The NEW Sofirn C8F Triple XP-L W2 w/side e-switch

I had a ’77 Cadillac Seville that had the Cadillac wreath hood ornament, it was affixed via a short cable on a spring, it’d flex over without breaking off. I liked seeing that ornament when driving, and the flying woman on the old ones was really graceful.

Times change, too fast it seems…

That reminds me, some of those old style hood ornaments may not even be legal to use on modern cars as they would not conform to the pedestrian-protection requirements all new cars must conform to.

Nowadays, with manufacturers putting padding(!) in the hood, bumpers, etc., to make it “safer” to hit pedestrians (at your own car’s expense), that’d be a dangerous proposition.

Having a “flying woman” in front would probably impale some idiot who’d walk in front of your car, face planted in a cellphone, and you’d be on the hook for driving such a dangerous “assault-car”.

I just opened my newly arrived C8F. It is very nice. I have the cell on charge and in an hour will be out for a walk to try it out. I’ve switched it to the mode 3 group for now. Probably leave it there unless it gets modded. The e-switch sold me.

I can’t wait to get one of these

Look forward to hearing your opinion after playing with it some…

I notice in Amazon, there’s the (older?) Sofirn C8F with triple XP-G3 and it only costs $16.87 (includes an 18650), fewer mode groups

and there’s also the Sofirn C8F with triple XP-L (the one mentioned in this message thread), but it has no price indicated since it’s out of stock:

Though Amazon does not ship to my country…

I can’t seem to find the cheaper Sofirn C8F with 3x XP-G3 with 18650 battery in the AliExpress store, if it’s priced similarly or close ($16.87), I think that’s a nice price.

The Sofirn C8F with 3x XP-L is listed at $34.79 in AliExpress: Page Not Found - Aliexpress.com Any discount for this item in AE?

Sweet ordered the push button C8F, thanks! :+1:

Impressions from an hour and a half hike through the woods; two track and single track dirt. No moon tonight and 3/4 overcast so not much starlight either. I played with the level switching quite a bit for the first few minutes. For my hand I find the side button should be further forward to be used with my thumb. However, the button is well placed for using the pointer finger, light held with the switch facing down.

Level 2 (~80 lumens) was used for most of the walk. Just enough light to keep from tripping over roots and so on. I used level three (600+) lumens on a couple of winding stretches of single track. I sort of wish that level was a little lower, maybe 350 lumens or so.

It did not take too long to get used to the UI. Like anything new it takes a little getting used to. All in all it is a good UI. I consider it to be among one of my favorites. The biggest thing I miss is being able to “back down” the modes like Bistro or ramping Narsil.

I have to admit that I still prefer the ramping operation of Narsil over everything else. However, there is a lot to be said for using other UI. Use of different UI should help keep one’s mind nimble.

I’d like to thank Sofrin for the discount code I used on the Amazon purchase. That made it an extra sweet purchase. Even without the discount this is a fine light!

I too find that using it switch down and with the “trigger finger” makes it more intuitive. And yes, the output level does take a pretty big jump going to the mosfet, we’re spoiled to ToyKeeper mapping all that out for us and also to her reversing UI.

Yes, TK firmware is a (great) spoiler.

I meant to state that I also liked the beam. For my purpose this light has a wide enough spread. Not as even a spread as my X6 with a triple Ledil optic, but not a pencil beam which is almost useless for naviagting through the trees, up and down slopes. The tint is also an excellent choice, a good compromise I think.

The XP-G3 version had the problem that the leds were likely to fail Review and disassembly: Sofirn C8F

Still worth a buy, just for the host + reflector.
Put some 219C in it and you have a very very nice flashlight

Yep, and a 32mm Noctigon fits right in, reflector lines up well. How can you go wrong?

Nice Mr. Vampire, glad you like the light!

Thanks on he 32mm Noctigon info.
HMM, guess the Tpad 32mm XM too.

I gotta order another C8F.

That old one doesn’t have a side switch though. Lots of other C8’s with no side switches to choose from too. No others a triple reflector though (that I know of) so that would still be a plus for a modder I guess. …. I sure like side switches tho

I would rather have both tail cap and e-switch, so I could use both to change modes, I still have quite a few LD-2 drivers left to use.

The Convoy C8 battery tube and PB switch works/legos with the C8F.

I know that a Convoy SS bezel doesn’t fit on the C8F, spacing differences.

Bummer…dat be some nice bling…

Great review Dale thank you,
You sold me on another light,
I don’t know if anyone has asked you yet since I didn’t read through all the posts but are you going to flash this light to Narsil or thought about it, is it possible .?
Sort of hooked on that UI lately,
Thanks for the wire info as well, I hadn’t heard of the superworm silicone wire before, took a look at Ebay and that looks to be premium wire for sure.
By the way if making a new set of voltage test leads using this 18ga wire what length would you use for your leads,
I’ve read it before but can’t recall where and really need to make a set, I’m thinking it was something around 12-14”…??
I might not have the correct gauge for test leads either ?
Thanks Dale
