Just ordered an Maglite XL50 Spectrum Series Green Tint Flashlight. I have questions.

I have read quite a few reviews that say the XL50 is landfill. Parasitic drain, unreliable switch, just stops working after little use. Are these problems true? I can build myself a green tint Convoy S2+ for less than what I spent on the Maglite Spectrum Series green tint flashlight. Anyone with 2 cents worth of comments are welcome. To build or not to build and or cancel backordered item.

77% is much better than 50/50. Hope has sprung forth.

Ummm, “green tint” as in the crappy green tint from some AR-coatings on the front glass, or an actual green LED?

Mags have the Mag warranty (looked, someone above mentioned it, too), everything except alkaleaks taking a dump is covered. So there’s that.

Unfortunately, and I’m just parroting what I heard, and don’t have firsthand experience, but Mags have in general been a coupla generations behind the times (emitters, drivers, etc.). As much as a showpiece as my gunmetal 2D is, it’s rather pitiful in output, even with the LED upgrade (Mag’s own, not Nite-Ize).

Then again, you could throw together an S2+ to your liking, use the reflector or a TIR lens, use the come-with tube or a shorty tube for an 18350, you name it. CW/NW/WW. 1-mode, 5-mode, blinkies, no-blinkies, memory, nomem, you name it. Anything breaks, a few bux and some time replaces it 100%, as there’s nothing proprietary.

So, go crazy…

It is an actual Cree xre2 emitter in the Xl50 spectrum flashlight.
