and available separately for purchase. I’ve bought at least 8 of these from Simon.

thank you for the help.

good vid/review, watched your giggles one a few weeks ago, you do great work! not sure if this would help as it may extend your tube too far, but you can get a pvc end cap and short piece of tube, drill a hole in the center of the end cap and you can get those right angle lights situated better in your set up.

Can you remove the light from the plastic housing and use it as a normal flashlight?

Yes you can. You can even use a pocket clip from other flashlights (see posts above)

I had the OCD problem too :stuck_out_tongue: It took me a long time to accept the L shape light. At the beginning, I always turned the light bulb to the middle of my forehead. After a while, I turned the headlamp into normal position. I kept doing this 2 steps until I feel annoying. Finally, I accepted

I like angle lights, like the Skilhunt models etcetera.
I don’t use them as head lamps though.
For a head lamp i want the light source in the middle too.

About this Wowtac A2(S), i can only find it on ebay from US sellers, which would mean $17 shipping, so it’s not attractive…
I don’t understand why they’re not sold by AE, BG, GB, FT or KD.

FWIW, the Wowtac A2S is sold at Amazon with prime , which made it a real easy decision to try it out. Very happy with it for the price!

Does it have a magnetic tail?

A friend of mine ordered one when I told him about this review. He should have it in a couple of days. Can’t wait to see it.

Does not have a magnetic tail. Nor does it have a strobe mode.

Could epoxy a rare earth magnet if thats a big sticking point (saw a review that did that for this light).

Thanks CB
