I agree his order should be cancelled if it’s not processed yet. And he was further defending his position with no regard for others. The biggest harm may have come to those at the tail end of the GB when it’s down to who gets the last of the 1,500 lights.
I respect that this will be dealt with privately in any event.
I knew he was doing something shady, but I never pm’d him because I already have my light. I thought maybe he had registered for several extra lights and was selling at a high markup or something until you posted what he was actually doing.
Yes, running the light with 4 good cells will only make it work at full power for a shorter time, but it will reach its full potential. How many volts it exactly needs to stay in the full regulated output will even vary between examples, mostly due to variation between individual LEDs’ Uf and to a lesser extent on minor differences between losses in any individual circuit. Battery type, condition and state of charge will make more difference in regulated runtime than any of those.
As Texas Ace mentioned, it is possible to run the light with 4 good cells and 4 low performance cells, a practice that can not be officially recommended due to a common tendency to misunderstand, but will work. This will be almost the same as having the carriers fully loaded with good cells and superior compared to making use of four cells only.
I pm’d TexasAce the screenshot of the conversation that was posted earlier in this thread. I was talking to Thomas in the facebook group trying to figure out what was going on when Josh posted exactly what was going on. I’m sorry I didn’t live up to your lofty expectations.
He’s an older man, already has his GT, trying to help people get on the list… at the back of the line. He screwed up for sure, but I do not believe it was malicious.
Yes, it was very rude and completely against the rules to release the link (no matter what he claims, he did NOT have permission to post that anywhere).
Yes, it is causing a lot of extra work for the unpaid team to cancel orders, make new order pages and all the work associated with this.
No, you should not go on a witch hunt. There is only one person that is in the wrong here (well, those that requested and used the link he sent can be argued but a lot of them think there is no problem, so don’t go after them, their orders will be canceled).
Even Thomas does not deserve to be hunted. He may not be on my Christmas card list at this point but what is done is done.
He has already got his GT. So lets just put him behind us and move forward.
It could not be clearer in the PM that the link is not to be shared though and that exactly what is happening here, would happen.
Yet he still claimed he had “permission” to post the information. That is what bothers me more then anything.
I figured the link would be shared at some point but also hoped that it would be an innocent mistake that would be easily corrected without all this work of halting the GB. Where the person would simply say, sorry, my bad, and remove any links.
