BLF GT official support thread [FAQ updated 11 Jan 2018]

Ah, crap, not that one, apologies. I don’t mean to be so pessimistic about a TV program featuring the GT.

Still can’t find the video I was thinking of, found this Innova VS surefire “test” they did:

Jon Bentley! You’re one of us!

Heh, the BLF GT isn’t really “survival tech”. It could be good for search and rescue purposes, but for a survivalist it’d be way too big and heavy. Would be more practical to have a common 1x18650 light and a solar charger.

lol, yeah this is the same thing we told them.

He is for real, ChrisC called him and talked to him about all of this since he is in the UK. they don’t really know much about flashlights but the show idea is kind neat sounding. The GT could be used for a type of search and rescue mode. We suggested more practical options for the survivalist.

Any idea whether the show’s producers would be amenable to having a BLF representative as a consultant to the show? And do we have anyone in the UK who could and would do it?
I would even suggest writing some content for them, of course in line with their topic & what they want to do with it in the show, but to make it accurate as well as entertaining.
As ToyKeeper also mentioned, the GT makes ZERO sense for survival gear, but if they are going to put it in the show regardless - let’s at least help them create something like a rescue scenario & also offer a more realistic set of choices for various outdoor scenarios that are both affordable and dependable (and maybe a good rating system?).
(I mention the consultant idea because a once-off suggestion from us might take strange turns in the hands of someone not into flashlights)

Nah, it’s not that sort of show. They would give it to one of the presenters and then go out with it for a 5 min play about, then review it against others (usually) I have never seen any representatives on there, let alone for a torch.
I did already email the guy shortly after he put this on, then emailed chrisc to see if he’s be up for lending his. (I suggested he do some bargaining lol)

@borealis

I nominate bella-headlight in the UK. He is a respected member who knows his stuff pretty well. He would also do well in a TV show production setting I feel.

He is a man of the sea & would be helpful in creating a rescue/survival scenario!!

Highly recommended!!!

I vote for a documentation with CRX modding lights.
Show a stock D4 and than his work.
They could do a whole series with different lights!

All they want is to get the light for free then it will be featured in the show for maybe a minute or two. The presenters will probably be doing some sort of escape and evasion thing which they have done before and it will be used in that context, no comparison review. At the end of the series a lot of the stuff they have featured in the show is then raffled off. You can phone a number at the cost of about £1.50 to be in with the chance of winning it all.

i` have a pair of questions

1) line called “last mode [100] - i understand that this is a mode memory, but what [100] is for?

2) 1-6 and 7-12 mode sets have only one difference, in 100% mode, 2 vs 2.5A, am i right? i just don`t wanna test runtimes in 50% for 4 and 10 modes if they are equal -).

1) when your lamp is OFF, with a press and hold you go to the last mode. (what is normally 100% output) But you can, if you want, reverse the mode order in the settings. That is the reason why its named “last mode” and not 100% .
It is not a mode memory, it is a shortcut to full output.

No, the two groups have different maximum values: 2A and 2,5A
So a 30% mode in 2A is lower than 30% in 2.5A. But normally you need a luxmeter to tell the difference.
Within 1-6 modes they are equall. And within 7-12 modes they are equall. Theoretical the difference between these two groups is 25% in amps.

I hope you post your results here

got it, thanx. )
xie-xie.
yep, i will. hope review will be done in next 4-5 days.

GT vs TN42, MK35, UT02 and poor poor C8. a lot of photots, and hope video as well, if my lense will catch it. clash of the titans )

With all of the reports of how hard it is to remove the head would it be of any possible benefit or maybe even a mistake to put some type of penetrating oil on it and leave it there for days or weeks? It is something I have never had any help from using but some people say they have had good results on other things. I don't need to remove the head now and may only want to once a XHP70.2 is available so I am in no hurry and can leave it on there for a while. Maybe there are reasons definitely not to do it?

One other thought that just occurred to me while writing this - would it help to try to take the head apart after running it on turbo for a while to let it heat up?

species8472…. My personal opinion is penetrating oil is not going to help… in addition it ’might’ cause the O-ring to swell. (if it reached it)

As far as heating it up on Turbo…. IDK if it will help, but it couldn’t hurt.

I doubt that using the led to heat the head would help as the ‘light engine’ part screws into the head, causing that to expand would work against you, a heat gun on the head with the ‘light engine’ wrapped in cool wet toweling might help as that would expand the head and not so much the ‘light engine’

Yep… this most likely would help. I’m in total agreement with pommies idea!!

I would try and find a pair of cheap rubber strap wrenches. After loosening the bezel on mine, I hand tightened it so I would be able to remove it by hand later. Nope, it’s too tight again. I had to use the strap wrenches once more. That o-ring against the lens is a real friction freak.

The head was hard to loosen, but it’s no big deal to tighten and loosen again. No tools needed after the first loosening.

I got a 2 pack of rubber strap wrenches at my local Northern Tool store for $5. They are not in Pennsylvania, but you should look at your local hardware stores. Check their bargain bins where the cheap tools are.
