Hope you are well? I’m Tom, a Researcher for The Gadget Show on Channel 5, Europe’s biggest weekly technology review show broadcast in over 100 countries worldwide. I am currently putting together some shoots for a brand new series which will air in Springtime this year. We would really like to do a feature around the The BLF Giga Thrower!
We are going to do a survival special, where all 4 of our Gadget Show presenters will be going into the woods using the best survival tech on the market. This is the perfect platform to feature the BLF Giga Throwerwith its incredible 120mm reflector throw! We understand the flashlight is phenomenally powerful so it will be handled with great care when we feature it on the show.
We have a date in mind for a couple weeks’ time so I wanted to see what the availability of a sample is like and see if you may be able to send some out to us? As soon as possible would be great so we can get used to the tech. The show will air in the UK in early April.
Let me know if this sounds possible and we can go from there. It would be great to speak with yourself directly about this.
Thanks for the offer, I will keep this in mind if lumintop is not able to get him one in time.
Also, everyone else, please do not contact him directly about this, it could get very confusing very quickly.
If you have an alternative option or would like to offer your own light please contact me so I can keep everything straight and coordinate it with lumintop/Neal.
I know it’s an entertainment program but did noone see the episode a few years ago on torches? Its a bit fuzzy in my memory now but I remember the rating system was a bit rediculous.
I’m already predicting that the BLF GT will get a low score because it’s heavy and “the beam of light is too small”.
Edit to add: I didn’t mean to sound like a dick, apologies. Just wanted to flag that the BLF GT is a super specialised light, the issue for me is highlighted as follows: “We are going to do a survival special, where all 4 of our Gadget Show presenters will be going into the woods using the best survival tech on the market”
So, I’m assuming a situation where there’s people using the GT to navigate woodland and a shortge of range because of trees, so no chance to “stretch it’s legs”.
Heh, the BLF GT isn’t really “survival tech”. It could be good for search and rescue purposes, but for a survivalist it’d be way too big and heavy. Would be more practical to have a common 1x18650 light and a solar charger.
He is for real, ChrisC called him and talked to him about all of this since he is in the UK. they don’t really know much about flashlights but the show idea is kind neat sounding. The GT could be used for a type of search and rescue mode. We suggested more practical options for the survivalist.
Any idea whether the show’s producers would be amenable to having a BLF representative as a consultant to the show? And do we have anyone in the UK who could and would do it?
I would even suggest writing some content for them, of course in line with their topic & what they want to do with it in the show, but to make it accurate as well as entertaining.
As ToyKeeper also mentioned, the GT makes ZERO sense for survival gear, but if they are going to put it in the show regardless - let’s at least help them create something like a rescue scenario & also offer a more realistic set of choices for various outdoor scenarios that are both affordable and dependable (and maybe a good rating system?).
(I mention the consultant idea because a once-off suggestion from us might take strange turns in the hands of someone not into flashlights)
Nah, it’s not that sort of show. They would give it to one of the presenters and then go out with it for a 5 min play about, then review it against others (usually) I have never seen any representatives on there, let alone for a torch.
I did already email the guy shortly after he put this on, then emailed chrisc to see if he’s be up for lending his. (I suggested he do some bargaining lol)
I nominate bella-headlight in the UK. He is a respected member who knows his stuff pretty well. He would also do well in a TV show production setting I feel.
He is a man of the sea & would be helpful in creating a rescue/survival scenario!!
