The NEW Sofirn C8F Triple XP-L W2 w/side e-switch

I've said this before somewhere… how about setting an inductor in series with the emitters? This can reduce emitter current to some extent, while at the same time filters and increases efficiency for PWM modes.

Cheers

Just ran across this. Very nice review Dale!! Just ordered one…. your review sold me….
Picked up one of their pen lights too.

Teacher, this Sofirn C8 is what Convoy shouldv’e done years ago, after all the triples I’ve built using the Ledil CUTE-3 optics this reflectored version really rocks! The side switch really steps it up as well, you DO know they’re offering hosts for like $14, right?

I was impressed with your review of it Dale… that is what sold me on it. You seemed very impressed with it.

Nope… I had no idea about the hosts. :person_facepalming: I did not see any on Amazon. Did I just miss them or are they offered elsewhere??

The hosts are only on Sofirns store on Aliexpress.

The host is here.

Thank you Jason, I appreciate that info. :+1:

Here is a thread about the host only: Sofirn C8F host. 21700 C8F Available

Thank you Mike C!! I appreciate that info & link. :+1:

My C8F arrived today from Amazon. This is certainly an impressive light too. As was stressed in the review…. Sofirn did this right!!

Thanks again for the review Dale!!

Oh yeah…. hosts ordered too, be a while before they arrive though.

I built up a host with 3 different colored XP-L’s, I think 1A, 3D, and 5C, and the output is fantastic! About 3800 lumens from a FET driver with TK’s ramping firmware and ramping UI. Not the simplest of builds, what with the side switch and it’s wires to get in the way, probably the MCPCB screwed to the reflector and then the reflector screwed into the head make an impact on the ease of build as well, but all in all it’s worth the effort, the supplied e-switch is on a pcb with lights already installed so if a lighted switch is one’s thing then that too should be pretty easy.

Is there a discount code for Amazon UK?

Wow… that sounds pretty neat. I’m looking forward to getting my hosts, giving it a go, and see what happens…

Don’t know. Have you tried any of the listed codes to see if any of them work??

I did try and they didn’t work, I was hoping Tracy Wan might come back with something

/\\\ … :+1: …

I really want to buy this light but those lines between the three reflectors look very ugly to me

You mean because they’re kinda “rough” looking?

I wouldn’t let that bother ya… you shouldn’t be lookin in there anyhow :stuck_out_tongue:

You need to just buy it, this light is EPIC!

Amen to that…… :+1:

First time you fire it up you’ll forget “those lines” completely & never give them a second thought.

Why didn’t they use XP-L2 in this light as with the C8A?
I hope they will in the future for extra output.

After the initial fiasco with the first version of this light (without direct thermal path board LoL) they probably decided to play it safe with these higher Vf XP-L emitters, which have a nice tint btw.

Cheers ^:)

Just curious, can you elaborate about the “initial fiasco” without direct thermal path? Sorry I hadn’t read about it. So did the LEDs overheated and burned up without it?
