Possibly a good deal on ebay - Ended up as a scam

They're probably counting on either drawing the money out before people are supposed to get their stuff, or that many people won't bother for <$10.

You'll get your money back, but it's kind of a hassle.

Or I guess it's everyone's lucky day and somebody wanted to give out free lights

I can't resist even though it totally looks like a scam. Not only the pictures but also the whole auction text including estimated shipping times are a blatant copy of cyberport888.

well we will see how the ebay protection works :)

I have just bought SR-5 and R5-A3

My thoughts exactly.

Certainly sounds too good to be true. I've seen new sellers practically give stuff away in order to get five star DSRs and qualify for eBay's power seller program but, in this case I agree; nine bucks for a SR-5 and a R5-A3 just screams scam. And a pretty stupid one at that -- even if the guy actually manages to spend the money before Paypal catches on and freezes the account (and they're not really shy about that either), he's still likely to face federal charges.

I've had the R5-A3 on my whishlist since it came out. I seriously doubt I'll ever get it but at $9, oh well, I'll give it a shot.

What the heck. I don't have one of these yet and it looks like a XP-G R5 from the pictures. So I bought one. I know my chances of losing my money are greater than 50%. Not sure how this will work out if the guy sends something completely different because I'm sure not going to throw more money away sending the thing back.

Paypal shows the payment status as Unclaimed. Does that mean this guy doesn't even have an account yet? The payment just goes to an e-mail address.

I contacted one of the many sellers that sell those 800 lumen "skyrays" and told me it is a q5.

The best thing is if we contact other ebay sellers that are sellling the same products and tell them, maybe they will reduce their prices?

It's far to close to Christmas , this seller can blame the post if people do not get their lights, also gives him more time to scam if he is a scammer

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAUTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased an R5A3 and is says " payment status as Unclaimed" and "vendor not registered" SO I CANCELLED IT

I'll mark my calendar to file a dispute in 30 days. That gives them another 15 days I think. At that point you escalate to a claim and get your money back. There's no reason the guy can't get it to me in 45 days.

I wonder if this guy had 2 of these, put up the ad, and went to bed. Next morning he wakes up and he's sold 300 of them.

It's suprising that eBay would even let a seller post something and set up a store without an activated PayPal account.

Here's the original CyberPort888 ad they ripped off:

http://cgi.ebay.com/CREE-Led-800-Lm-Rechargeable-Flashlight-18650-Torch-SR5-/300492276862

They charge about the same price, but add $28 for shipping.

did anyone even try contacting him first?

thats my first step with new sellers.

send him an email. no response, its a scam. simple as that.

but if someone gets a response. im in for a few!

Well done for volunteering

sigh... u guys are friggen rediculous lol

We know who to blame if it all goes wrong?

I'm not going to name anyone

"The user you are contacting is registered on another eBay site and may speak a different language. Your message will be sent exactly as typed below"

haha funny

Haha!

Well, you can't kill the messenger for bad news. Anyway i checked my paypal status and it was indeed unclaimed playpal account. I decided to cancel my transaction and contact the seller! Maybe ill get the flashlights eventually if all goes well with any feedback. Before anyone reaches for a firearm i would advise caution since many pointed out that is probably a scam.

If anyone would be upset with me for exposing a possibly good deal that turns out a scam i suggest to ignore the ebay link.

Thanks for sharing the option to cancel paypal transactions. I didn't know it was possible to do so. I'm new to paypal.

what you talking about. kings kill messengers all the time!

If someone wants to write a simple guide how to not get scammed on ebay ill be interested to read it. :)

They used to. :)

I did the same thing. I believe we're still committed to buy the item if he will accept payment though. We'll see what he says.
