Emisar D1 / D1S review

Sure you can. Just not all at the time. Actually you may have to split the batteries into smaller pieces.

Your D1 might have to be bored too, if you want to run a 20700 cell in it.

Building a battery pack for 4 of them would be possible, but it would look pretty silly and wouldn’t use the space efficiently.

Does anyone know why nichia 219c option is available only for D4 but not for the D1 or D1S? Seems the hotter 219C would be more fitting in the D1 and especially D1S with the much larger thermal mass.

Being throwers, the XPL-HI makes a much better job “throwing” the light. Maybe with the Nichia it would enlarge the hotspot, but it would not reach so much in distance probably!
I guess the heat is not a problem on those 2 lights, but the function of “throw” would probably suffer some decrease with that LED. Even if the tint would improve!

Ah I see. Makes sense.

It will burn up with that DD ‘driver’.
With 4 in parallel they will survive better due to internal resistance of the battery and the consequential voltage sag.

Derisive quote marks not necessary, but yes, running a low-Vf emitter direct-drive from a high-amp cell will generally turn the LED into smoke.

Even without that though, the XP-L HI is better for throw purposes… and the reflector is optimized for a flat emitter so the focus would be off a little with a domed emitter.

That’s a serious problem. We know what happens when you get bored.

D1S with shorty tube, I added a spacer, works fine.

My D1 does not agree with you since I put an STT40 in it
Still much cooler than my 219C D4 but it gets hot fast now !
Next step is to put a dedomed XP-L in the D1S to get full throw !

De-dome the SST-40 X3, or slice it (much better success rate slicing)

My D1 is bored for the 20700 cell and uses an XP-L2 at over 2000 lumens, my D1s is using a sliced and diced XM-L2 for better throw and it too is just over 2000 lumens. Betting I can make a 26650 tube for it though. (26350?)

The D1S is no longer available in blue or green? I didn’t bought a light since a long time but the video review by Advanced knife bro got me intrigued.

The D1S has only been offered in black or grey so far. Has anybody noticed voltage readout inaccuracy? Mine consistently reads .2v lower than actual voltage.

My D1s reads spot on, but my D1 & D4 both read .1 volt under.

On the picture the grey version is a little bluish (at-least on my monitor).

Will there be a green version in the future?

You mean sst-40 ?

Looking for user who can write Emisar D1 firmware, simple 3-4 modes, temperature controled

I just got the green version of the D1. I can’t believe how beautiful it is. Makes me want to collect all the colors of the Emisars now.

Green is the color I had wanted for an Emisar but unfortunately I’ve been reading complaints the (new textured) green color coating is not durable and wears off easily. (is it even anodize?) So now I’m not sure I want it, that has delayed my decision to buy an Emisar altogether until I look into that first.

^ My green D1 is smooth. Ordered it mid-January.

I think the grainy finish is only on D4.
