But look at that huge zooming movement, they used a very shallow (long focal length) lens resulting in tons of light loss when zooming in (so a small hotspot). Not all is bad about that though, the flood will be very wide.

The 30mm zooming travel in particular was something I thought to be an advantage for wide flood, thanks for confirming that!
.
What do you mean by shallow lens? Are you referring to the depth it sits down in the bezel?
In the front view showing the emitter it looks like the lens is not there for that photo.
In this photo it looks normal depth (maybe?):
.
Can’t see much else about the lens in the listing, but I was informed it’s a plastic lens.
Front view: (looks like lens is removed):
There is this photo of the die image where appears to be fully zoomed in, (but probably pretty close to the wall):
Also the price went up today about $1, now $22.84

Interesting design on those Archon’s. Looks a twist zoom that can be operated with one hand.

Thanks, I usually look for those first to include the link, guess I forgot, but it looks like it didn’t do so well.

Yes! It was the pink one that caught my eye and decided to post it here, then I found it in black too.

Sorry about that I was wrong. I thought those flaps sticking out on each side under the head was for twist operation with your thumb, but now with closer inspection I see that isn’t the case. It’s just a normal twisty.

XR7 does not run on Li-ion battery, and XR8 still only 400Lm
While searching on line for those I did find something that was VERY exciting…for a minute (before I found out it’s discontinued :rage: )
The Tasco XR9r
This apparently was a pretty awesome flashlight from about a year ago! With so many great features I have no idea why it was discontinued.
800 Lumen!
Zooming focus
Lighted tail switch!
Magnetic Tail Cap!
Runs on 18650 Li-ion!
Built in USB charging
Hidden USB port under a knurled stainless ring!
USB Powerbank feature!
Stainless steel bezel ring
Round spot beam instead of square!
I guess these were selling for under $30 at Sams Club, but they were also on Amazon a while back (sold out now):
Amazon.com
Amazon reviews were all 5 star, one reviewer commented:
“This light isnt being made anymore. I called Tasco (Bushnell) to ask where I could get another and they said it was a one time deal with that Big Box store. No plans to make them again. I don’t understand that but that’s what they said.”
.
Bummer.
Here’s a youtube video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSusAIf1_1E
After an extensive online search I was only able to find it showing available at one store……
But when I tried to buy it (just to check) it shows; “Our shopping cart is undergoing maintenance.” LOL
http://www.tacticalsuppliesexpress.com/item/13837047/
Price was a little high anyway: $59.97 Sams Club did show it on their auctions site from a while back, they were probably a great deal in the auction.
Now all the zoomies at Sams are all low output and run on Alka-leaks, nothing nearly as nice as the XR9r was.
Yes…$60 is a little high for this.
For $60 I want a great twist Zoom with 200 to 400 KCD for very long throw and decent flood.
Has BLF done anything like this ?
Or is there something already ,not too large like the Cometa should have been …

This is at $23.88 including shipping with a tracking number - looks like an okay deal. Has anyone tried it out?

That does look nice .
Can BLF (OR has this been done)
or someone know a way we can get factory modded versions of something like it with a Turbo Mode …?
And choice of LED for either brightness or throw ?
I would pay $40 for this if it had a Turbo Mode that pushes the LED a bit .
Not a Tech or Modder but woukd be cool to have a light like this with 300KCD…
And some would prefer high lumens over high Candela …
So a C Model ( optimised for High Candela - Throw )
And an L Model ( optimized for Lumens, Color ).

robertkoa, I have only seen this particular light from enogear and I’ve not seen them do any customs specials that I’m aware of. I’m still hoping someone has feedback for the Countryman, I’m going to bump it in my next post.
If Enogear did offer a modded version it probably would be more than $40 since that’s only $4 more than stock one costs.
Check out the Jaxman Z1 they offer different LED choices/tints etc. but they usually don’t drive them too hard. Skylumen offers a modded one but it’s VERY expensive: https://skylumen.com/collections/v54-lights/products/zi-seriesvn-need-spec
You could also start a topic or WTB thread and ask on the forum, there’s quite a few members here that offer services/modded lights.
Mtn electronics sells a modded zoomie but when you select it shows “out of stock” so I’m not sure how long for them to build one, you could email them about it. http://www.mtnelectronics.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=80&product_id=871

Ok so this is a looong thread so I am just going to ask….really good but budget zoomie that uses AAs?
Any suggestions?
My dad bought that super junk “military grade” chinese junk light and loved the zoomie feature, but dropped it just once and its a pile of pieces. So I wanted to get him a better quality one. ANy help is appreciated.
