Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

This thread kinda swings both ways from what I remembe. Mainly because Simon recommends Protected cells on his site.
Most members here do not want protected cells, including myself, and Jdub managed a deal with BG early on for the black unprotected Keep 5000mAh. I bought those for my first L6 because I intended to mod it.

But seriously consider measurements with any cell you may buy. L6 is pretty picky on diameter and length and the tops of cells need to be high enough to contact the other cell in series.

Convoy recommend the 69.5mm protected Keeppower (which as far as I’m aware is actually INR, not ICR as commonly thought). I doubt that in the stock L6 there would be any significant difference in performance between the protected Keeppower and unprotected Liitokala.

There’s not. I tested it.
I actually got a bit higher amps on the brightest setting with the KP for some reason (it might be an anomoly), but as soon as you resistor mod it, the Liitokala has the advantage. Then with a FET driver the Liitokala has a much bigger advantage.

The Black LiitoKala 5000mAh 26650 or the light blue one are the best cells for the L6. Hands down.

Edit: Unless you want to adapt it to iJoy 21700’s.

*If you want high drain and unprotected.

That wasn’t the question, not a matter of what someone wants the question read which is best.

What do think the best protected cell is?

I’ve heard the Orbtronic has a 15A ability, but I don’t know much about how it handles current at the limit. Such as limit it or just shut off.

I’m thinking the KeepPower 5200 are the best protected.

Greetings all!

I may as well chime in on this…
The cell recommended by Convoy and the cell the L6 was designed around is indeed the KeepPower 5200mAh as listed in the OP and recommended by Simon himself. Keep in mind though that was definitely stated with safety being priority #1 and that is based on the stock L6. In stock form you will see little if any difference from a higher-drain cell. Again, that is only when referring to the STOCK L6.

If you’re running a modded L6 with a different driver setup there are definitely better high-performance cells out there like the black LiitoKala cells or the light blue or any others Dale or Kawiboy or any of our other modding maniacs recommend.

Thanks for all those remarks guys. As I intend to offer it as a gift, I'll stick on the most secure solution.

Do you have any source stating that? Their own site is not sufficiently detailed. A "new" 6000mAh option is also listed there.

Interesting, this is the first seemingly legit 6,000mah 26650 cell I’ve seen.

Seem to be close to the 27mm diameter side though.

That is nice, 6000mAh 26650. They are listed for unprotected too. 20A continuous.
And some 18350 1200mAh 10A cont…

They have a line of flashlights.
Got some 26650 spacers for pack builds also.
Thanks for the link! Cool stuff to look fwd to.

I’ve forgotten what the diameter limit was on the L6. 26.8mm doesn’t sound like an issue, though.

Wow, they show to have protected 18650 cells with a 15A ability.

IMO KP 6000mA = Shockli IMR26650 .

Shockli IMR26650 5500mAh (Black) 2017

http://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/Shockli%20IMR26650%205500mAh%20(Black)%202017%20UK.html

Saw the 15A protected. Kinda wonder on that if its just a burst delay or full current before protection. Full 15A sorta defeats the purpose of a protection circuit. I don’t know.

Just measured the tube of my recent L6, 26.85mm at both ends. Would definitely need to be smaller than that.

The link doesn’t work.

Are you referring to that reddit post where they suspected the KP 6000 as being the same as the Shockli 5500?

Not really. The protection circuit protects against 5 things:

1. Over voltage
2. Under voltage
3. Over temperature
4. Short circuit
5. Over discharge

Most people only get protected cells for the first few reasons. The discharge limit is sometimes an aggravation that’s it too low. It prevents people who want a protected cell from being able to use a high current light. Like the Emissar D4 at 11 to 12 amps for example. With this battery they can get the 4 other safety features and still have turbo. It sounds good to me. :+1:

I measured mine on both ends and got 26.99mm. It’s an earlier version, though.

I remember reading that some of the newer batches of L6 battery tubes were a bit smaller in diameter than normal. I wonder if you have one of those?

I had a clear L6 I modded and sold, and the batteries I still have fit tighter in my new Black L6. Black litto need the tube off and pushed through to get out. Not tight enough to hurt the battery at all, but the air can’t pass to allow them to fall out even with a bump. I can see just the addition of the metal strip up the side of a protected cell making them too tight. My black Keeps are just slightly looser.

Didn;t know the tubes got smaller, I initially just thought it was the difference in the black compared to clear anno thickness at first. But I did notice the difference.
Maybe that is why the L6 has had good coupon deals lately for $45? I just bought another black NW this morning.

It was around April of this year that certain batteries seemed to grow in diameter and the L6 tube got a tiny bit smaller. So people started measuring. Some were tubes were 26.79mm and some were 27.12mm. A lot of variations.

I think about here or the page before is a good starting point if you want to read about it.
