if i have a 2 lights of the same lux, but one is 2000 lumens, the other 3500 lumens, will the higher lumen light actually put more visible light on a target, at say a 3/4 of a mile, or will it be roughly the same ?
even if they are roughly the same lux?

Ok, from 1.3 miles across the lake, this first shot is with my Canon 5D MkIV with a 70-200mm F/2.8L IS lens, zoomed to 200mm. I am putting here full size (jpeg from the camera) so you can see what I saw… there was a white pick-up behind where my brother was standing, he’s in a dark jacket and you can see him against the white truck, right in the middle of the truck, and this is with the light from 1.3 miles away!
This next shot is why my brother was standing over there, I tore the front cover off a magazine and put it on a stand, another tripod held my Canon G1X. Neal shot the magazine cover with the G1X at ISO1600, f/5.6 and 1/4 of a second, lit by the GT from across the lake!
The full size images are 30MP, sorry but it’s for posterity.
PS: Yes, I know, my brother’s name is Neal. He knows zip about camera’s, amazing he got this. lol
There were no lights at this spot, amazingly enough. They call it a park, there were a couple of picnic tables and the place for about 4 cars to park, no streetlights at all and it was pitch black from across the lake. I had my brother turn on a Sofirn Triple C8 so I could locate him, then I lined up a green laser on this magazine cover, held in a double clamp on the upright post of my tripod. I removed the laser and put the light in it’s place. That’s how I got the centering alignment done.
Obviously, even at 1.3 miles the light is illuminating the white rocky shoreline of the lake and making the pickup visible, even firing up the reflectors on the pickups side markers. Amazing!
That is impressive!
Thanks for the hard work and thanks to your brother.
Later,
Keith

AR, in the mid 40’s and the beam was across 1.3 miles of water, about 7’ off the water at my end and maybe 20’ above the water at my brother’s end. Otherwise we have low humidity and it’s a calm night, no fog. (50% humidity now, I took those shots not long after dark, about 7:00PM.

Teacher, I only changed the emitter to a cooler white one taken out of an ArmyTek Barracuda Pro.
Hi Dale! I’m wondering about using the Luminus SST-90 emitter for the GT. I was thinking along the lines of what a de-domed sst90 emitter would compare to as far as throw next to the xhp-35hi? I’ve also looked at the CFT-90, but not sure how one would modify it. I am guessing that the emitter used in the CFT-90 is not the same as the SST-90? Any thoughts on this? Thanks!!!
The first 2 shipments went out by region instead of the exact order in which we paid, for cost reasons and because there were not enough DHL orders to fill a pallet for anywhere except the USA.
The first shipment of lights (168 total) shipped on Dec 27. This was a pallet going to the USA from the first 576th person on the paid list that did NOT include batteries. Tracking numbers went out on Dec 27 and lights started arriving to customers on Dec 29th.
DHL shipping was very fast and is recommended for all USA buyers in the future.
The second shipment of lights (194 total) shipped January 3rd. This was a pallet going to the USA from the first 740th person on the paid list that DID include batteries. Tracking numbers went out on Jan 3rd. We may see lights arrive on January 5th.
Another 200 GT’s are supposed to ship by the end of the week. No word on where these 200 are going.
The “slowish” shipping is due to the large reflectors being slow to produce. Only about 200 lights are made per week. So we should see 150 to 200 lights ship every week.
Of the first 1000 people on the list that have been able to pay, about 800 have ordered. Hopefully all 800 will get their lights shipped by mid January when the next round of payments should begin for the people who have signed up after 10/23/17.
Initial quality has been fantastic. A handful of people have gotten opaque black switch covers instead of translucent black. Replacement switch covers are being sent on a case by case basis.
The next group (3rd batch) to purchase lights (#1040 and up on the list or who signed up after 10/23/17) will get their emails mid January instead of early January in order to let Neal get caught up with current orders.

Sorry, I need to ask this question. What is the difference between opaque black switch covers vs of translucent black?
Opaque black isn’t transparent, blocks light. Translucent allows the lighted switch to shine through.
Which one does BF GT come with?
I see the image info as such
4,352px × 2,904px (scaled to 872px × 582px)
Looked cold and foggy there, Dale
>>>Searching for a specific flashlight? <<<
The GT comes with black cover that let’s some light through.
Similar to this.

It is “supposed” to be translucent!
4352 × 2904 = 12638 (12.638MP)

Btw, my leds looked brighter and darker, but it was just the cover. Underneath they were equal brightness.
