Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

I did to Joey Adams, until I got to “button”…… :person_facepalming: …

I have a question - how does stepdown act when in ramping: for example what does it do when it’s set to about half output and set to 5 miutes stepdown? what about thermal stepdown? I know it steps down on turbo according to settings, but what happens at lower levels? Thank you!

So the new way to reduce the post count to reduce the srver work load is to delete members accounts? :open_mouth:
I best start behaving. There was an issue with switch lights earlier on that from memory were fixed by reflowing the items on the switch board itself.

At half-output, I don’t think it will step-down at all. If more than that, it will step down to about 50% output. For thermal stepdown, I don’t think it would do anything on lower levels because it won’t get hot enough. Though, I suppose if you calibrate it for thermal step-down at a very low temperature, it might drop down when it doesn’t really have to.

I just use the default 3-minute step-down, which seems about right for fully-charged batteries. When the batteries get to a lower voltage, it never really heats up much at all, since output is a lot less. So, maybe thermal would be a better way to go.

Yep. It’s SB’s world and we’re just living in it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though, SB gives everyone a lot of rope. It’s very few people that are so disruptive and disrespectful that they actually hang themselves. Even then they sometimes are allowed to stick around. So if SB actually has to kick somebody out, you know they messed up big time.

That was just a temporary fix that eventually failed. There’s a problem with the switch pcb and the through holes (vias). The only sure way to fix it is to swap to a different switch pcb.

Very true. We are all given the benefit of the doubt here, by a large margin. Most of us respect that, or learn to. Only a few don’t, and then they go bye-bye. It keeps this forum a great place to learn, meet internet friends, kill time, and of course, spend some money.

Yep… that last one you mentioned, “spend some money”; ’can be’ a killer. :person_facepalming:

Just got the Q8 and reading through the threads. Additional cells provide longer run-time?

Yes. The batteries are in parallel so you add up the mah (milliamp hours). It’s the number of hours it can put out 1 milliamp. So one 3,000 mah battery (like Samsung 30Q) can put out one milliamp for 3,000 hours. 2 of those batteries gives you 6,000 hours. 3 gives 9,000 hours and 4 gives 12,000 hours.

@ Joey Adams……. You mentioned before you have two Q8’s… 1 stock & 1 modded by TomE. How much difference can you see in an actual side by side comparison of the two lights???

I am just assuming you have done this… if you haven’t please do if you don’t mind.

Thank you in advance!! :+1:

I know I would have.

/\\\ … Me too!! . :+1:

I'm very curious as well. I assume there wouldn't be much of a difference to the eyes?!?!? Just guessing with that amount of light :D

Folks, got my Q8 today and top battery tube o-ring was caught in the threads when they screwed a light head onto the tube and it ruined the o-ring it is cut now. Contacted Thorfire and they told me to go pack sand, they do not stock or sell those o-rings. Banggood asked me canned question for the picture when I already included pciture of the issue, they simply do not even review. With that what o-ring do I need to buy and from where? Much appreciate the help. The price we pay to buy "budget" from budget sources

Didnt you receive a spare one in the package?

Yes, installed that one but still would like to have two spares not just one. The top is the one that I will be untwisting often to re-charge the batteries, even with Nye 760G it will take some beating quickly. They put two o-rings for a reason. Given that there is no warranty on BLF Q8 not even 30 days warranty, it is not a terrible idea to have more o-rings in the bag. Plus they closed the light with the o-ring right in the thread at the factory. I think it was due to almost no lube on the thread, it was almost dry. I relubed with 760G.

I’ve had no issues with my Q8 but I too would like to know the dimensions of the o-rings. Ya never know……

Thanks fot the O-ring info & link. They have different colors & GID too……
