I have not found anything I like better. Nothing even comes close as far as I personally am concerned. :+1:

I was just referring to the ramping on the Q8 saypat as opposed to set levels.
BUT NO… What is MELD?? It sounds interesting.
Hi Teacher. The above link shows Everett’s latest version of his MELD firmware. It may look a bit confusing Everett is our resident genius. When I first saw his firmware in a flashlight, I had to have it. So I had him custom build me an Olight S10 Baton with R,G,B,W, and UV emitters. Yes, that’s 5 emitters in that tiny light. And of course his firmware, the greatest UI of all time in my opinion. Hard to use anything else, but I also love Narsil. You can do a search for his MELD in our Forum or click on his name and search his threads. He has made some amazing videos of some of his flashlight builds. He loves TINY stuff. Hope u enjoy the video, it can be a bit confusing. And NO, I Will never sell my custom S10!
Dude, please just a little research sometime when reacting to a seasoned member's post in such a way. There are some folks here, tterev3 being one of the best, that have made huge contributions to this hobby and forum. Just because they are not currently in the pop culture, does not make their contributions any less important.

Who are you talking to ImA4Wheelr ? Me??

Wow…… thank you saypat!! :+1: I was not familiar with that at all. It does look very unique & interesting.
And 5 emitters in that small light sounds amazing!! I am gonna do some more reading about this for sure.
The video is great to, I throughly enjoyed it. Thank you for the link to it & search suggestions for further reading.
Have a good one & thanks again……
Dude why don’t you relax when someone is giving his or her opinion. Which is what teacher said, when he said as far as he is concerned. After all, the firmware he is speaking about just happens to be the one running this blf project flashlight this whole thread is supposed to be about.
Yeah… ImA4Wheelr’s comments kinda took/take me by surprise?? Maybe he is having a bad day or something.
All I was saying was that in the Q8 I found the ramping to be preferrable to preset levels. That is a personal opinion of course.
Maybe ImA4Wheelr has a problem with that?? From his response it would seem I had insulted his Grandmother or family linage.
I honestly do not know what his comments were about or why. :person_facepalming:
If I had thin skin I might have had to seek a safe space…… but that does not apply.
BUT…. I am thankful saypat mentioned the MELD, I had never heard of it. But is sure looks neat.
@ saypat
saypat…. ImA4Wheelr, (it seems??); has implied / accused me of replying to you in some type of insulting or disrespectful manner concerning the MELD Firmware. (I guess)
From your informative reply I do not think you took it that way at all.
BUT… IF you did. My apologies, all I had was a question about what it was; which you graciously answered with much appreciated info. :+1:
Thank you again!!!
I hadn’t heard of it either and I must agree it is neat. This type of thing is what drew me here to blf to begin with. The free sharing of concepts, and ideas about everything in the flashlight world. The very first thing I saw here was a way to discern counterfeit CREE leds. I probably should have just let that comment go, but having known you a while I knew you obviously were not trying to denigrate anyone’s accomplishment or work here, you just had never been acquainted with it (as I hadn’t). It worked out ok though since we both got educated by saypat’s excellent post. Cheers gentlemen!
Thanks Joey… I appreciate that. Glad you didn’t “let it go” too.
One of my two Q8s is starting to act a bit odd.
I went to turn it on and the light ran through three or four modes, flashing the green switch light.
Pulled the batteries, problem went away.
Later I noticed the green switch light had gone off, with the light sitting on the table. Odd. It came back when I used the switch to go through several brightness levels.

One of mine from the first group does something similar but works normally after I use it a bit.

Are you using ramping or mode sets?
Mode sets were never fully fleshed out. They were a kind of an add on for those people who prefer it. So it can act a bit flaky sometimes.
Does it seem as if the switch got stuck? In mode sets pressing and holding the switch goes to turbo, strobe then the programming mode. Is that what it did?
happy to present MELD to any unaware of it. Sorry for hijacking the thread.
Q8 + Narsil = amazing!

It is impressive. :+1: … I don’t think you hijacked anything either….
Thanks again saypat…… :+1:

What can I say? Love my Q8.
+1. Love mine too. After a few months of ownership, I’d say it’s my favorite overall flashlight. It’s very bright, has the best UI, tint, and battery life. My hat’s off to all involved with its design.
