Spartan16,
I have a Maxtoch 2X Shooter with a yellowish/warmish 5000k dedomed LED in it. It’s not “incandescent” or “Maglite” yellow at all. And it throws a beam 1200m from the factory @ 365k lux.
I can easily light up a building (very nicely) 800m away in pitch dark over the entire distance. I will be going to the worlds only gold rated Dark Sky Reserve just north of me very soon, to see check it’s full potential. Now just imagine what over 3x the lux, and ~2x the lens diameter will achieve. Not to mention over 500+ more lumens.
My point is, I’ve seen and owned both cool and warmer throwers, and has been explained here, the warmer tints show more light on target.
Agreed until relatively recently cooler seemed to be the go for throw, then tech changed, different LED’s come along then moving towards warmer tints become better for on target lighting with the power we can now wring out of them.
Please don’t think the GT will be a garish Maglite type yellow. Bear in mind the warmer tint in the video looks much warmer because it’s beside a cooler tint. Stand alone it will not appear as yellow as you think (I only assume as I’ve not seen one irl, and I don’t have your eyes)
You will love it and if not, as mentioned it will be snapped up in no time by someone else.
Peace.
I’ll try to say something about with my poor English.
I think that this light will be a toy for many of the buyers, who saw the photos and the videos of the prototypes and decided to buy it.They want to play with it looking the beam like a laser beam, because they can not do the same with laser as it is illegal. So,you have to understand them.
Well, I’m a capitalist. People were fully aware of what they got into, and entered into the agreement willingly. Nobody forced their hand. My appreciation will come in the form of a fair and mutually beneficial money transfer when it’s time, because that’s what I agreed to when I put my name on the list.
how is this a reduction?
this is a still shot of that video, so you can more closely compare the 2.
look at all that nasty looking, scattered , white light being wasted off the original.
compare the tree colors between the 2 lights
the cw makes the trees look dead and ghostly, like somebody hit them with a coat of white spray paint, or puked on them maybe
then look at the nw version. looks like real trees
less scattered , wasted light coming off the center ball of fire.
both center hotspots look pretty close to intensity to me….
Not sure where this picture came from, & really don’t care.(wait… I read again. it came from a video…. maybe VOB’s?? Doesn’t matter anyway)
‘To me’ …. it is a perfect example of two very crappy extremes.
Not a complaint at all…. just my observation & preference.
Which has exactly NOTHING to do with “not appreciating” all the hard work Team Giggles put into this project.
IT IS GREATLYAPPRECIATED BY MOSTEVERYONE I THINK….. .
Just because someone has an opinion or preference does NOT negate appreciation……
.
. EDIT: ….. And yes… I knew it had been changed to 4000K, as well as exactly when it was changed and Why ; because I read & kept up with what was going on.
IF you did not……. that is on you. Whoever you may be.

This is a open groupbuy of a newly designed torch with a few prototypes. If you don’t know it was decided to be 4000k months ago due to availability of led, that’s is your own fault or laziness to follow the progress. If you don’t read thread as often, you can ask about the tint in the thread. BLF GT team work so hard to come out best stock thrower in history and deserved our respect and appreciation. Please stop whining about it as it is explained to you a few times. You can sell it if you don’t like it when you try it. I think it is fair if you don’t return it because it is not Lumintop fault that you don’t like the tint.

I wonder what’s the warranty period of The GT since it has driven the led that hard. I hope it is put shorter than 3 months so that newbies won’t buy it and complain later. Sure that there are flashlights drive led very hard too, but they are with much higher price.
Is the warranty claim considered in price equation for The GT?
I really don’t know much about the warranty except that if it has any type of defect early on, it will get fixed. This is the area The Miller was going to handle, but he’s not here.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the led being driven too hard. It is on a huge copper DTP mcpcb 45mm in diameter in a 4 pound chunk of aluminum. It can handle a lot of heat. The driver is also over built. It runs at 2.5A @ 12v, but can handle more than double that.

Now i have to convince my wife. May tell her three GT are my last purchase of any flashlight, of course this is last resort.
She is drinking her red tea in front of me now. Looks calm and relax. Should i start the negotiations?
I actually think the hot spot in those videos is brighter in the warmer tint.
I personally would prefer a cooler colour for wow factor. I have no need for the sheer range that this has other than to wow people, I’m a big kid I’ll admit.
I still think on its own when you fire it up people will still be way more than impressed with it.

If you don’t read thread as often, you can ask about the tint in the thread.
I understand some people’s hesitancy to ask in the GT thread, some members were being told they were lazy for not looking over the 13,000 posts for answers……. 13,000!!!!!
And they were being told they were out of line for cluttering up an already busy thread.
I don’t understand that rational at all.
It literally added more “clutter” once the members got a reply to say “you are lazy”, then they replied and so on and so on…. whereas a simple answer would have sufficed.
“Clutter” as in not related to the GT. Off topic stuff. Questions are fine.
Ps, there also the “search this thread” button at the top of the page. You can search by keyword, member name or both.

People can have whatever preferences they like re cool/neutral/warm tints, but in real world situations that DEMAND precise visual accuity virtually everyone I’ve encountered prefers warmer. Mountain biking at high speeds in rough terrain is perhaps the clearest/best example I know. Riding fast at night requires continuous and rapid assesment of the terrain. It is empirically obvious that cooler tints (even when brighter) are far less revealing of color contrast. Color contrast is essential for “deciphering” terrain. With cooler tints irregularities in the terrain ahead look rather monolithic- a dark rock looks similar to a dark hole. Thus, top speed with a cooler tint is SIGNIFICANTLY less. Every trail rider that has familiarity with different tints who I’ve discussed this with has agreed with this assessment. This idea is also well understood/accepted in the rock climbing community – many rock climbers still use incandescents. Anyone in doubt should simply try it if they are able- even riding downhill on a rutted bumpy dirt road will suffice. Try a warm tint first, go as fast as you feel safe, then try again with cool. Regardless of one’s preference for tint, the lesser depth perception and contrast of the cooler tint will force you to be more wary. I’ve never met anyone who has actually tried this that has disagreed. Cool may be “brighter”, better able to lift the veil of darkness, but when detail is essential…

yep, its matts latest video.
thought id snip a few stills of it, because its hard to tell when the lights are moving fast , like in the video
gives you a chance to really compare the 2 beams
anybody know what the actual kelvin was on that giggles proto he had in the video ?
it really does look horribly white and ghostly in the pics
I think 5000k would be a good sweet spot personally, but my led will be swapped eventually to put out more lumens and less lux. And when I do it will be a 5000k emitter (no clue what emitter yet though)
is this a hard thing to do as I prefer the cooler blue look
actually looks like snow sticking to the trees on the left, cool white led shot here..horrible for color rendering, for me anyways
looks so un natural
Two more great examples of “crappy extremes”! . (No matter what light they are in.)
They both look “unnatural”…..
What you said above about the one on the left.
And the one on the right looks like it has been coated with a thick layer of Orange Jello. …
…..Absolutely nothing natural about that at all.
.
And here again…. this is a general observation. Not to be confused with a complaint.
It remains the same no matter the light host.
I also find it hard to believe, as has been stated in many threads & discussions besides this one; that “most people” prefer the one on the right.
Nor do I think that “most people” who liked a cooler side of WHITE would prefer the one on the left.
I think neither of these “examples” are preferred by “most people” . .
