LED test / review – Luminus SST-40-W Specialty White N4 BA (+ dedomed) – Here it is, the next gen XM-L2!

Can anyone suggest a good 17mm to 22mm 1s-2s buck drivers to run this LED up to 7-8A, or so?

hey ZozzV6

how did you dedomed SST40?

I’m curious too, I put one with dome in my D1 so I want to try in my D1S too

It was an early led that somebbody told here on blf it was easier to dedome. I putted it in regular 95 octane petrol floating on wires upside down. And the dome falallen off. It leleft a little on the phosphor but I removed it with an Xacto knife under microscope.

1 more question

how long did u leave it in 95 octane petrol ?

Important notice:

I updated the luminance values for all LEDs shown in test chart, including SST-40-W also in dedomed state.

To ensure more realistic values for 'real-life' conditions (flashlight use / secondary optics) I established a new testing method to determine the luminance with a SMO reflector, but same heatsink / test setup. All upcoming and already existing tests will use this method!

Updating of my other tests will be done in the next hours / days.

thanx!

If you create diagrams / comparisons with this data, I would ask you to publish these charts in this topic and also to specify the source of the data used.

Thanks :+1:

Thanks!

Very interesting results at changing Tj. The setup used here is the same as earlier light flux vs. Tj tests.

At low Tj (10 °C and below) the light flux decreases surprisingly instead of rising, like at most other LEDs at these temperatures. I've been able to reproduce this behavior several times. Also the Vf rises significantly higher at low temperatures than stated in the official datasheet.

From this point of view I cannot recommend this LED for applications, which are used at low temperatures, like outdoor lighting or even flashlight. The lower the temperature is so lower the light flux seems. Unfortunately I cannot go lower than -5 °C Tj...

I have a question, a bug might have slipped into raw data.
Dedomed output rises from 0.8A to 1A by 25.4%.

If used in a flashlight in a cold enviroment. Wouldn’t it heat up like every other flashlight. Doesn’t seem to take long for this led to put out some heat. I would think enclosed outdoor lighting would trap heat in as well. Like with florescent light on my porch when it’s cold it comes on dim at first but after a minute or two it brightens up to full power

I cannot see any unusual values, even if the raw data are shown in diagram:

Here’s Δlm/ΔA vs. A chart.

A bit noisy in general, but the dimple at 0.8A really stands out. Though as I look at it now, it does so partially because both 0.6A and 1A are a bit low.

So that’s probably not an actual error but just measurement noise…

Does Luminus mark the cathode or anode with the dot on the corner?

See Datasheet…

thanx SO much for time spent on this

viele, viele danke fur Seine Werk.

that gave me all info, i wanted to know

seems that one of CONs about LowCRI is not actual now

Sorry i know this is an old thread

Does anyone know what the full codes are for the top bins ?

it doesn’t appear in the datasheet anywhere but they state that an N5 & P2 flux bin exist

Tell me, please, how to do dedoming this diode? I soaked it in gasoline, but it does not change. I kept it in a boiling nitro solvent, and in acetone, but the silicone dome does not change. It does not become friable and cannot be removed, as the hairs break off.
