If I had a dollar for every one of those little Swiss Army knives I’ve lost during my lifetime, I’d have at least enough to buy another one. I can’t keep track of those things to save my life.
I too have plans to start knifemaking from old files!
I’ve been collecting files for several years, buying at tag sales, estate sales etc. I only buy the vintage USA made ones. I’ve got probably around 150-175 or so, a lot of really large ones, I want to make some big survival, Jungle types. But I’ve got many medium and small too. I’ve always admired the Anza knives.
.
I’ve already got an HFT belt grinder to monkey around with, (a lot of beginners start with it) plus I have cut off saws, a floor drill press, bench grinders etc etc. that I’ve had for years (I tinker with motorcycles, auto repairs etc.) If I get into it I’m planning to sell almost all my knives to buy a proper belt grinder.
Got a few books, and been following knife makers on Youtube, and I’ve designed some patterns on paper I want to make. I’ve also been studying on making sheaths, both leather and kydex. It’s something I’m planning to do in retirement! But I hope to get started sooner!

On You Tube I’ve always liked this guy, (Gavco Knives) followed his videos around 5-6 years ago:
I also like this lady (Kaila Cumings): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5s0TsAfDlI

So the knife situation isn’t getting better but at least the Danish people are the happiest ones in the world according to several surveys.
Mentioning gangsters I think I’ll have to watch the movie “Pusher” (1996) again to get to know more about the Danish crime scene.
Wow, thanks a lot for the links! :+1:
I also bought a mini belt sander but I’m afraid it’s not good for any serious job. The other thing which still keeps me away is the heat treatment process. I must read/watch more tutorials about it before I’m ready to go.
Received these two beauties today …

Thank you! The UTX85 is pretty but the king of the hill is the HALO V. :sunglasses:
Man, I wish switchblades with a 3" blade were legal in California!

You can’t win all the time!
I could sacrifice this easily for living in California.
I don't live in the best part of California, but I do love it here.
I just noticed something very strange in the OP:
It says that I edited Dale's post two years ago, but I'm not a moderator, and I don't have that capability!
I have been edc this $7 blade for almost one year… major upgrade is coming tomorrow. So please keep in touch with this thread.
Kershaw Knockout 1870OLBK!
Just got a new EDC knife. I have had a few of these, the quality is wonderful and this model is just a bit smaller than my other 2. I purchased my first one in 1995 when I was flown to the Wasp for a root canal while doing fleet workups when I was in the Navy. I cannot speak highly enough about these knives!
