Which XPL HI and optic do you think could accomplish this? It’s hard to even find 3 different XP-L HI leds as choices from vendors or manufacturers. I would totally consider this but not even sure it could be sourced easily to mod.
how neat would it be if this light used 3 carefully selected tints to emit a near perfect output?
I like how my tint-mixed quads turned out. I haven’t gotten a triple to look quite right though.
It should be doable with XP-L HI and a frostic optic, but it’d probably be easier with three high-CRI Nichia 219c emitters instead, since they’re less tinted to begin with. Perhaps 4000K, 4500K, and 5000K. Together they should look pretty good, but I haven’t tried it.
I’m not sure if 10511 is frosted enough to make the tint-mixed result look good. It might be necessary to use 10508 or 10509, but that’d make it a lot floodier. 10511 might be okay if we don’t mind having a few different colors of mild artifacts.

Not without some big changes to the hardware and firmware. It’d need a new driver, a new MCPCB, and a bunch of new code. It’d either sacrifice low-mode efficiency (and moon) by being a triple-FET design, or would sacrifice the high modes by being a 3×2×7135 design, or would need a bigger MCU and probably bigger driver to handle 6 channels instead of 3.
On the shiny vs bead blasted, after having made a few lights from scratch and in the beginning going for a polished look, I am now learning to make a final pass that leaves “tooling marks” for some grip. The polished lights feel oily in hand and are a bit tough to hold onto, or can be. Just a thought…
Edit: for clarification… when I was first learning to use the lathe my challenge was to get a smooth near polished cut, running the feed by hand. When the gearing is used to feed at a constant feed rate there are micro lines showing the advancement of the cutting tool (most of the time) Now I am learning to replicate that by making a faster final pass to get those lines, instead of laboriously cutting slow for a smoother finish.

Sounds like one of the major signs of starting to gain mastery — after learning the rules and how to do things right, moving on to learn when and how to break the rules for added effect.

Normally this would never happen because it sounds shrill and dissonant and one would be hard-pressed to find a chord which sounds worse… but it can, on occasion, be useful.
I have always had this thing about polished. Since I was a kid, it was kind of an obsession. Once, when about 10, I got ahold of a piece of 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and wondered what my fingernails would look like if I polished off the fine ridges and such. So on one hand I used the paper and got the fingernails mirror finished, essentially. Then it was embarrassing dealing with the questions about why I “painted” my fingernails! lol Haven’t done that again, but still, I like polishing things for the bling effect. But, after making a few lights with “bling” I discovered it made them difficult to hold. So, compromise was needed.
Finding how to make it look qood while working can sometimes be quite a chore. How many lights do we have with fins on the head, adjacent the reflector, but not so much where the heat is going, below the emitter? Aesthetics can be a bear, function can be ugly, I applaud all the manufacturer’s that figure out so many ways to make so many models…
Has anyone managed to get an update on the progress with this? There is a large and growing base of support now, it would help if we had a regular status report to confirm that we are heading somewhere and not just treading water.

Hi Zulumoose, the organizer of the BLF side for this project The Miller was sick couple weeks ago, the other forum members are trying to keep things up for him, but it is not an easy job to do so. Let’s hope that The Miller is well and come back soon to the forums. It is little worrying to see an active forum member not being online for 3 weeks, not for projects sake but with his wellness.

…. but I’m sure you could do it! Having a variable brightness AND variable tint light would be a lot of fun.
Maybe make this a more expensive option, or have a separate driver and star for modders.

If I can give my input I’d prefer the completely flat battery tube (so no slants) and a non-shiny finish.
