I understand that particularly for batteries in series, it is important to keep them balanced, and not split up the set. Since I assume that there will be people who are planning to power the GT with both the short and the long tube from the same original set of batteries – splitting up the original eight cells into two sets and draining both sets of four cells unevenly – I was wondering how important it is to follow that rule when it comes to parallel configurations?

We are talking about two parallel 50Wh batteries, which seems like a fair bit of energy. Would it be inviting disaster not to keep a separate set of four cells handy for the short tube?

Hi Team,

I got a PM about the group buy for my last two lights, but in the PM where it says “here is your link” and “Password” It’s just blank.

The most important thing is that the 4 cells in each carrier match.

Each set of 4 cells should match but unofficially will work as long as the voltage is the same between them. So if all 8 cells are fresh off the charger and you put 4 matching cells in each carrier, this should be fine.

I have been using my GT like this since the start.

That said it is not recommended and is unofficial, just my experience.

Thanks for the reply. Personally, for me the short tube is more of a gimmick for laughs than anything that I plan to use in real-life situations, and for the few times that I expect to use it I’ll probably just grab the cells from my Q8 or one of the Astrolux MF models. But I was worried that someone might potentially cause a dangerous situation by using either both one or two carriers at different times. Seems like it’s not as much of an issue as I thought it might be.

So im on the list at 1491.

Does this mean i dont need to dive into the public sale of the 50 lamps and can hold out for the 4th phase of light shipments?

The public sale is about $300 or so?
Group buy is about $157.
It’s up to you.

With all due respect, I dont think you understood my question, so ill restate it a different way.

Will there be guaranteed supply for people on the group buy list at the level im currently listed ? For reference im #1491.

There’s lots of chatter on this thread and its easy to overlook something. Yes I know there is the first post thats lists updates but im not totally clear on things, hence my reason for asking in the thread for clarity.

An official reply to my query is appreciated.

Sorry for the late response. I stopped receiving notifications for this thread yesterday and just woke up and checked to see 86 new messages. Anyway…

Contrary to Teachers response, I would have to say No, there is not a guaranteed supply for people on the group buy list at the level your currently listed (fourth batch of PM’s, #1426 and higher)

Of the 710 people waiting to buy lights, there are only 650 lights available. TA and I believe that there will be a fair number of people that decide not to purchase and/or drop out.

In 2 weeks we will see what the drop out rate is for the 3rd batch. There could be enough for everyone in batch #4 or it might be close.

Then in 4 weeks the last PM’s will go out and it will be a first come, first serve basis. I think everyone that orders in the first few days or week will get one, but if demand is still higher than supply, the people that try to order a week or two after the last PM’s arrive might miss out.

Again, we really don’t know for sure the drop out rate.

Thanks Texas, yeah I followed all instructions for my lights and paid. The paypal payment receipt has my old paypal e mail address on it. Even thought I updated to my new e mail address. And any notifications will be sent there. IE…. order confirmation, shipping tracking numbers, etc….. as per order instructions. I wanted to make sure Neal has correct and updated e mail to send all and any notifications in regard to my order.

I'm sure I'll like it. He is simply a talent and doing great videos!  Smile

The original GT-vid already reached 500k! - and this with a topic, which, unfortunately I have to say this, isn't targeting a broad audience.
But the GT for sure is no ED(C) light Wink  This thing is very special. Special in what the final product is, but also special how it came into life! Thanks again for that!

I'm waiting for my second now, and hope that there will be an upgrade kit available after GB has successfully closed...
I would really like to try to swap the MCPCB/LED on one. Maybe also the driver.... never done this before. So must be a fool proof solution... Wink

Your XHP70 GT beam-shot is impressive. (GT beamshot)

I am just waiting for my new lux meter to show up so I can get some numbers from the XHP70.2 GT’s I put together with the prototype mcpcb’s.

Then I will be listing one or both of them for sale. Figure I will auction them off and see how high they can go. I think I have earned making some profit off this project. Smile

Yep… technically you are correct Jason. Thumbs Up That is why I said “the short answer to your question is yes”. Wink

Because with the drop out rate AND the negotiations of TA with LT to cover everyone on the list…. it is ‘just about’ a certainity. Key words are “just about” ……. Wink

The short answer to your question is yes. You are guaranteed a GT at the GB buy price.

You number 1491 puts you in the 4th Payment PM group.

TA has stated it will be at least a month before the 4th Payment PM will be sent.

It’s kinda sad that some people will get as many as 4 lights and some will end up with nothing after waiting all these months for a PM to purchase one. Why can’t LT cover the entire GB list?

I am actually discussing this with lumintop as part of the deal for selling the lights publicly.

At this point it is a “lets wait and see how things go before we commit to this but we are open to it” type of answer.

I have ya’ll best in mind, trust me. But I also firmly believe a deal is only a deal if both parties benefit.

Got my PM. I was getting pretty sure I had been forgotten or something I put in 10 of the donations because I felt like the $800 or so raised so far was not enough. Anyway I am like Ralphie in A Christmas Story waiting for his Little Orphan Annie secret decoder ring.

I point to others in this group to justify how many flashlights I have.

I forgot about TA negotiating to cover everyone. Facepalm
We will see if that needs to be implemented in about 5 to 6 weeks.

Yahoo! Just ordered the light.

I had just enough to cover the flashlight battery expenses. I wanted to make a donation to the team as well but I did not have enough. Is there a link where I can make a donation once I get the funds?

Don’t feel like it is required to donate, it is completely optional.

If you want to you can use the same link you checked out with the first time to donate again later.

Here’s how I can see one way in using the Giga Thrower

Being a pilot, I fly day and/or night.  One night I was on final approach into a county airport and while on descent someone turned off the runway and taxiway lights. yell The airport was basically blacked out.  Being experienced and prepared, I grabbed my 6 D cell Maglite, (it being incandescent) which was the cats meow back then, out of my flight bag and shined it out the cockpit to light the runway.  My altitude was 400 feet and dropping fast and my light caught 3 deer on the runway.  As soon as they saw the light hit the runway from my Maglite, they b-lined into the trees.  I didn’t have to abort the landing and was able to see the landing strip and land without any incidence. While the Maglite did ok in getting me down, the GT would have really been the light to have if it had existed back then.

You can rest assured that the Giga Thrower will always be in my flight bag.

PS.  The reason that the landing runway lights went out was due to the local police shutting them off because they thought that my plane was smuggling in contraband/drugs.  I filed a a complaint against them and those involved were dismissed from the police force for reckless endangerment of life.

But I will say that the police thought they had something when I basically landed a twin engine with an incandescent flashlight.  The officer commented to me that he never saw anything like it. tongue-out

I have other uses for the GT that I will post here but let’s hear from you too.

That is an unusual situation. I can’t help you on that. Let’s see if TA or Madmax can give some insight. The order page might be having some difficulty.
