I’ve been lurking for a bit here and finally got around to registering.
I’m a long time flashaholic who also collects and restores antique lanterns and does some photography so I guess I’m just obsessed with light in general.
I would say I’m somewhat well known at the Candlepower Forums for my “Real World Reviews” (see below) and if folks want to see them then I might start posting them here as well.
Finding this site introduced me to the BLF Q8, so I bought one and WOW!

What are the “Real World Reviews”At this point many fellow “flashaholics” have developed very sophisticated and detailed methods for measuring nearly every conceivable technical aspect of the illumination products on the market. The “Real World Reviews” acknowledge the existence of the detailed technical reviews (and I’ll link to them if I can) but will not re-hash all of that tech data. Instead the focus of the “Real World Reviews” is to take that “laboratory” information out into real world conditions to give the reader an idea of how the numbers translate into actual use.

Hey how are you doing man? And welcome to BLF! Your signature made me grin, haha!
Welcome!
Welcome to BLF!
Yes, I would like to see real world reviews. Do they come with pics and video’s of the real world?

Welcome to BLF.
At least you seem to know where you are setting feet. I never though i would one day own so many flashlights… and a suitcase full of Li-Ion cells. I’m still wondering how it came to be.
Have a pleasant time at this friendly forum, zespectre!

How to move a thread // raccoon's light reviews
Hey zespectre. Although there are many technical guys here I am sure there are many that would like to see Real World Reviews too. And some of your pictures. You can find some nice light painting pictures here from stephenk I think. What part of the Shenadoah Valley are you in? I used to go down 81 to go caving in WV and that valley is one of my favorite places in the world. Very historic too if you are into the Civil War.

It’s a little funny how I was one of the more “technical” guys (10 years ago) and was actually in on things like setting some ANSI standards back when folks were like “it’s just a flashlight…why would you need that crap”
LOL
Now it’s like saying I was the best Studebaker Mechanic when everyone is driving Tesla.

Welcome to BLF zespectre! I’m still trying to resist the BLF Q8. If I didn’t already have a modified SupFire M6, I’d be all over the Q8. Darn me for trying to be practical.
I’d rather use my flashlight around the house than turn on the lights.
Welcome, i like real world reviews
Hey zespectre, welcome to BLF. No matter what era, once a technical guy, always a technical guy. It’s in the blood.
Technical guys are loved by everybody, except bean-counters, but are not always economic or marketing whizz-kids.
Like the über-nerd who “gives you the choice” between selling your ideas to be rebadged or being crushed all together.
Glad you mentioned Studebaker. Eon’s ago a neighbour of my grandmother had one that I used to admire very much.
That was years before the “big three” set their eyes on Europe to destroy another part of the global automobile industry.
You are a flashaholic if you are forced to come out of the closet, to make room for more flashlights.
Welcome! From NoVA area here.
What’s your favorite Shenandoah hike? I’ve already done Old Rag, Cedar Run/White Oak Canyon Loop, Hawksbill, Big Schloss, and Stony Man.
What next?
