Review: Sofirn C8F XPL (Pic Heavy)

Yes.
But USA Amazon shoppers will still wonder why they got a light missing parts and don’t work. They will make negative reviews to prove they are idiots.
Perhaps on the Ali site in the parts and accessories section.

Yes I thought about Ali store to buy host.

I know Sofirn is following the reviews, wanted to express the idea with some thoughts.
Definitely want to see a host made availble with MCPCB, no driver or emitters.

ImA4Wheelr, thanks for the review and code. Mine is coming tuesday and cost $32.67 USD with Prime.

I wonder who makes the Sofirn branded battery.

I just talked with somebody from Sofirn on Aliexpress about the C8F host. They will make some pictures and data for leds and driver size and make a listing from host with MCPCB soon. That was pretty quick  I don’t have any Sofirn lights. Waiting for my first SP32A and I will buy this host but this quick reaction for what flashaholics want is outstanding! I like it!

Thanks ZozzV6, yeah that was pretty neat for it to get rolling that fast. :+1: Sofirn
Almost makes me want to cancel the Amazon order, Almost… but I don’t want to wait either.
Yes, this will be my first Sofirn too. I was PM’d an offer from Tracey to review this light, but I declined. Almost sounded like they wanted Amazon review too and I won’t do that. But I am also too OCD about quality details and tend to reflect negativity. After the first version of this light I was skeptical I could do it in a positive way.

Just realized the LED SW board isn’t hooked up, posted earlier… Glad it’s there and I will be utilizing it my build.
Just got a black L6 and have some clear SW covers on the way from Simon, if the translucent black are too dark.
Yeah, can’t wait that long to order the host from Ali…

Oooh! They sent me one too, glad they ended up polishing it well.

Triple XP-L2? Is turbo accessed with a double tap?

Protected high discharge cell measuring that capacity probably means it is an HG2, don't you think?

Cheers :-)

The stock is triple xp-l but with a host I will be make a triple XP-L2 or XP-L HI. I have time to choose.

I like this light. It’s like a BLF mod right out of the box.

Caved in and Ordered it with the code.
Thanks ImA4Wheelr for all the data, makes the decision easy.

I measured the L6 mode button and it will fit  But maybe it will be a little too high. It is 6,6mm overall height.

Those 4X4 switches can have the brass buttons swapped for various height. The tin lid can be popped off and the brass part changed without desoldering the whole SW.

edit; Also just checked the L6 silicone side button, the nipple inside is long, all the way to the base. It will work, may have to trim the nipple or swap the brass on the 4X4 but I think it can happen either way. I want to try keeping the translucent black first. I don’t have one in hand but I think the SD26 also used the translucent black button.

I only talked about the rubber boot. I can’t cut down the rubber boot side because there is the lip.

Added some to above post.

Q8 also came with a spare clear Silicone, but same height as L6, but shorter nipple inside.
will look on KD to see what they got too.

The nipple is not a problem. It is easy to cut.

The traces look great. There are 2 that cover the whole MCPCB. One that fills the center section out to the emitters. The other from the emitters to the outer edge of the MCPCB.

Cool. Looking forward to your thoughts on the light.

I think they used XPL's for the higher Vf. Seems like a good way to tame down a DD light for the masses.

I'm not up to speed on cells. That sounds like a good hunch because I've never had a protected cell that can belt out 8.8amps with no issue. Also the internal resistance measured as low as my Lii-500 ever reads.

vwpieces and ZozzV6,

Not sure if this helps. The well that the switch boot fits in is about 12.8 - 13mm in diameter. The 14mm boot fits in it nicely. The Q8 boot is a bit bigger. I think too big if I remember correctly. The switch PCB looks identical to the 2nd run Q8 switch PCB from the top side. I didn't have enough time last night to pop out the Q8 pcb to see if the back was the same. The LED's on the C8F switch PCB are green and are quite bright when tested with a DMM. The 2 resistors are 33K ohms.

ZozzV6,

That's great news about the host. Generally, it's a big wrestling match to get a manufacture to provide a host only option. Nice work.

Is a single click on and off? Is turbo in the mode sequence or does it have to be double click each time?

When going triple parallel one thing to note is emitter consistency for the current to be shared among evenly, realizing also that the effective Vf in a triple is “slightly lower” because only a share of the current hits each emitter.

There's only one worthwhile 18650 high discharge cell which tests slightly above 2800mAh down to 2.8V at 0.5A, the HG2. Your figure is just a hair below the one tested by HKJ and that I think is because of the slight protection circuit burden. Someone is now producing protection circuits with additional MOSFETs for 18650 cells, the usual ones sport 2x 8205As but with twice that figure up to 15A continuous is achievable if heat on the MOSFETs is not much of an issue.

Cheers
