Sofirn C8F host. 21700 C8F Available

And Dale is right too. Optically is totally different.

Personally, I’d prefer more reliable, proven design to gimmicky e-switch.

I have question to Dale. Which would give a better throw for the new C8F, the higher binned XP-L HD V6 or XP-L2 V5?

They’re both domed emitters, the XP-L2 will have more lumens so will probably push more light downrange just by sheer power alone. The XP-L is easier to de-dome for throw, although the XP-L2 can be sliced and diced for a similar effect if one is careful. I’d go with the 2nd generation for the power edge.

Just recently bought 25 XP-L2 in 5000K tint from Arrow, waiting on some C8F hosts to get here…

The 4 I put in my Dad’s Q8 this morning wound up making 7728 lumens in a nice tint, he hasn’t noticed yet.

You said you modified the first C8F that your brother took by upgrading the LEDs. Just curious if the higher binned XP-L V6 would pack more punch.

Edit: XP-L2 V6 hard to come by these days and I can’t wait for them to hit the shelves again. I’m thinking of getting the XP-L2 V5, too.

The first one came with an aluminum mcpcb and XP-G3’s, the emitters couldn’t take a high discharge cell on that board. So I modified it.

The new C8F comes with XP-L2’s in a nice tint, makes 3000 lumens out of the box with the supplied cell. Hard to go wrong there.

Yes. You changed the emitters, among other things, of course. Certainly. One can’t go wrong with the new version, but as currently advertised, I think the new C8F comes with XP-L.

Anyone try the Sofirn C8F head on Convoy C8 battery tube yet?

Tomorrow when I get home.

Thread pitch is different on the Convoy I have, won’t lego. Might be that mine is old enough to not work, don’t know.

The first C8F I got had XP-G3’s, one of 3 blew when I used a Samsung 30Q… so yeah I had to change emitters.

Ok. I got home with an unwanted detour with my wife to the hosputal but no big problems thankfully. I tried with the latest Convoy parts mixing.
On the top it is a Convoy head with Sofirn C8F tube and Convoy tailcap working fine. On the bottom there is a Convoy grey vezel on the C8F head with Convoy tube and C8F tailcap.

I cant try the C8F head with cpnvoy parts bevause it is an empty host now but I think it will work fine as the other.
The holes in the reflector are 6,5mm diameter for led centering rings. A bit odd but sofirn add centering rings to the host and they are good for XP size emitters.

Got some C8F Hosts in the mail today.
Look good so far. Nothing missing. Happy to see the SW board with wires attached. Kinda worried if they came with the SW board.

Awesome.
So the Convoy SS bezel will work too. :+1:
Would be sweet to have the Convoy C8 (with the classic battery tube and tail cap design, which i strongly prefer) with a side switch triple head plus SS bezel.
You would have to buy 2 hosts though… The Convoy C8 and the Sofirn C8F, and have a host without switch left over… :person_facepalming:

You could build a twisty …

My frend told me that too that horaay now I got a twisty C8

He knows I hate twistys! :person_facepalming:

I suppose you could drill a hole for a switch in the C8F tail cap.

This is how it looks:

The tailcap bottom is 6mm thick so if you drill carefully you can fit a switch in there just need to keep a little ledge to fit the rubber button.

I think I will grind down the lanyard attachment thing and cut 3-4 mm ogg the bottom to make the whole light shorter about 9mm this way. Tha tailcap will be completely flat like an Emisar. maybe I will remove anodizing from tailcap and polish it and add stainless bezel in front

Look here for the SS bezels:

2 pcs for €3.05 !!

I made some more photos of the host. Uploaded it in a photo gallery. I will put it in the OP too.
My host doesn’t came with sofirn or C8F engraving. I don’t know if the others came with engraving or not.
The gallery has more. these are some teasing pics.

Reflector looks really nice and clean. Convoy/Simon should definitely make its own version of C8 triple.
