EBL 14500s?

Or… we let Lightbringer blow up one of his chargers— that’s easier

Hey, and welcome to BLF e1000! Lots of smart dudes (and a few like me missing fingers/eyes) here to learn from. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the welcome! Does seem like a lot of smart people, I hope to contribute. Hey if you’re still posting then you’ve got at least 1 more test left in ya!

Just got ’em today, will wring them out tonight to see how they fare.

Maybe longer, if I go through some “refresh” cycles.

Wow… they must have been shipped from across the street— that was fast!

Eagerly waiting for your report

Quite likely from the same OEM under the wraps of Soshine 14500 900mAh and Nicjoy 14500 850mAh cells. After all, how many OEMs in the world are producing li-ions in this format and capacity range?

Good for up to ≈2A, 3A at most.

Kudos to the rating chosen by EBL.

Cheers :-)

Yeh, I tried getting the Shoshines, but shipping was obscene (and cumulative). Tried Sofirn, but they ostensibly can’t be shipped to the US. So tried these EBLs.

Look nice in the SP10As I got today, will torture a few tonight, see how they hold up. If well, will probably order another batch while the getting’s good.

Ain’t gonna be using anything more than a coupla amps in any 14500 light anyway, so I’m okay with that.

Which is probably what Sanyo UR14500P is good for as well, but at a much higher price.

I’d buy them if I had more use for 14500 cells. I typically prefer to just run NiMH cells in my single AA lights.

That is the battery I run (but I’d never pay $7 a pop for one— got lucky and stole it off eBay on a slow auction for $2.40 shipped!)

I ALSO did order the Soshine 4 pack (retail) still coming— it was hard to drop $10, but shipping was (somehow) 10 cents, so I did it. But if Barkuti is right (and he always is), then I’m also dropping an order for two sets— before they are gone.

Give us some good news Lightbringer!!!

They’re an Amazon Prime eligible item, and although not the best in the industry, Amazon return policies are pretty good.

Edit: BTW, I also bought the 18650’s and 26650’s for fun. The 26650’s are being used in a 2D maglite conversion and work well.

Dunno dafuq has happened to GearBest but at least for me the shipping rates have somewhat increased, massively and namely for cells which usually kills the deal. By the way.

Cheers ^:)

Here, too. Tried ordering 14500s from GB but shipping killed the deal. Hence the EBLs from Amazon.

Ordered 8 more BT 30Qs from FT, ’cause 1) GB doesn’t list BTs, and 2) shipping is likely to be prohibitive, too.

So rather than ordering the wraps, tops, etc., from FT and the cells from GB, I just ordered the complete BTs directly from FT, with <2bux shipping! And price was comparable to GB.

Wellp, one’s loss is another’s gain… whaddya gonna do.

Pk cell 14500’s are a decent low cost cell, from alixexpess.

very conservatively rated at 750mah.
i have seen several hit around 840@1a

Did a 4-pak in my Ope… talk about cutting it close!

500mA up and down, 4 cells clocked in at:

801mAH, 801mAH, 817mAH, 800mAH.

All arrived at about 3.7V.

KICK ARSE!!! I’m ordering two sets NOW!

You ARE truly the “Battery Dude” Lightbringer :+1:

That seems right. My test was with a Zanflare C4 which is known to overstate charged mAh. I’ve got 2 more testing now. Looks like these might replace the Efest 650 mAh in my 14500 lights.

I’m putting these through a refresh cycle (well, 3 cycles on the Ope), and will do another cap-test after that.

Quick-test (internal resistance) is all over the board, even repeating the test several times without even touching the cells. From 200-and-change down to 130-something, mostly in-between.

Okay, did the second 4-pak on refresh (3 cycles), all clocked in at a smidge over 800mAH.

Sold. I went and ordered another set.

No idea if they’re “high discharge”, but don’t rightly care. For most pocket AA lights I’d be likely to use, that’s not an issue. Not like I’m gonna be DDing a low-Vf emitter trying to set small fires in the house or light barbecue coals or anything.

Ok , now the 18650s.

Nah, I’m hip-deep in 18650s…

Got some more 30Qs before prices start skyrocketing, but got plenty of lower-drain cells to last me a long while.

Problem is that they’re essentially expendable, like buying canned veggies. Sure, they’ll last you for years unused, but they still start going stale and nasty the longer you keep ’em and don’t use ’em up.

So, get ’em while prices/shipping are both pretty reasonable, but don’t go crazy.
