[PART 1] Official BLF GT Group Buy thread. Group buy officially closed! Lights shipping.

If you’re from the US, you don’t have to worry about it. We are allowed up to $800

I’ll try and sum up the registered mail issue with various posts from Texas_Ace from Jan 26th and 27th. This from Texas_Ace so it’s all official information.

Texas_Ace:

It seems Lumintop are having trouble figuring out how to ship the registered mail shipments in a way that will be delivered with minimal customs issues and high reliability combined with reasonable costs. Seems that some areas could cost $80 to ship the light so they are trying to figure out more reasonable options as that kind of cost obviously causes them to loose a fair amount of money on the light.

I think they have a few options they are testing / working out now. Once they settle on one the lights should ship fairly quickly. I will let you know more when I know more.

Neal said he will have them finish shipping to the first 555 before the others once they sort out the registered mail. He hopes they will have that figured out next week, not getting into the details but know that both Neal and lumintop have been hard at work trying to get this sorted out for some time.

Neal also told me that the UK orders are shipping today (which could be Monday before they are actually on their way based on past experience), he thinks they have the customs issues sorted out. (I think this is the DHL orders. JW)

You are comparing lights that weight 250g with a light that weights 2500g. The weight and size is the problem with shipping the GT.

The other issue is customs, they are trying to find the highest likely hood that it will not be charged customs fees all while keeping the price low enough to not be loosing even more money.

This is no small task.

Also the registered mail was something we demanded, not something they wanted to do. They only wanted to offer DHL but many on here wanted an option with a better chance of not having customs fees, so they decided to offer registered mail as an option.

In retrospect I can pretty much say that they regret that decision.

It is not clear at this time how they will be shipped. I get the feeling it will vary depending on the destination. Most of the basic mail shipping methods are limited to 2kg but they can also cost $30-40 per box to ship.

All I know at this time is they are working on the best options.

For the list of those willing to switch to DHL, know that there is NO GUARANTEE that this can or will happen. It is so late in the game I am not sure what is still possible to change at this point. I will pass on the list to Neal and see what happens.

Do no be surprised if it is too late to make a change like this.

The cost for shipping varies by destination, I think most destinations average out to around ~$40 from what I could gather, which is about what they budgeted for the shipping costs for the GT based on other information I have put together.

The issue is that some of the smaller countries are costing upwards of $85 and needless to say that is not exactly great for lumintop.

You can’t really blame them too much for missing this either, they have never shipping orders this big before so it is all new for them. Plus looking up the prices for every possible country is not practical from someone that has personally shipped well over 25k orders over the years.

(From Jan 29th)

Waiting to hear back from Neal on if it is too late for people to change the shipping method. Now that the weekend is over hopefully we will hear from him soon.

I added a link to Post #1 to my previous post.

Note that I might move this link down to my little update section later on.

Lately there just hasn’t been much news to report.

You rock Jason. Thanks man

/\\…… :+1:

Thanks for the synopsis Jason.

does anyone know when the next invoicing for payments will be ready ?

I have had the cash sitting idle in paypal for about a month….
(funds just sitting in paypal is not ideal)
so I would rather pay up now if possible?
and I don’t mind waiting for the “most awesome flashlight ever designed” to ship

Thanks for list Sonofspectrum

Also you maybe need to pay Tax and/or Fee. Please refer to your local DHL
I make table, so you/we can update the list

From Jan 26th.

This would be late February.

On the plus side, it gives Lumintop a little extra time to get more reflectors, build up a larger batch of lights to ship and reduce the time between paying and it being shipped.

Every now and then I hear about this, and it’s been confusing me for a while.

Economy wise, isn’t it even less ideal to have spent the money on something that may arrive in a few months than have the funds sitting idle on a PP account? Not that even that would be ideal at all.

However, why would someone transfer money to PP just waiting for something to be available for purchase? Don’t you have any Visa or MC debit or credit cards? PP takes these. It’s really convenient to just spend the amount through one of these when you buy something instead of making a transfer to PP beforehand. It’s never really necessary to give PP cash if you’re just looking to buy something. Just wondering.

Finally got around to ordering mine, with batteries and donation for a few beers.

Keisari,

I am a seller on Ebay
and I do not “link” my credit cards to paypal
I only transfer money out of Paypal for items I sell directly to my bank
I do not like leaving funds in the PP account,
the only way I can add funds to paypal is when I sell something

Hi,
if it’s really an issue for lumintop i’m fine to have both mine shipped by DHL.

so that would be 14,96$, 9$, 23.96$

(14,96 to mach my first paypal payment)

Anyway, not in a hurry, it’ll be there when it’s there ;-).

Thanks again for the team for all their efforts.

Hopefully we will have some news from Neal later today… It’s half past 5pm in China right now

Received another text from FedEx on Saturday, saying my package would be delivered on 02.02.2018. Got around to checking it today and it was sent back to the sender again, once more without leaving HK.
I am still waiting for a specific explanation from FedEx.

Can i change my Declared Value in the table to less suspicious value, like 36.77$
Thank

Are you sure you’ve not pissed someone off at FedEx and they are getting back at you?

Hello, I do not understand how certified mail is more expensive than DHL, buy several times to lumintop from your page on Aliexpress, mails are always more expensive by mail as DHL, FEDEX, TNT, for example SD75 is sent only by some of these and Its shipping value is higher than 40 dollars, at least in my particular case it is like that, and it can be verified on the Ali page. The main reason why I choose to send registered mail is because, once I bought with DHL and I never received the package, I was detained in the customs of the capital of my country more than 1800 km from my house, I could only personally withdraw, this is the way in which DHL works here, to all other international shipments pay a customs tariff of 50% + 7 dollars of the local mail service, said this seems quite irresponsible as things are handled, not know how it will affect the shipping system before offering a product ………, I think it is more an excuse on the part of someone who does not specify, greetings!

Because most lights are only a few hundred grams, the GT is a few thousand.

“Normal” mail systems are great at handling small packages but suck at handling large ones. So for larger packages it is almost always cheaper and easier to go with a company like UPS, fedex or DHL. The only question is what that cross-over point is. I generally find in the US it is around 3-4lb.

Also they can’t ship the GT in one package with registered mail, so that means they have to pay for shipping twice.

Also, for those not aware the size of the box can be more important then the weight in some cases when it comes to the cost to ship it.

Get your conclusions, I have no complaint regarding the time of sending this is how it is, but the issue of sending certified emails … seems like an excuse, I’m sorry to say it and please do not take this as a attack, greetings!
