Emisar D1 / D1S review

bring back the smooth green!

I didn’t like it at first, but after a bit of use it becomes a lot smoother. It feels more like stone than metal, and it’s actually quite nice.

+1 love the smooth green on my D4.

Thanks. It will not be an edc light living in my pocket, so I think I will be ok with it also.

Well at least you got a grey one.

After months of deciding I finally wanted to get a D4, but I’m only interested in the green color, and just my luck now it looks like the green is no longer available, it’s not showing as a color option anymore for the D4 anywhere. :rage:

I prefer the look of the smooth black , but I like the feel of the Matt black ,
I’m struggling to see why people call it chalky

I’m with you Nev, even my 84 yr old Mom didn’t find it chalky at all, she liked the feel of it.

It’s described as chalky because it objectively feels chalky. My D1S has the roughest finish by far of any light I own. Whether or not you like a chalky finish is a separate issue.

It’s nice to see the price drop, especially on the D1. With one emitter instead of four, it seems like it should be cheaper to make.

I probly won’t like a chalky finish , I’m glad I havnt got any lights with a chalky finish ,
I’ve got a D1 & a D4 in shiny black & ive got a D1s in Matt black & I like em all ,I especially like the feel of the Matt black grippy D1s.

I hate chalky feeling of D1s.
For this reason i use D1 much more. Need paint this tube

Reading some of the recent posts apparently it’s quite subjective…
Some people find it to be chalky feeling and hate it, others don’t find it chalky and love it.

.

Since there’s no knurling I kind of like the analogy of it feeling like “stone” , something different than the ordinary.

I prefer stoney than chalky lol

If only this pretty cool light had a/some strobe modes (like a bike mode and a defensive 20Hz it would be a home run!

What are the chances of a fw upgrade to this?

I really want one, but…

Oh, and btw, the prévenance of ramp modes nowadays really rocks. It Ismaili always awesome to have a moon mode and a few dedicated brightness levels, but the ramp function really gives us a great choice.

Back on topic, a strobe mode would seal the deal…. any other flashaholics agree or disagree?

I’ve never used a strobe mode on purpose, unless you count annoying my little brother when I was 14 - so I’ll have to disagree with you.
I imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to find a firmware you like that’s compatible with this light though.

I’ve seen traffic cops use strobe at an intersection where they were directing traffic, with the strobing light aimed at the ground it really caught my attention as I approached, delineating the standing officers from the surrounding cars headlights. So I can see some merit to strobe even if it’s not something that would be used often it could be life saving in severe circumstances.

Looks nice now Niko, probably won’t look so nice when it starts getting chipped off, which it will with any real amount of use. Good luck with that!

D1s painted with my car coat (not shinny) and feeling is much better than chalky

stock chalky is very sensitive for scratching
