Emisar D1 / D1S review

Thanks TK. :+1:

Anyone home?? I just thought it was odd that this thread has been inactive for so long….
Has everyone been enjoying their D1s’s?
Am I the only one that received a defective D1s from Neal?
I still have not got a response concerning mine purchased on Nov 4th…. except for the one “please send a video”
I filed a Paypal dispute and escalated it to a claim a couple of weeks ago but still no response from Neal or Paypal.
I dont know enough to trouble shoot but took the head off the light, not really knowing what to look for, and fiddled
with the wires a bit and it seems better than it was but it still is unpredictable and at times seems haunted.
It even came on by itself in the middle of the night when I thought I had switched it off…… but apparently not……
That’s scary! I have since removed the battery…… if it comes on now Im gonna bury it.
Just hoping to hear from Paypal soon. :weary:

Boy Coscar, that’s too bad about yours. Hopefully you’ll get it resolved. I feel for you as I just received a new Thrunite TC20 that has an ugly greenish beam and I’m very disappointed and will be returning it.

As for the D1, I’m more than happy with mine. I have the CW version, as I’m a big CW fan boy, and it is outstanding in every way. It’s one of the best, if not THE best light I’ve ever received. Quality throughout and the most pleasing CW beam I’ve ever seen. At $40.00, it’s a true bargain, at least the example I received is.

I also put a Butler Creek Blizzard flip open scope cover with diffuser film installed on the light and now I have a wonderful area light and with the flick of a thumb, a wonderful thrower. Such a winner and so small and handy.

Again, so sorry yours isn’t a winner like mine and hope things work out for you and also me with the TC20.

Everything is copasetic ………. when I feel deprived I just grab the D4

Hell yes. I enjoy my d1s. Its one of my top mini thrower light… the xhp 35 hi is very intense and kind of like a laser beam… on top of that, its only cost $40.

I had my D1S about a week over Christmas before I travelled abroad for work, the D4 came with me as my general purpose/EDC light.

Hopefully I will get a chance to stretch the D1S legs when I get back home!

I wish there was a high CRI version of the D1, I would order it in an instant!

Waiting for a D1 and a D1S to arrive soon. I have 2 D4’s already.
These are great little lights.

It uses XP-L HI, not XHP35 HI. They do look pretty similar though.

XP-L HI is flat with a particular pattern of dots, with a bump 90 degrees from the lead wires:

XHP35 HI is larger and more splotchy, with a bump 180 degrees from the lead wires:

It’s mostly distinguishable by the crosshair pattern between its four individual dies, which is more easily seen while the emitter is on:

I shine lights through an old projector lens to get a better magnified view of the emitters. It’s a lot easier than trying to look directly at the emitter while it’s on.

Great detailed review. Thank you!

Got my Emisar D1S today in grey and a Nitecore SRT9 and a blue D4 is in transit to me too so the Emisar family is almost complete.

Hey tk, you are right… it is xpl hi… those factory dedome leds look very similar and I got confused. Lol

I don’t know if this has been discussed yet but I would love to see a D1S with 20700 battery tube, which makes sense for this light, and maybe 22mm driver room so we can mod it with XHP35 HI and 1.5A boost driver from KD.

It will be cool if we can mod d1s to xhp35 hi… however, you can purchase acebeam L16 for $60. ( online deal )… i got one back in december. I dont know if coupon still valid… L16 is little bit smaller than d1s, and longer…

Anyone know a holster for D1s?

I am thinking of getting one of these to supplement a floody headlamp. I’d like a holster to hold it on the shoulder strap of my rucksack so I can easily grab it.

A lot of holsters have webbing strips to thread your belt through. If your backpack strap has a webbing strip running along the strap, you can use a connecting clip to attach the holster:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-10Pcs-Molle-Strap-Backpack-Bag-Webbing-Connecting-Lock-Buckle-EDC-Clip-26mm/351607445256

These clips are only relevant if the webbing strips to be connected run parallel to each other. Webbing strips that run at 90° to each other need a different solution where one of the strips has a pop stud / velcro / somesuch, so that you can thread one strip through the other, then secure it with the pop stud. Caveat emptor - not all belt holsters can be threaded that way, some of them have their webbing strips permanently sewn down at both ends.

Thanks Phlogiston, those look really neat. Now, I just need to find a small lightweight holster.

Wanted to say I just received the optional 18350 shorty tube in the green and 2 Windyfire 18350 IMR cells from mtnelectronics. I have to say and as always, their service is outstanding.

My green D1, (which I also received from mtn), has the smooth finish and the shorty 18350 tube has the rougher texture which some here don’t care for. I have to admit, I prefer the smooth finish but the rougher texture of the shorty tube is in the center of the light and adds a little more purchase to the now tiny light. Also, the rougher green 18350 tube matches the smooth green finish pretty darn good.

What I’m trying to say is the D1, (mine is CW which I favor and the D1’s CW beam is the best I’ve ever encountered), is already outstanding and with the addition of the shorty 18350 tube, I just love this thing!

The “bump” offset to the bond wires is an anti-static wire.

Also looking for a decent holster!
