What did you mod today?

OK just checked, mine is white centering ring. And NO GLUE on the tube. Phew. Will try the resistor mod on it tomorrow.
Read a lot about these and saw a couple vids, but I was suprised how short the light was when I opened the box. I like it a lot and think it has potential beyond the resistor mod.

Nice mod. Defiantly love the MT-G2. Sure it’s old, but I still think it’s way better then the xhp50.

Yes the MCPCB is DTP. It wasn’t the first time I removed the bezel and in the led solder I found some air bobbles so it was not perfect.
My stock numbers:
2,2A at battery
897 lumens
74800 cd

After R100 resistor mod I got these numbers:
3,65A at battery
1250 lumens
103000 cd
You can see my google tables with beamshots and compare a lot of other lights. :wink:

(it is how I made my first, and last, working radio back in the seventies, with a simple ferrite rod AM receiver and two-step amplifier . After condensing the circuit on a proper circuit board I never got it to work again).

Great that you got the flashing stuff to work. When I retire in 17 years from now and have all the time in the world just before I die, I will pick up these skills as well. :slight_smile:

Got the TA driver for MF-01 from Lexel last night. WOW!



Worked on the UT02 6500K today.
20AWG wires and bypassed springs. R100 resistor mod and polished the SW cover after it got scratched taking it apart. SW also wasn’t very smooth but it is now.
Impressive light for $30. I liked seeing the Genuine TP5000 chip on the charge board. Nicely made over all too. Killer pencil beam and I am pretty happy with what they call 6500K, no blue IMO. I got 3.78A at the tail on DMM.

Zero back feed to the charge port so I am going to integrate a magnetic port adapter like my M3 Clone.


Mh20 : emitter swap to dedomed sst-40 , or xp-g2 dedomed if i can resistor mod the driver .

Mh20gt : emitter swap to xp-l hi nw and resistor mod if possible .

The EC21 that I got open yesterday, tonight has received a Nichia 219C R9050 sm4070e led. The output did not even really suffer from it, measured at 30 seconds, the output went from 445 lumen to 375 lumen. So just a 15% loss for a dramatic tint and colour rendering improvement. (But the EC21 was never about output anyway, but about usefulness and runtime).

This is my first mod with this exclusive led (just a handful 219C’s in this specific tint area were obtained and sold by clemence) and it is different than I expected. I expected a quite rosy tint on top of the slight yellow-ness that 4000K leds have, instead it is less yellow than my 4000K R9080 E2L mod, and not rosy at all, it looks very neutral white to me.

(it may be this particular led, the sm4070e tint covers a fairly large area , although it is all under the BBL, but this led may just be close to it)

All in all, a super nice neutral tint :slight_smile:


( ^ this pic suggests a load of red but the camera did not pick up the real tint very well. Btw, even the camera sees absolutely no PWM)

Got the New Convoy S9 today.
Just had to take it apart. Didn’t even turn it on before hand.
Aluminum MCPCB so it got an XM Noctigon. And had cheesy wires that melted while desoldering so it got 22AWG silicone from the scrap pile.
I measured 1.9A at the tail, higher than rated.

Here is a pic of the driver. Could it be resistor modded?

That SW cover had a nasty coating on it. Not just the Anno. Stripped the anno in Lye. Tried sanding it with 400 and gave up. Started lightly filing it down to raw metal and continued sanding getting up to 2000 grit. Used Mothers aluminum polish on a paper towel.

Originally the button had a nasty chrunch while pushing and felt bad. Its nice and smooth now.

the 0R050 resistor may be the current limiter, making it smaller increases output
not sure depending on board layout it may be for the charge circuit

Yeah I was thinking that but I do not know enough. It is 0805 size and the pads and easily do 1206. I had not measured it before taking apart so I didn’t want to add another before knowing. I have some 1206 R050 on the way and have 1206 R100 on hand. Will wait for the other R050 to arrive for easier stack.

Didn’t separate the boards either. Will try on the next go and get some pics. I kinda think all charge is below.
