Xiaomi Mijia IR Sensor and Photosensitive Night Light

I bought one of these ‘Xiaomi Mijia IR Sensor and Photosensitive Night Light’ recently from Gearbest and am so impressed I thought I’d share it with you all. They cost around £7/8
These are fairly small night lights which you can put anywhere really, but we found them ideal for the upstairs landing area. They would also be good in cupboards or anywhere that you need a little bit of light.
I’ve got 2 kids so switching the main lights on sometimes wakes them (and blinds me), and I’m of the age now where I tend to need a pee in the night lol! so this comes in very handy for those little trips. I’m going to get a few more for sure.
They switch on very quickly - I only have to put a foot past the bedroom door and it is on. There are 2 brightness levels, I find the lower is plenty enough. As ISO says below in the thread, they do not switch on in the daytime at all so save a lot of energy.
They take 3x aa batteries which I would imagine last for ages, we’ve had ours the best part of a month now and the first set of batteries is still fine. They measure (L x W x H): 8.40 x 8.40 x 3.60 cm and put out 0.7Lm(low) / 3.8Lm(high) in warm white. Fitting wise they have a self adhesive ring on the back which you can either use to permanently stick it down or it comes with a hook type thing which you can stick on instead allowing it to be hung - it is not an actual ‘hook’ though as I’ve seen in some videos.

Here is a little video review< not done by me I might add.

I have been looking at these lights!
Eventually i know ill get some, probably sooner rather than later.

I like these lights. I have bought 5 of them. Use them in hallways, storage room and a country place. The good thing is they don’t turn on if its enough light already, which save the batteries. Also good adhesive tape on the back for easy attach to the wall.

Use Ikea rechargeable AA in them.

Do you know if used NiMh at which voltage per cell the light quit working
I found some products over discharge rechargeable

just saw 3.8 Lumens ehh looking for something a bit more powerful like 10-20 lumens

Looks great. Just ordered 2 from Banggood

I was hoping they would include a magnet in the back.

I got some small super magnets and super-glued them to the back. 4 should do the job easily.

This is a small, well made, soft light (2 intensity). There are similar lights of varying quality but if you are OK with the intensity this is one of the better ones. I have lights like this all over the house. Evening visitors often comment….usually the men. :+1:

I have this night light but it doesn’t work as expected or described here! It only lights up if I wave my hand about 10-15 cm in front of the sensor, anything beyond that doesn’t do anything!

Yes, sounds like it has a fault to me.

Ask someone that have one to open it up to see if you can resistor mod it for higher output?

Edit: Can NiMh cells be over discharged? I always thought they couldn’t.

Even over discharged Li-ion cells can be good.
Just need to check it doesn’t self discharge alot after its charged.

That’s my conclusion after seeing This video.

And reading This article.

You can discharge NiMh to zero, though there is little capacity left below 0.8-1.0v, and it’s not recommended. The vast majority of time the dead cell voltage can be bumped up in a dumb charger, then charge normally. Occasionally you end up with a dead cell that is difficult to recover. This generally happens in a NiMh “pack” with a number of cells. Continuing to use the appliance after one of the cells has gone dead can result in a reverse current through the dead cell creating permanent damage. Higher draw devices are more likely to do this kind of damage.
You might be able to ‘zap’ the dead cell back to life but it generally self-discharges badly and just goes dead again soon. I don’t find packs like that worth the bother to try to fix.
