Acebeam X80 color and output measurements

the loaned me the Acebeam X80 for a couple of weeks so I could run some tests on it. Took some beamshots too, but this is not a full review.

25000 lumens max output
4x18650 batteries
12x CREE XHP50.2
2x CREE XPE2-R2 630nm
2x CREE XPE2-B4 475nm
2x CREE XPE2-G3 530nm
1x Nichia 233A 365nm

The four 18650 batteries are in series.


Battery carrier springs are very short. The bundled batteries barely fit and are difficult to remove without damaging the wrapper on the positive end. The ones that come with the X45 have too proud a button and don’t fit. Short unprotected ones are too loose. So it’s almost as if Acebeam made the battery carrier compatible only with their own protected batteries with high discharge current. Basically, you could classify it as a proprietary battery pack that is only guraranteed to work with the protected Acebeams.


It doesn’t matter which way you put the carrier in the light. Center is always positive.

Tint and color rendering


Tint in different brightness modes. Some green on the lower modes but overall I was happily surprised with the clean cool white tint.


Tint shift throughout the beam. Not bad at all!

Output

The X80 is the most efficient flashlights I’ve tested so far at 400-800 lumen level. It chugs on at regulated output for over 8 hours with a barely warm surface temperature of 40°C.

PWM

There’s some flickering evident on all modes, but it’s very high frequency and not visible.

Thanks! It was mostly measurements, not my subjective opinions, that’s why I wouldn’t classify it as a review.

Although the light doesn’t have a big stepdown on high, it gets very hot. After 30 minutes (when I stopped the runtime) the light was 70°C, which is already getting a bit too hot for the batteries. So don’t leave it on without supervision.

The X80 is quite amazing, but it’s not all roses either. There’s a couple UI things I’d like to see improved.

In addition to the color modes in the basic mode cycle that you can’t skip, the X80 has some bugs in its UI (just like the K30). Memory doesn’t work properly when switching between turbo and normal/color modes. If you switch between turbo and turbo max and return to normal mode cycle with a long click, you will not always come back to where you started. Same goes for moon. You can never be absolutely sure what mode you’ll go back to when exiting the special modes.

Me too. :slight_smile: So I did something for it… Together with Acebeam we made a new UI for X80:

Fixed with above mentioned new UI.

All of these were fixed too. And now normal double click works for the Turbo->Max Turbo.

…and when you have blue and red emitters, you must have a “police mode” too… :smiling_imp:
