What did you mod today?

Wow that will be a beast of a light ZozzV6. Are you going to keep the domes on the SST40s?

Reminds me of my spark sp2 mod which has four similarly sized reflectors and is 2s2p.

Yes and I will use OP reflectors to make the transition smooth as possibble from hot spot to spill.

BLF A6 driver into Convoy S2+ (XM-L2 U2 1B 7135 x 6)

The mod took me about 20 minutes. The driver is soldered into the pill which took a little extra time. This is not for beginners. I can see a novice making a cold joint or a hot mess.

Total cost for the driver and the S2+ was $11.36. Was it worth it? Maybe. The S2+ was too bright on low. The mod fixed that. It is also noticeably brighter on turbo thanks to the FET. I have a pretty good flashlight for $11 and change.

On the other hand, I paid $17.99 for an A6.

I could swap the emitter to an XP-L with a total cost about the same as an A6. Even after the emitter swap, the A6 is going to be the better of the two.

The A6 looks a little better, feels a little better, and is a little easier to work on.

Copper Flashlight/ Lantern build.

That is a thing of beauty.

Thanks mate, more pictures in the thread :+1:

Since i don’t have an A6 i dont know the difference in quality between them. Just wanted to say that modding gives you the opportunity to make something as you would like to have it.
Modded my silver S2+ which came with the V2-1A, which was nice (nice beam for a small size fl) but i did not like the tint, also i thought it would be nice to have a pocket rocket, so ordered a XPL2HD 5000K and A6 driver, which is nice but the yellow corona annoyed me, tried an OP reflector, which made it somewhat better, but not enough. so now just ordered an XPL hi 4500K

Also changed the black switch for a silver and a silver screw-on clip, so after all, it is what i expected it to be.

It’s not a bargain anymore though :person_facepalming:

Sure it is. Compared to a SureFire or a Fenix, as long as you don’t include your hourly rate, it still sounds like a bargain to me.

C8 build with XHP50.2 in C8 with LD-B4HV 6A driver. It's bright, ceiling bounce shows 275lux, all my XM-L2/XP-L builds have 110-120lux, so this light should have ~3300-3500lm OTF. But tint/corona is absolutely terrible! Worst tint I've ever seen, and also there is annoying purple cross in center of the beam with smooth reflector, which becomes purple spot at larger distances.

Few build details:

LED is on mosX, and because NTC connection must be with 2 wires, NTC is soldered as in picture, other wire is then soldered directly on free NTC pad.

I soldered power wires in wrong direction, but i was to lazy to correct that, it works fine this way:)

^ my best XHP50.2 build is with a KDIY F8 host and a 5700K 90 CRI XHP50.2, so a heavy OP reflector and a thick phosfor layer over the led. The beam does show tint shift but it is not so obvious that it is annoying, even not for a flashaholic.

The beam of the XHP70.2 (80CRI 5000K) in my Convoy L6 with smooth reflector looks very good btw, you can tell that it is a new generation Cree led if you look for it but the beam is fine anyway.

(but if you have an OCD for both tint, CRI and beam, Cree is not for you  )

I have mixed different xp-ls and xpl2s under cute-3 and they always look pretty.
So I would say “cree with reflector is not for you”.

Well, if you’re after high CRI… don’t buy Cree IMHO

Yep, even on an S2, the 4C LED throws a yellow hotspot with blue spill, classic fried-egg beam.

With a TIR, it’s a thing of beauty. Wonderful warm sunlight…

In general Convoy S7 was my most used light since I built it almost 4y ago. It had XM-L2 U2 1D paired with nanjg 105c twin group with 12x AMC7135s and HE2. Today it got upgraded with blf 17dd+1 driver, AWG22 wires as well as bypasses with same wires, XP-L2 V6 3D, AR lens, brand new switch and VTC6 battery. I saw it pulling 8A and its bright for sure although tint is not up to my liking but probably I will leave it as is since I like it better than SST-40 which I also tried in it  .

What I found interesting is that old bypass broke even though I use blob technique. Probably because everything is very tightly spaced inside tube.

Friend didn’t liked cold bear, he is not used to it :frowning:

I don’t care much for cold bear either, they’re too grumpy when they’re cold and won’t stay in the mug. :stuck_out_tongue:

I changed up this week. Got Newcastle Brown ale instead of my usual Warsteiner Dunkel.

Right out of the freezer…

Newkie Brown used to be my favorite beer when I lived in England for a year in the eighties. Nowadays I can buy it even here in Holland, in fact I believe it is even brewn here.

Have you been drinking something guys?

Yeah, only light beer, haha.
