Proposal for a BLF defense flashlight

Buy Maglite 6d. Best self-defence light.
Mike

Yeah, negative vote for me too I’m afraid, bat flashlights are my second least favourite flashlight design, slightly behind those stupid taser-flashlight combo things.

I’m sorry, whilst a little of what you have written is correct most of it is completely incorrect. There is no justification for a Policeman to stop you carrying or using any size/power of flashlight, unless as you rightly say it is primarily designed as a weapon or you are out in the country hunting deer or something equally illegal - if you were out in a van in the country late at night they may well tell you off, but I see no reason they would take it off you unless they found other ‘poaching’ equipment. there is NO law saying you can’t carry a big torch, and as such they cannot remove it from you unless you are doing silly things with it. You would probably get a warning if that was the case.
I have never heard of any instance where a flashlight was taken from someone just because they were carrying it, and there is NO law whatsoever about it where ‘specialist use’ is taken into account (brightness wise), I have no idea where you get that from, if it has been modified to be a weapon, then yes of course they can remove it.
Also carrying a big Maglite making them suspicious? where on earth are you getting all this misinformation from? they can be as suspicious as they like but unless you are breaking a law that can’t remove it from you.
If you tell them at any point it’s for self defence, once again, they can remove it - but who is going to say that???

At no point did I say that the police could confiscate a big Maglite or a high-powered torch just because you were carrying it. What I did say was that they would want to know why you had it.

I have a fairly reliable TrustFire TR-1200 with the 3X18650 extension tube that gets the job done. I’ve used it to beat back an aggressive dog or two, I’m sure it would work on a person. But, for real protection, I carry a gun. Someone breaks into my house, they have a LOT more to worry about than a flashlight.

That reminded me of a story, I knew this one lady who was pretty much fearless. She would fight men in bars and everything and win. Was my best friends mom god bless her soul. She’s passed on at 45 from a brain tumor. But anyways a pitbull was coming to attack her. When it came to bite her she shoved her hand down to dogs throat and messed it up good that dog ran off with its tail tucked

I can just see myself confronting the burglar with my obnoxiously long light. The non hidden strobe goes off and the beatdown becomes “I declare a dance war”

I’ll just strap a tube light to my wooden baseball bat that I keep by my bedside. You could also use something like a Q8 to add more “heft.”

Well, I’ll jumping and give my 2 cents worth. It’s the responsibility of each to know the do’s and don’t s of their country. If you don’t know then don’t do. Now with that out of the way. As a defensive weapon it should be big enough to work and small enough to be carried and not left behind.

A thick walled 2-26650 like the Convoy L6 comes close. The L6 head however looks like a mace, that’s not good. The Convoy L4 looks better with it’s smaller head and side switch. The fins have to go, they look too much like a weapon. Blunt trauma doesn’t need fins. I know it’s needed for cooling and a jury might even be convinced of it with expensive expert witnesses. The Convoy L6 thick walled single piece body tube with the less aggressive looking L4 head. Even that side switch on the head makes it look my like a flashlight and not a weapon. Lettering on the flashlight should say “weather proof”, that’s why its stout. “Eco friendly”, that’s all warm and fuzzy like kittens and puppies. Not “skull crush” or anything hinting at a dual purpose. It needs to be bright, triple XP-L or single XHP-70. It’s first and for most a flashlight, it’s just one that is extremely tough. Anodize it in pretty colors; hot pink, sky blue, safety yellow, forest green.

A thick walled single 18650, 21700 or 26650 tube light can also be used as a kubotan or yawara. A tail standing switch also gives an impact edge as does a steel bezel.

The chance of ever using a flashlight as a weapon is extremely remote. So let’s make it a good flashlight first and not one that say’s it’s a weapon. Lot’s of folks say “I’d rather be tried by 12 instead of carried by 6” How about neither, survive an assault and loss it all in court. Lawyer are expensive and the state doesn’t pay for yours even if found not guilty.

just solder a nail on a light, like a ti3 and you’re done

I would settle for a good 3d maglite clone that takes 18650’s or 26650’s.

That sounds like a colorful scene!

You may as well install a motion sensing stereo system that plays Techno music at volume 11 with large subwoofers!

Agree on this.
It should fly under the radar and not attract unwanted attention.
Thick head/bezel and copious amounts of copper in head for durability and heft.
Grippy handle

A straight 2x 18650 tube light that would double as a baton might be useful as a defense tool as well as a reasonable flashlight .I think the baseball bat light is one of the dumber lights ever made apart from the bug zapper light .The bat light always seemed like a huge gimmick light .It has immediate humorous appeal but am doubting the thought that it’s ever been a big seller .It’s clearly a weapon and any judge would beat YOU mercilessly for ever using one .
A nice 2 or 3 cell 18650 or 26650 nicely balanced/ really bright with a seizure inducing strobe and Ui that allows it to start on high or start on strobe along with a 30 minute video on how to use a baton for self defense might make an interesting light .Maybe some square knurling like on the jacob A60. The lights battiness isn’t going to make it easier for you to beat someone down ,it will always be dependant on your own ability .otherwise the person will simply take it from you and pulverize you with your own toy . If you have real skill you can kill someone using a red Black Cat with a green emitter…. (made in Gemany)

Maybe make the light have such bad PWM it makes your attacker nauseous :confounded:

I guess people forgot dbcustom tried to get a group buy on a bat light already and there wasn’t enough interest. If this fizzles I’ll just buy one off Amazon and mod it to my liking. People were actually interested in that thread. None of that butt hurt stuff like in this thread. Comparing the two threads you can see how much blf has changed. The snowflakes are everywhere now

Carrying a baseball bat in a car is fine , just make sure it’s sitting with a baseball & gloves / stumps or whatever.

Quite agree, too many snowflakes everwhere, is happening on all forums.

Id be in, but sadly in the UK something like this would be fround upon.
So its a 6 cell mag light for me and you can always legally carry a couple of spare d cell batteries for it too, keep them in a long sock to stop then shorting out in your coat pocket

i always bring small knife and a knucle duster, if one of it fail the other will do the job.

Convoy L6 instant turbo and plenty of heft.

Why in a country were you can legally purchase and carry a handgun would you want to defend yourself with a club?
