Wow! That site is still slow as molasses! That is one reason I don’t go there very often! They must be running the server on dial-up! :person_facepalming:

My two parcels have landed in France two days ago - feb. 17th. They are at the custom’s hub in Roissy and i’m hopping to get them in a week or so… After such a long wait and anticipation, it feels almost strange.

Yep! Painfully slow the vast majority of the time.

This link will take you directly to post #1 of vinh’s GT beamshots……

Next batch?! You wrote that this is the last group!

It’s interesting. The CFT90 has a 3mm2 die, 9mm of surface area and Vinh is pulling 20 amps at “3v”.

The xhp50.2 has about the same size die and pulls 10 amps at “6v”. It will also do around 5,000 lumen. (With the dome sliced off maybe it looses a lot of output?)

With a sliced dome 50.2 I would not expect the lux to get higher than the xhp35-HI. It should get lower. (The xhp35-HI has a 2.35mm2 die and 5.5mm of surface area)

Maybe someone can explain this better?

Also, I wonder who will be the first to try a sliced 50.2 with 5A at “12v”?

Would it even be close to the cft90?

A batch is different from a group. We are talking about sending out a batch of PM’s, personal messages, to people that have all the purchase instructions and codes in it.

Batch 1 = PM for “first 555” people (#1 to #770 and $111) Dec 2nd.
Batch 2 = PM for #771 to #1049 ($157) Dec 9th.
Batch 3 = PM for #1050 to #1761 ($157) probably late Feb.

Make sense?

BTW, your qoute from above is old and outdated. All the latest info is on post #1 of this thread.

It would certainly not. That is the beauty of the CFT90. It can deliver high lumens with an intensity at a level, which has been unknown for emitters with that kind of surface area until now.
Unfortunately that comes at a price, both for emitter and driver.

But Vinh is not pushing the cft90 to its limit. This is what confuses me.

If you have two emitters with the same surface area and same lumen output, how can one produce higher lux than the other?

The cft90 is supposed to have a higher efficacy, but if you under power it with 20 amps (at 3v) and take a sliced xhp50.2 and push it harder to 5 amps (at 12v) then they should produce the same output. Maybe they dont?

Vinh is not pushing his cft90 to 27A or 30A or higher. He’s only doing 20A, yet it’s measuring higher lux than the sliced xhp50.2. (I assume)

If each where pushed to their limits then the cft90 should win, but as is, they should be pretty close.

IDK, there’s probably some important fact I’m missing.

Here is my understanding:

The CFT90 outputs 100% of it’s power towards the front.

The cree LEDs have light leaking out do the sides since the LES (light emitting surface) is raised, especially the .2 (and XPG3) LEDs.

This results in a spectral distribution that has lower intensity at the front but higher towards the sides and other angles.

(note this is relative, so in order for both to output the same lumens, the red line will not go all the way up to the same 100% as the black line)
This means that even though it outputs the same amount of lumens, less of those lumens are output from the top of the die (which is what gives the highest lux, measured at the center of the hotspot)

This is just for the .2 LEDs, however.
The reason the old XHP50 doesn’t do as good is because it is just four XP-G2 dies on the same chip, which results in more heat and less intensity.
The old XP-G2 alone dedomed does get about 200cd/mm&2 like the CFT90 is getting.

OMG it’s arrived! the reflector is perfect too, no customs and a 10 minute long chat with the postman who was ‘wow’…….
Testing tonight! It is a MONSTER!
Thank you everyone involved, I’m so glad you DIDN’T refund me!

I am in the UK on the list for the next payment batch at 1156 did you fill in the custom form and did you get some batterys included as it seems some parcels to the UK have been having problems

Mine has now arrived in the Royal Mail Cardiff sorting office, some 20 miles from me, as of midnight last night :+1:
I have received no communication from customs so there can”t be any VAT or courier handling fees to be paid
It can only be a day or 2 away from me :+1:

Take it easy on that POST button

Yes I filled out the customs form , but there was nothing at all on the box at all to say value, simply a royal mail 48 tracked sticker, it literally looks like someone in the UK sent it! ( I have never had anything from China without customs labels on, weird? I am certainly not complaining  )and no I didn’t have batteries.

Something wrong with the site this morning NikolaS - it’s very slow and jerky, I had real trouble posting, it took several attempts. I even shut the browser down and restarted it, but made no difference.
