Texas_Ace MT09R Modding thread, 20k+ lumens, 80CRI, can start fires? Yes please.

I already have 2x mt09r and an MT03, The issue is buying 2 more of them when I don’t really “need” them.

Course I suppose I could always buy them now and if I don’t have the money to keep them later I could list them for sale as modded beasts….

I gave my good lux meter away in a trade last week so I don’t have a way to get good numbers at the moment. I ordered a new meter yesterday though.

All the LED’s should give similar throw numbers for a given lumen output, dedoming is what will improve throw. In the GT it improves throw by around ~40+%.

There are at least 2 lights coming that want a dedome. Just not sure when they will get here.

The last reading I took before TA's driver the 70.2 was throwing 600 meters. I have not taken a reading after installing TA DC driver.

I am on my way to the airport now and we should land in Arizona later this evening. I shipped A couple of my personal lights ahead of me and they arrive tomorrow. So unless someone else gets to it first I will take a reading for the 70.2 distance tomorrow night with an already installed TA driver.

Also one of my early videos I light up a house 300 yards away and it looked like daylight.

Look through my YouTube videos and you will see it. It's the video that I am lighting up the pastures my horses are in...

Here Is the video. The 70.2 I'm using in this video is the old stock driver max output 15k lumen. www.youtube.com/embed/78e-eBi488Q

Anybody figure out how to carry this light besides using a sling? Would a custom kydex holster work for this sized light?

I looked at a few “water bottle” pouches on ebay, but haven’t picked one yet. I don;t want a lot of empty space at the top.

They cinch at the top, sort of like a sleeping bag or tent pouch. Most look to be decent nylon with either molle or belt loops.

I will likely grab one this weekend and post pics if it fits. Pretty sure the smoke grenade pouches that the q8 fits in will be way too short for the mt09r.

I got a few more orders in yesterday. The first one is from Krash610. He sent me 2 xhp35 lights.

One of these was just going to get a driver but he decided to try some E4 bin XHP35 HD LED’s, so I have to wait for those to show up.

The other I just got finished with, he wanted the 80cri 4500k LED’s with the TA driver.

Interestingly this light is doing much better then the last one I built with these LED’s and I have no idea why. I even pulled out my old meter to compare but it said the same thing. It is possible the last light I did the lumen test with low batteries.

This light is doing just under 7000 lumens which is very impressive indeed for an 80cri LED. Once again the tint is fantastic. I so love 4500k.

I also got an MT07 in for modding, I was not aware that it was wired in 4S so it was a lot more work then I figured it would be to mod but just waiting on the LED now to finish it up.

I read here 22k Lumen and 80 CRI, I am looking on all the websites I bought parts and LEDs and find only M4 bins in CRI80, but those should not get that many output

Awesome

I think the last one was mine measured at 5700 lumens. Can you check it again with full batteries? I would be willing to pay for another set of emitters if it is really that much lower.

Also tracking says my three MT03 is out for delivery today to your address.

I forgot one of yours was xhp35 and still here.

Well I just checked, rechecked and swapped batteries, battery tubes was even about to switch the drivers when I think I might of figured out what is going on.

The tints on them are very close, seen separately it is hard to tell a difference unless looking for it. But when held side by side (I just used 1 set of cells at first to keep things consistent) you can see that SVK’s light is slightly warmer / rosier. At first I wondered if they somehow sent me the wrong LED’s as it clearly says on the label these are C4 80cri 4500k LED’s.

Then I remembered that SVK’s light used a mixed tint 4000k/4500k setup, which perfectly explains the difference in tint I was seeing.

The C2 bin 4000k LED’s must just be much lower output then the 4500k then the 1 bin lower would suggest. Everything else between the lights is exactly the same. With fresh cells the 4500k is doing just under 7000 lumens every time and the 4000k/4500k is doing just under 6000 lumens every time I measure them on both spheres.

Admittedly that is a pretty extreme difference in output but I even hooked them up to my bench power supply and verified that they are being driven to the max, I could not get more then ~100 extra lumens on either light using the power supply vs the cells like normal.

So it is up to you SVK, I can swap in some 4500k emitters, or you can stick with what you have. If you like rosy tints, that is exactly what yours has now, a nice rosy high cri tint. If you would prefer more output I can swap them, just let me know.

I got a package in a little bit ago, that is most likely your MT03’s.

Okay nvm. I’ll just keep it.Thanks for spending the time to recheck!

Just wondering… how many lumen out put can MT03 do after modding? I have the XHP 70 version.

It is doing basically the same as the MT09, they use the exactly same internal parts so this makes sense.

I should be modding these 3 tomorrow.

If it’s getting 22k with the mods you mentioned then I’m sending it in to you lol!

hoping we can find out the lumen gain on an MT03 after adding the TA driver only. I thought I had read somewhere to was like 3000 lumens on the MT09R? Anybody recall?

Yep, The last MT03 I modded did around there, if you dig back through the thread it should be posted at some point. They have all been between 21k-23k at this point I am pretty sure.

With just the driver the CW LED’s are doing 15-16k and the NW around 16-18k IIRC. Both up around 3-4k lumens from stock.

The results were posted either in this thread or the GB thread.

I think the NW should be doing more than that. My 4000k stock without DC-Fix was getting just 13k lumens which is consistent with your measurements for my light but my stock 5000k measures 32.3% more, which equates to 17+k lumens. Both my friend and I can tell that the 5000k is noticeably brighter than the 4000k. Shouldn’t your driver bump the stock NW emitters to over 20k lumens? Or did I just get lucky and got cream of the crop emitters for the NW.
