LuminTop EDC05 AA(14500) Flashlight

That looks fat! :open_mouth: Prefer EDC05!

I would prefer it too when they fix the driver bugs.

This light is as fat as your signature
I prefer slim EDC like L10C or T10

I pre-ordered one of these lights from Banggood in the middle of last month, and it went well past the due date. I tried to order one from Lumintop directly as they state 49 natural white in stock, and I was contacted about 4 days later saying that there is currently a quality control problem and that they didn’t have an estimate for when it would be resolved.

Too bad, it looks like a nice light size. I already bought and received my 14500 batteries from LiionWholesale. I edc a BLF A6 that I found via SickDeals, so thanks for the good work over here.

Yes. I believe that if Lumintop can fix the issues with the EDC05 it would be imo, one of the best AA EDC on the market. The
machine design, the power, the size, and the ability to use protected 14500 batteries makes the EDC05 special. If / when they fix the issues, I will revisit buying more of these lights.

My EDC05 have the same the issue with disconnecting

of the head and twist it back to turn it on (14500 & AA).

So, the flashlight that I can't trust - is dead for me.

I hope, I'll find some solution later. I wanted to send it back,

but I see that it's mass problem, so I can send it back an

infinite number of times, but nothing will change.

Hey, Lumintop, we wait the solution! })

Yeah, I’m with you. I’ll buy one once they fix whatever problems that they have going on.

My EDC05 developed the same issue on almost the exact same day. It’s too bad because the form factor, light modes, and magnetic tail cap make it a fantastic AA/14500 light. I would buy 3 or 4 of these if they were reliable.

Lexel reported in the UT01 / E11 thread that this is really just a switch problem. I may try replacing the switch and seeing if that fixes it.

Talking to one of the Lumintop reps earlier confirms for the EDC05 anyways, that there is a driver issue. I did have one EDC05 suffer a problem with the switch not registering some presses but it made a click sound though. Had to send it back as well.

I just got mine and I’m liking it so far. Didn’t use it enough to encounter any issues, let’s hope I don’t ever do, and hope they sort it out with the driver supplier that seems to be messing up the UT01 and the EDC05

The warm tint on the EDC05 is much better than the yellow one on my UT01, and having an XP-L HI is good for that little extra throw that comes in handy with a small reflector. The battery tube on mine was bored slightly off centered. It doesn’t seem to compromise anything, but it’s not something I’d like to see in a light that is not in the cheaper tier of the AA category. Otherwise, it’s a fine flashlight.

Hi, we regret to keep you guys waiting for long for this torch.
Just got the news that the EDC05 problems have been solved, and it will be available on Amazon soon.

Bought one used off Ebay a week ago. Mine is working just fine so far. Really like the light. I have a UT01 with the switch issue so I was hoping this one didn’t and happily it doesn’t as of right now. Enjoy the NW tint as well. Nice to know the EDC05 will be back in stock now in case this one gives up the ghost. It was a nice addition to my ever growing Lumintop collection.

This sounds promising. Are you a rep for Lumintop and know for sure? Before I decide to buy one, I want to be sure that it will now work all of the time with a 14500 battery without having to break the circuit each time in order to turn it back on. So, are you saying that they will work properly now with a 14500?

Is there a list of fixes and changes? I never use my EDC05 with 14500s, but I’d like to know what other stuff was being fixed

I bought 2 pieces of EDC05 few months ago and both flashlights did not work properly and had problems with switch :frowning:
Good to hear that switch problem was solved, I really like my working UT01

What is the expected availability on Amazon?

BTW, I noticed that the Manker E11 looks almost exactly the same as the Lumintop EDC05. Same specs and look.

I just checked Amazon and they show it will be in stock on June 5th, for $30.99. Too pricey for me at that price, especially without knowing for sure if the driver problems are resolved or not. Buying cheaper elsewhere like GB or BG may get you leftover old stock that would be questionable.

I doubt it would be leftover old stock seeing as everyone was sold out of them. What is in stock now should be the properly working model. I got one. Works just fine.

That’s why I said MAY get you old stock. Glad yours is working well, hopefully with 14500 batteries also. Sounds like you just got it, and if it’s been OOS everywhere, then it’s likely from the new batch that supposedly has the problems solved, if other stores are receiving them before Amazon does. I emailed Lumintop for some clarification regarding the driver issue and am waiting to hear back from from them.

Are there other things to consider?

Regulator IN/OUT differential loading for one thing. depending on the requirements for the LED whatever battery (14500 or AA) comes closest to giving the emitter what it wants, that would be the battery that the regulator would like the best. The lower the In/Out differential voltage, the more efficient power transfer from the battery through the regulator and on to the emitter.

Assume that an AA stores the same amount of the 14500. Wattage being wattage, the 14500, being more than twice the voltage of the AA, will provide a similar amount of power, but at less than half the current of the AA. Less current = less heat = greater efficiency.

I’m not disputing your data. What I am saying is that there are electronics in between the battery and emitter, the electronics are not 100% efficient, and those losses should be factored into battery life calculations.
