I tried to pull one off with tweezers and it was stuck, so I just left them there.
I can try something like that but I doubt any difference shows up compared to Nichia R9050/R9080 leds. Even with my eyes I do not see anything special if I do not look for it, these differences are subtle! What is at least clear is that qua tint this led does not have the typical Nichia rosy-ness.
Btw, talking about ultrahigh CRI leds, does anyone know a source for Seoul Semiconductors SunLike 3030 leds? I know that they are on the market because they appear in lighting products, but I do not see bare leds anywhere.
I wish there was a version with only a single die in the center. That would be great for my old 2xAAA Minimag with a Terralux Drop-In. It has a really old, similar looking mid-power LED and a suitable smo reflector.
djozz, do you think a typical OP reflector is forgiving enough to produce a good beam off a single Optisolis LED without any further messing with a lens? The options that I have in mind are aleph LE with either the triple Optisolis board I just gor from Clemence for a med power mule only, or with a single Optisolis board good for both a low power mule and, say, a Haiku.
I do not think that a single led in an OP reflector will produce a good beam. And especially from a flashlight that is made for a good tint, you want the beam to be smooth as well.
I tried to EDC the Optisolis S2+ for a few days and my conclusion is that it is not good for that, and everyday light source needs to be a bit throwier than this. But (apart from truly appreciate art works and nature) it is great to check which of my socks match (all my socks are dark, from blue to brown to several tints of black).
Looking forward for the results. Maukka =)
Although they’re just engineering samples but should give us more than just a ballpark figure.
Jos, thanks for passing through those LED to Maukka.
The footprint as far as I know is pretty standard for 3030 midpower leds. But those are never before used in flashlights so for us it is very uncommon. (in the picture are for example Osram Duris leds).
Hey Jos, you just mentioned this LED in another topic, stating 400 lumen for a quad, so i HAD to go look up this topic, which i hadn’t seen yet.
That’s all pretty amazing!
Low Vf for a purple / UV pump chip too !
Amazing overdrive capabilities !
Who would have thought these could do 100 lumen ?
They’re rated 0.2 Watts, aren’t they? lol
I’ll have a look in the Virence webshop, see what he’s got in stock.
By the way, may be interesting to look for “Laird” thermal pads, to electrically insulate the LED boards from the pill / shelf.
Not cheap, but probably one of the best pads.
Various thicknesses available, from 0.125 to 2 mm.
I bet Clemence knows what the best brand thermal pads are though…
