Review and disassembly: Sofirn C8F

The whole C8F thing is a different e-switch beast now, Tracy Wan agreed to send me a unit 4 days ago. Told her about its somewhat steep retail price. She told me it comes bundled with a high discharge cell, yet I can't find any claim in this regard in the selling page advertisement.

This is my published review of the C8T: Sofirn C8T premier review/test - Like!

Cheers ;-)

55$ no way ! I can grab 2 pcs Crelant V6CS with infinite brightness control for that price…

phew
I am glad that I got one for ~20$ :stuck_out_tongue:
a price between 30 and 35$ is what they should aim for.
the high discharge cell is not a reason to boost the price that much.
a 30Q is 5$ for end customers…

I bought the first c8f and immediately the leds quit working I’ve tried working it out with Cissy and Sofirn but they haven’t been easy to work with, I’m waiting on a response from her right now to see if at least they will refund my money but they haven’t acted very professional in my honest opinion. I would tell everyone to proceed with caution if you’re buying from them. I will update later as to the outcome.

Of course, the new C8F price is nuts. If this is because of hand-crafted custom parts I believe this is an error in this market segment. We'll see if they can fix this.

I really hope that isn't the cell bundled with the new C8F.

Cheers ^:)

P.S.: Andybibbville, at the very least ask them to send you a unit of the new triple MCPCB with XP-L leds, that way you can fix it up yourself or with minimal help from some soldering iron equipped friend.

Yes Barkuti I haven’t thought of that, thanks.

Genuine Sofire cell 9900mAh
I was gonna say 10,000mAh but we know that not possible.

In all seriousness, I just can't understand that C8T bundle. The C8T is pretty good, pulling up to just above 6A on a freshly charged Samsung 30Q. It does not bode well for that Sofire unless it is a genuine high discharge cell rewrapped by who knows who. Most ludicrous rewrap I've ever seen, at least if they aim to inspire confidence.

The only other 18650 on their site is this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2-Pieces-High-Quality-2800MAh-18650-Battery-Rechargeable-3-7V-Li-ion-18650-Batteries-for-LED/2933049_32806585536.html

I wish they were to clearly state what OEM cell is under the wrap, but I guess whoever buys that just knows no better.

Cheers ^:)

The picture now shows 3000mah. These were tested to be a great cell. Equal to the 30Q in output.

So they must have upgraded it.

They might rewrap different cells with similar specs depending on supply, I once asked liitokala about the lii-35A, which says it’s a sanyo GA, but the flat top is identical do the samsung 35E. I wrote to them on 2 different email addresses they had listed on their site and each got me unmatching responses, one said 35E and the other GA, neither responded to my followup email

I checked capacity of the Sofirn 3000mAh button top that came with my new version C8F and it came out to 2850mAh.
Only tested once in a new to me charger the ZF C4. The C4 only Nor tests at 500ma so I charged it at 1A, then Nor test at 500ma to save some time.
Never had a 30Q below 3000mAh even at first test. The sofirn batt also gets 92-105mr Kinda high for a new battery??

I didn’t mean equal in capacity, I meant equal in amp output.

Fixed my Sofirn C8F today.

Sofirn was nice enough to send me new DTP MCPCB.

Changed dead XP-G3 on aluminium MCPCB with XP-L HI V3 3C on copper DTP MCPCB.
First time I reflowed more than 1 LED on 1 board. :innocent:

I don’t have anything good enough to heat mcpcb this size to right temperature, so I had to use electric stove and laser thermometer to get it right. :person_facepalming:

This is just flux marks, I cleaned them later but forgot to take a picture.

Dust is on outside of glass, didn’t see it until now…

I don’t have good enough camera to do beamshots :frowning:

What’s the inside diameter of the body? Do 21700 or 20700 fit?

The vast majority of the time that a flashlight says it will accept an 18650, it will not fit a 20700 or 21700.

No they don’t. It’s around 19mm

Bad luck…
The body of a Convoy BD04 is wide enough to hold a 20700 and perhaps a 21700.
But…. because the battery goes in a cradle it doesn’t fit

Such is life. Lighten up!

Hey guys, Sofirn is working on both a new light in the style of the L6/S70s as well as a new UI.

If you have suggestions on the UI or want to voice your opinion on what is currently suggested, check out this thread.

I just received my sofrin c8.f I have two other sofrin torches ,I have the SP32A the SP33A and now the new 8f .I have been to lazy to check the specs on my old fashioned light box ,but ehat I am impressed about these these budget light is the quality of maching qnd hig quality of anodizing and the extra steps done ,such as soldering the + and-s battery inputs dare I say the quality is on par of convoy and astrolux? I will do my best to do a review ,my .main block for me is using a host site to post pictures
