List of multimeter (DMM) reviews

Measuring voltage and current is not the same as measuring watt. It can be used, but a real Watt measurement would have been better (And more expensive).
I was not in that batch, I will have to wait for the Kickstarter release.

I pretty much only do DC so VA is fine.

That was the first 10 multimeter reviews, more are coming.
I will try to publish a mix of cheap, mid range and a few expensive meters.

The 121GW Kickstarter is on, but the first batch is already gone.

And I was slightly late (About 100 orders) for first batch, but have ordered one.

That was the first 20 multimeter reviews.

I have updated the list with a type/size column, click on header to on sort it.

Thanks.

For Southwire 16040T, in the “A” column you have a partial compliance mark. Why did it not get a full mark?

Also, would you be able to provide a list of DMMs that you have that are currently awaiting to be reviewed?

It is missing an A range, it only has the 10A range. The A range is very useful when you want to avoid the high burden voltage in the high mA range.
To get the full checkmarks is must have 6 current ranges from 10A and down without holes for both AC and DC.

No, for a couple of reasons:

  1. I do not like announce about work I are planning to do (Plans may change), only about stuff I have done.
  2. It might be a long time (Many months) before I publish a specific review.

With that said I can list a few where I have written the review, but not published it yet:
Keysight 34461A very expensive bench meter. This will probably be some time, I want to add a few feature checkmarks to my schema firsts.
Innova 3320, will probably be published soon.
Brymen BM235, same as the old EEV blog meter
Amprobe AM-570
Some Aneng and cheap DT-XXX meters
More meters with environment
Other.

I have a large pile of meters I have not written reviews for yet.

Thank you!

I added more indexes to the multimeter table, now it is possible to select from a specific price category or a index of all meters with full current measurements (i.e. from uA to A in AC and DC with no missing ranges).

I am open for other index criteria (It is fairly easy to implements).

Remember it is possible to sort the index on any column.

HKJ, I often see in your DMM reviews the comment: “burden voltage is too high”. Please explain what “burden voltage” is, and what the consequences are when it is too high. Thanks.

Burden voltage is how many volts you loose across the meter when measuring current. Some meters can have up to 2V, this means if you have a 6V supply feeding a circuit, the circuit would only get 4 volt when you add the ammeter. This basically makes the measurement useless.
It is always the high mA range that is most problematic, especially on 6000 count meters.
The way around it is to use the A range instead and accept the lower resolution.

10 multimeters more in about two months, now I have 30 multimeters in the list and I have more in queue.

Awesome list! Thanks!

Came across this not too expensive DMM with Bluetooth connectivity:
OWON B35T

Gearbest seems to be out of stock at the moment, but you can find them on AliExpress as well.

Looking through some youtube videos, the mobile phone app seems nicer and more useful than my Southwire one.

HKJ, I know you have plenty of DMMs waiting to be reviewed already, but if you ever need one more….

I need a clamp meter for measuring tailcap current. Is the UNI-T UT210D or the Mustool X1 better?

Which other brands are recommended for cheap but good clamp meters?

A very common meter for this is the UT210E

Would you like to review the odd Aneng AN888s Bench DMM+BlueTooth speaker +Alaram Clock? It is on CNY sale at Bangood for $62.

I have looked at it a couple of times and could not really decide if I wanted to review it.

I understand. A comprehensive DMM review is a huge amount of work.

The hand held AN870 has very similar measurement specifications at 1/3 the price.
