What did you mod today?

My C8 came from Gearbest with the old 3/5 mode firmware.

I saw that Simon is selling drivers with Biscotti. — shrug — I made a choice.

I’m pretty happy with the C8 with A6 driver. Don’t see any reason to change it.

Jos, do you have any info on what should be corrected?
I bought one driver with Biscotti from bg last year for an S2+, the UI is much better then the 3/5 mode and still regulated

What should be corrected ? I don’t recall of any problem ?

The first batch of biscotti drivers had something wrong in the firmware (a ‘fuse setting’), making the PWM frequency twice too high, and also the timings of any events in the UI. Getting into program mode was difficult, and maybe the modes were affected too, can’t remember. Annoyingly, because superficially there seems nothing wrong, Simon kept selling those drivers and putting them in his lights. Even the desert tan S2+ that came out half a year later have (sometimes?) drivers with wrong firmware. He may even never corrected the firmware? I don’t know because it can’t be found on Simon’s site and no one ever took notice again. I just know that I really want a stash of biscotti drivers but only if it has the corrected firmware (I can not re-flash drivers).

The ones I bought were easy to use, all of them were 8*7135 if that changes anything.
No problem getting in config mode, nor setting the correct group.
I didn’t see any complain about them, so I would guess that it’s gone now ?

But Simon sells biscotti drivers with less chips too, there may be some left of those with wrong firmware. I can get answers in the form of ‘probably’ and ‘mine seems fine, bought then and then’, but a year ago i bought 12 drivers, all with wrong firmware, and I would really like to be certain if I buy 10+ drivers again.

I totally understand that…
Sorry, I can’t help you more than saying “mine are fine…”

I just looked on Simon’s site, and there is a 7135x3,4,6 or 8 driver with ‘new firmware’.It has the ui map,so i presume it is Biscotti.Convoy .Hope it’s the right one.

It is ‘new firmware’ as in: now biscotti firmware vs formerly the 3/5 mode firmware. But it does not mention the fixed vs non-fixed biscotti (because that would imply that there was a non-fixed biscotti for sale before which does not look good as a seller). I think that Simon decided that the firmware with wrong fuse-settings was good enough, and at that point it is essential not to mention anything wrong.

I bought them from BG (8x 7135) and had to wait several times when they were out of stock.
How do i figure out if i have one with the wrong software fuse?

Got it,sorry.I was going to suggest ordering 1 to see,but there is a minimum order qty of 2!

I don’t think it’s just a simple matter of wrong fuses in the firmware. It think it’s a hardware issue. As a result, TK’s original Biscotti and its derivatives no longer work correctly with the driver. It’s a mess. Even if you order the “new firmware” or red Biscotti drivers straight from Convoy Store, there’s no guarantee the driver will work correctly, unless maybe it’s the clear C8 from old stocks.

I ‘Foybezeled’ my Q8s and added some vinyl to tell them apart.

Goshdogit! That’s really nice work! Beautiful with the colors on em.

Really nice looking! :+1:

Very nice Goshdogit!

Looking sharp!

I see Jos inspired some people by sharing the ‘foybezel’

Also the vinyl touch is wonderful!

Hopefully i’ll be able to foybezel some of my lights soon.

What the origin of the name ‘Foybezel’?
Goshdogits lights look very nice but there is a disadvantage with the flat bezel: you don’t notice when the light is still on after placing it on the head. Well, actually you will notice somewhat later when you smell the smoke …

Foy is a BLF member (who has not logged in for years now) who was famous for his very enjoyable style of posting, and for his love for Solarforce flashlights. He did not like strike bezels and started to flatten them, claiming the proces in general by calling it Foybezeltm

Cool, thanks!

Thanks everyone! I really like the look of the Q8 with the flat bezel.

I sanded one as a test and immediately thought, “Dang, now I gotta do the other two.”

 Very true! My friend, who also owns a Q8, had a similar reaction:

“Very refined, but if you set it face down, you won’t know it’s on until it burns a hole into the center of the earth.”

My other scorchers, a D4 and two Meteors, have flat bezels. Besides, I tailstand my lights. :stuck_out_tongue:
