*BLF LT1 Lantern Project) (updated Nov,17,2020)

The last time I remember LED Temp being discussed I recall an XPL 3200K to 4000K being the most likely range.

While I am very excited to see this project progress, I understand that it takes time to do things right and that is the way we all want it.

Please put me down for one. Thanks!

for 2. thanks

I’d prefer around 4500K, but anything in the range of 4000K to 5000K would be okay with me, as long as it doesn’t have a sickly tint. High CRI would be nice as well. If you’re going out in nature, you might as well see it as God intended!

Interested in one.

Thanks.

Any chance you’d also consider making a mini version to hang in tents?

Something like single cell (AA or 18650), candle to incandescent temperature range (~2000k), lightweight, 360* diffuser, cheap. Should include some kind of clip or ability to hang it to a tent ceiling loop.

I don’t understand why people want lanterns in the 4000-5000k range. That introduces blue light which is artificial and will make it harder to sleep because it messes with circadian rhythms.

Wait, did I read that correctly? Are you really saying that blue light is artificial?

Artificial as in it doesn’t normally appear at night and messes with our circadian rhythm.

Okay. :+1:

Like DavidEF mentioned the XP-G3 may be a good emitter for this. ( in the 4000K range to get the best balance of tint & output. Also maybe the XP-G3 would not get so hot as an XP-L on 1.05 amps ( three-7135s) after a hour? I never tested that LED yet… The run time would still be not bad on maximum-mode at 1 amp if four 3200mah or higher cells are used maybe.

I did that exact mod to a Roche single 18650 flashlight, put a 2700K warm white XM-L in it, with a 3-7135 Q-Lite, and a frosted diffuser. Its the perfect tent hanging light.

He is correct on that, warmer tints closer to that of a candle or even yellows, ( 2300 ~ 2700K) does help people sleep & be more relaxed at night. What You Should Know About Warm Lighting

Also updated the interest list. I will be working on the modification to the prototype this weekend coming, and will keep all the recent tips in mind in the upgrades, ( including that it will use simple common 16mm stars for easy modification or LED swaps by everyone. ( it will get modified form the single emitter to two, and a single center bolt-post, and a frosted main lens ( to eliminate the internal lens to cut costs.)

As we all know… TheMiller has been MIA now from BLF for over 2 months… and he was a key team member who had the expertise and contact abilities to communicate with the manufacturers on building our special lights, and he did suggest Thorfire as a good candidate, also Lumintop (who builds our GT) may be another possibility for this ultimate lantern. If TheMiller does not return, we will need help form a member who has the ability & time to be that link to manufacturers for us.

Was talking to a builder and he wanted 10 of these light once I showed all the benefits. He have seen my other light but this light fits was he needed. but Sadly I think it takes to long before its in produktion so he have to go elsewhere.

Interested in two.

Interested.

Interested, for sure!

Many of the third-party hosted pictures in the early parts of this thread have been ‘unlinked’ by the hosting provider. Does anyone have current (or a pointer to updated) pictures of the prototype so far?

Interested in three. Please add me to the list.

Right behind you buddy! Can’t believe it’s already been 2 yrs. How times fly.
