OPUS BT-C3100-Stock Fan VS. Top Tier Delta fan

I thought so too until I read the OP and found this below.

Stock[ADDA] fan- 5v/0.13a/0.65W

Delta fan- 12V/0.12A/1.44W

Yep…. The 5V fans had a resistor wired in line to knock the 12V power supplied down to 5V.
The 12V ‘replacement fans’ were just wired straight with no resistor.

Thanks. I will have to look at this video below again as he replaced the stock fan with a 5v fan but I missed the part where

the resistor was in the wire when he cut and spliced the connector.

In one of the Opus chargers, I installed a 12vdc fan salvaged from a PC power supply. I drilled several holes at the bottom half of the charger, spliced off a connector from another Opus charger, then installed the connector in place of the stock connector (which is still connected to the stock 12vdc fan but no longer connected to the pcb as shown).

The new fan now sucks through the numerous holes, drawing ambient air through the cells and down the 4 rails and the pcb below, and much quieter now, making the cells just warm enough to trigger the charger’s temp. termination requirement.

The new fan still kicks in automatically as required by the sensors.

And yes, the stock fan is 12vdc, left untouched.

Below shows the original connector I got from my other Opus is connected to the new fan, then connected to the original male terminal, leaving the Original fan and connector untouched. So in effect the bigger fan is still controlled by the charger automatically.

Btw, those long rectangular raised strips, surrounded by my drilled holes, are also open on its side (air can pass through too), just cannot be seen from this photo angle.

Lastly, this mod is just for fun, (and an improvement with regards to noise and cooling), but actually, the stock fan is enough for the cooling needs of this charger.

tatasal, that's a nice little setup you got going there, I like it. I have a lot of spare pc fans so you've given me a good idea thanks.

@ tatasal……

I remember seeing those pictures of your ‘Opus Fan Mod’ somewhere before!! That is one sweet mod too…… :+1:

Nice job!!

Thanks…but l forgot where l posted it so l had to take new photos again haha.

Your welcome. I can’t remember either, but I do remember seeing it somewhere. It was such a cool mod it was unforgettable. :+1: …

I’ve got two of the Delta fans coming in the mail and they should be here in a couple of weeks.

Didn’t see that the Ebay ad was for 2 pieces, but oh well…my stock BT-3400 fan is working fine, so these are just spares.

Chris

Good evening gentlemen,

FLAW in Opus BT-C3100 2.2,at least mine is flawed!

I have discovered that It is NOT 26650 friendly after acquiring 2 X 26650 torches.3 out my 4 26650’s do not make contact on the positive end. After evaluating the problem, this is what I discovered.

1. The positive contact does NOT have a nub[nipple] on it like my other 3 chargers.

2. The positive contact is recessed a bit and not robust like my other chargers.

3. The battery well is not deep enough resulting in the BT/FT to rise above the chargers positive contact resulting in NO contact.

If I manipulate the batteries , sometimes I can get temporary but precarious contact.

I went and bought some Neodymium magnets[HKJ recommended] and they did not help becuase it is a flaw in the contacts design where these bigger 26650 rise above the positive contact.

These batteries do Not work.

1. Xtar 26650 4000mAh-

Look how RAISED the positive contact is and it still does not work because it hovers above the chargers Positive contact because the well is NOT deep enough!

2. Orbtronic 26650 5750mAh-

I have Three of these. I put solder blobs hoping that would help,it did not. The size of the batteries positive end makes NO difference, the positive contact of the charger is flawed!

3.Ijoy 26650 4200mAh

The Vappower 26650 4200mah is the only one that works!

ALSO: The Thrunite 26650 5000mAh w/ Brass BT is iffy. Battery needs to be manipulated in order to make contact.

Photos below:

s I am still waiting for my NEW OPUS from Henry. I have not heard from him since last September. I emailed him a few months ago and again today to let him know about this issue.

Put a Piece of foil between the contact point—- better yet a strip of copper or brass —- but foil does work— fold a piece about 4-5 layers thick about 1/2 ” wide x 1- 2 ” long so you can hold it in place until the battery clamps it in

Hey WolfDog!! How goes it??

It’s been a bit over a year since this thread got started & we had all that fun last summer figuring things out.

Good to see your post. Sorry about the problem & hopefully Henry will also get you that new charger he promised you…. if they ever finish them.

Take care my friend……

Thanks Chops & Teacher!

I tried the aluminum foil before I used the magnets. It did not work.

Here is the deal. It is a pain in the a but usually I can get contact[unstable and precarious] if I manipulate the battery by twisting it and lifting the positive end UP a bit. The key is when I see that it is connected I have to stop. This can 10 to 30 seconds to accomplish.Any small bump or movement and ALL the data from a capacity test is gone! :person_facepalming: If it happens during charging,no big deal as I have a half dozen other chargers I can use instead.

Also to note, I had solder blobs put on before I got the magnets. Since it was not flat anymore that may have hampered the connection. I sold those Two Orbtronic to my soldering technician and hiking buddy Bob.

I ordered Another FT Orbtronic and One BT Orbtronic 26650. If they do not work properly[to be expected] I will try the magnets on those.I wanted Two BT’S but they only had one left,in fact they only had One FT left also!

The Ijoy 26650 4200mAh has the most recessed FT of any 26650 I ever had. When a small solder blob was put on that, basically making the top level w/ the wrapper and can,I got it to work very well, just like the 18650’s ect.

Here is the Ijoy w/ My CATvn V6 NW 5000K awesome torch!

P.S I see that all of my photos are gone from when I started the thread. I use postimage.org. That sucks, that was a lot of hard work and time consuming!

They work now but I think they had a glitch or change in format? I can not remember.

BTW the Delta Fan and Liteon SMPS are still working SUPERBLY!!! No Hiccups! :+1:

I use magnets 6x1 millimeters. The plus and minus the battery. At Ali I bought them 100 pieces for about $ 2. If they are low, buy higher. Maybe 6x2 millimeters.

^

Thanks,Mine are 3mm X 12mm. I think Home depot has your size. I will get them if they do when my new batteries[sold the others] come in next week. First I will see if these 3mm X 12mm work.I would only be able to use 1 because of their size. 2 of your size seems better!

@ Peter J.

Just got some 6mm X 1mm Neodymium magnets on Ebay….3X the money but will get here 3X faster than coming from China! :+1:

Thanks for your help, I am sure they will work after posting your pictures.

Did you try just using 1 magnet?

Are you using 2 to make it even?

,thanks,

I use two. On plus and minus. I bought them 100 pieces. The price was very low - US $ 1.51. The price is really fun. 100 pcs!! The shipping cost was US $ 0.63.

I bought them here:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Cylinder-Rare-Earth-Mass-Neodymium-6mm-x-1mm-Magnet-100-Pcs-Mini-Small-Disc-Magnetic-Materials/32849096796.html

Yes, I saw that. Great deal. I just did not want to wait 2,3 4 weeks for it. I paid $7.64 including shipping for 100 pieces! I only need 10 at the most. I will have them next Wednesday or Thursday.

Judging from my own experience, the only way to keep the OPUS BT-C3100 from overheating and also from heating the batteries, is to stick a big ass fan under it, there is no other option.

Here is mine abomination, works great so far! xD I also put a step down converter, so I can control the fan speed.
