[Review] Astrolux C8 Flashlight - Compact Thrower

Well it should be. If it ain’t then there are some tricks to program it.

I believe it’s the exact same driver that the BLF A6 uses, so if you can reprogram it, you should be able to reprogram the Astrolux. I agree the 45 second step-down is too short for the Astrolux C8. It should be 3 minutes, since the light has much more thermal mass and heat dissipation area, and can take at least 3 minutes on turbo.

Interested in this as well. Having purchased few Convoy S2+, BLF A6, I am interested in a thrower and would like to pick one of these two. Then, adding BLF Q8 and I am done buying flashlights for a while

Sure… until next week.

My Astrolux C8 arrived today. Tried to remove the tail retaining ring to change rubber button but the retaining ring is stuck. It isn’t moving at all, tried with more pressure but then the circlip plier slips and started stripping the holes on the ring. Any idea how to deal with this?

Clockwise to loosen, counterclockwise to tighten.

That’s how I’ve been doing it for all my other lights.

Are you sure about that? I don’t know what other lights you have, but my lights have a mix of standard and reverse threads for the switch retaining ring.

Oops…My bad. It worked. My other lights were counter clock-wise to loosen. So was the retaining ring on the driver section of this C8.

Another thing to mention is that Astrolux/Banggod only lubed the tail section threads of main body. The driver section and glass section were not lubed. It took me a lot of work to remove the driver section and it made a real bad screechy noise when tightening and loosening. Why Banggood why??

I was told by Banggood there is a new discount code for this light. Use the discount code 3a103e for 37% off the regular price.

BTW, this is my new “thrower” I carry when cycling this year, on a lanyard around my neck for easy access. It makes a great combo with the floody BLF A6 I use for my mounted cycling light.

How do you set up memory mode on this C8? I don’t like how mine keeps starting from moonlight after i turn it on again

Turn the light on, then rapidly half-press the switch a bunch of times (10 or 15 should do). It will then do a series of blinks. After the second set of blinks, turn the light off. That will toggle memory mode on or off.

You might have to try it once or twice to get the hang of it. If you turn it off after the first set of blinks, you’ll toggle 4 mode or 7 mode. If you make a mistake, just do the same thing to toggle it back the way you had it.

thanks. i just did it twice, had to half-press more than that actually and i did wait for the 2nd set of blinks but even after switching it off it still doesn’t have memory mode activated. Are there any Astrolux C8’s that function on a different driver perhaps?

I believe you have to switch it off in between the 2nd set of blinks.

So, press 10-15 times, it will then blink-blink, pause, then blink-blink.

You need to switch off in between the second blink-off (before it blinks again).

Thanks! it works now. can’t recommend this budget light more, although i wish there were a holster for this allowing an bezel-down carry.

I carry mine on a long lanyard around my neck. Makes it really quick and easy to use when I need to. Grab, click, blind!

Are the parts of the Convoy C8 and this Astrolux are interchangeble, do they lego?
I am interested in battery-tube, Tailcap, Bezel and perhaps driver-retainer-ring, if they can be exchanged (if needed).
The stainless steal Bezel would look nice on this C8 too, if possible.

I did a quick test on a couple of the parts, and they do appear to lego just fine, at least with the clear aluminum version of the Convoy.

I’m guessing you just want to put the driver of the Astrolux inside the body of a Convoy? Should work, though there may be a cheaper way of doing it by just ordering the driver.

My Astrolux C8 just arrived. On turbo mode it is insaine bright. On the 6-th level has same brightnes as Convoy C8 XPL HI on 100%.I think that on the market this is best thrower you can buy in C8 format. May be only Sofirn has similar model but it has cool tint.

Yes, FET drivers (Astrolux) definitely win out over linear drivers (Convoy), especially on full batteries. This assumes you want full output, which IMO is the only way to use a thrower!

Only a boost driver can do better than a FET driver, but there doesn’t appear to be any budget lithium-ion lights that use boost drivers.
