If anyone else is in need of PTFE (Teflon) wire, I get short lengths from McMaster-Carr all the time. They are a great company to buy from - same day shipping and they carry all kinds of stuff for a flashaholic :)
www.mcmaster.com is the website. search 7304K122 for an example of 20ga PTFE Wire.
30 feet for 6 bucks is an awesome deal. If you need PTFE and can snap it up from this thread - do it. Even in large quantity, MIL Spec 20ga PTFE is about 18 cents per foot. And I'm talking 1000 + feet pricing.
PTFE is great - the insulation doesn't melt when soldering it to something like PVC does. It's a pain to strip though. I use a thermal-stripper, which works great, but you CAN strip PTFE with wire-strippers, it just takes patience and a little practice.
TXL is my second favorite. It's made for under-hood automotive use, and survives quite well even in high-heat. It's far easier to work with than PTFE, but of course, doesn't have quite the heat tolerance. It also doesn't come in small guage sizes. I think the minimum is 18ga and the max is 12ga.
I've been ordering electronic components from Mouser for 5 or 6 years now. Always been happy with their selection.. I'm sure my UPS, Fed-Ex, USPS guys think I'm a bit odd as well, so you're in good company :)
