Emisar D1 / D1S review

I am thinking of getting one of these to supplement a floody headlamp. I’d like a holster to hold it on the shoulder strap of my rucksack so I can easily grab it.

A lot of holsters have webbing strips to thread your belt through. If your backpack strap has a webbing strip running along the strap, you can use a connecting clip to attach the holster:

These clips are only relevant if the webbing strips to be connected run parallel to each other. Webbing strips that run at 90° to each other need a different solution where one of the strips has a pop stud / velcro / somesuch, so that you can thread one strip through the other, then secure it with the pop stud. Caveat emptor - not all belt holsters can be threaded that way, some of them have their webbing strips permanently sewn down at both ends.

Thanks Phlogiston, those look really neat. Now, I just need to find a small lightweight holster.

Wanted to say I just received the optional 18350 shorty tube in the green and 2 Windyfire 18350 IMR cells from mtnelectronics. I have to say and as always, their service is outstanding.

My green D1, (which I also received from mtn), has the smooth finish and the shorty 18350 tube has the rougher texture which some here don’t care for. I have to admit, I prefer the smooth finish but the rougher texture of the shorty tube is in the center of the light and adds a little more purchase to the now tiny light. Also, the rougher green 18350 tube matches the smooth green finish pretty darn good.

What I’m trying to say is the D1, (mine is CW which I favor and the D1’s CW beam is the best I’ve ever encountered), is already outstanding and with the addition of the shorty 18350 tube, I just love this thing!

The “bump” offset to the bond wires is an anti-static wire.

Also looking for a decent holster!

I’m bored with my D1, wonder if I can fit it with 4 20700’s and an XHP-35?

Sure you can. Just not all at the time. Actually you may have to split the batteries into smaller pieces.

Your D1 might have to be bored too, if you want to run a 20700 cell in it.

Building a battery pack for 4 of them would be possible, but it would look pretty silly and wouldn’t use the space efficiently.

Does anyone know why nichia 219c option is available only for D4 but not for the D1 or D1S? Seems the hotter 219C would be more fitting in the D1 and especially D1S with the much larger thermal mass.

Being throwers, the XPL-HI makes a much better job “throwing” the light. Maybe with the Nichia it would enlarge the hotspot, but it would not reach so much in distance probably!
I guess the heat is not a problem on those 2 lights, but the function of “throw” would probably suffer some decrease with that LED. Even if the tint would improve!

Ah I see. Makes sense.

It will burn up with that DD ‘driver’.
With 4 in parallel they will survive better due to internal resistance of the battery and the consequential voltage sag.

Derisive quote marks not necessary, but yes, running a low-Vf emitter direct-drive from a high-amp cell will generally turn the LED into smoke.

Even without that though, the XP-L HI is better for throw purposes… and the reflector is optimized for a flat emitter so the focus would be off a little with a domed emitter.

That’s a serious problem. We know what happens when you get bored.

D1S with shorty tube, I added a spacer, works fine.

My D1 does not agree with you since I put an STT40 in it
Still much cooler than my 219C D4 but it gets hot fast now !
Next step is to put a dedomed XP-L in the D1S to get full throw !

De-dome the SST-40 X3, or slice it (much better success rate slicing)

My D1 is bored for the 20700 cell and uses an XP-L2 at over 2000 lumens, my D1s is using a sliced and diced XM-L2 for better throw and it too is just over 2000 lumens. Betting I can make a 26650 tube for it though. (26350?)

The D1S is no longer available in blue or green? I didn’t bought a light since a long time but the video review by Advanced knife bro got me intrigued.

The D1S has only been offered in black or grey so far. Has anybody noticed voltage readout inaccuracy? Mine consistently reads .2v lower than actual voltage.
