Proposal for a BLF defense flashlight

At no point did I say that the police could confiscate a big Maglite or a high-powered torch just because you were carrying it. What I did say was that they would want to know why you had it.

I have a fairly reliable TrustFire TR-1200 with the 3X18650 extension tube that gets the job done. I’ve used it to beat back an aggressive dog or two, I’m sure it would work on a person. But, for real protection, I carry a gun. Someone breaks into my house, they have a LOT more to worry about than a flashlight.

That reminded me of a story, I knew this one lady who was pretty much fearless. She would fight men in bars and everything and win. Was my best friends mom god bless her soul. She’s passed on at 45 from a brain tumor. But anyways a pitbull was coming to attack her. When it came to bite her she shoved her hand down to dogs throat and messed it up good that dog ran off with its tail tucked

I can just see myself confronting the burglar with my obnoxiously long light. The non hidden strobe goes off and the beatdown becomes “I declare a dance war”

I’ll just strap a tube light to my wooden baseball bat that I keep by my bedside. You could also use something like a Q8 to add more “heft.”

Well, I’ll jumping and give my 2 cents worth. It’s the responsibility of each to know the do’s and don’t s of their country. If you don’t know then don’t do. Now with that out of the way. As a defensive weapon it should be big enough to work and small enough to be carried and not left behind.

A thick walled 2-26650 like the Convoy L6 comes close. The L6 head however looks like a mace, that’s not good. The Convoy L4 looks better with it’s smaller head and side switch. The fins have to go, they look too much like a weapon. Blunt trauma doesn’t need fins. I know it’s needed for cooling and a jury might even be convinced of it with expensive expert witnesses. The Convoy L6 thick walled single piece body tube with the less aggressive looking L4 head. Even that side switch on the head makes it look my like a flashlight and not a weapon. Lettering on the flashlight should say “weather proof”, that’s why its stout. “Eco friendly”, that’s all warm and fuzzy like kittens and puppies. Not “skull crush” or anything hinting at a dual purpose. It needs to be bright, triple XP-L or single XHP-70. It’s first and for most a flashlight, it’s just one that is extremely tough. Anodize it in pretty colors; hot pink, sky blue, safety yellow, forest green.

A thick walled single 18650, 21700 or 26650 tube light can also be used as a kubotan or yawara. A tail standing switch also gives an impact edge as does a steel bezel.

The chance of ever using a flashlight as a weapon is extremely remote. So let’s make it a good flashlight first and not one that say’s it’s a weapon. Lot’s of folks say “I’d rather be tried by 12 instead of carried by 6” How about neither, survive an assault and loss it all in court. Lawyer are expensive and the state doesn’t pay for yours even if found not guilty.

just solder a nail on a light, like a ti3 and you’re done

I would settle for a good 3d maglite clone that takes 18650’s or 26650’s.

That sounds like a colorful scene!

You may as well install a motion sensing stereo system that plays Techno music at volume 11 with large subwoofers!

Agree on this.
It should fly under the radar and not attract unwanted attention.
Thick head/bezel and copious amounts of copper in head for durability and heft.
Grippy handle

A straight 2x 18650 tube light that would double as a baton might be useful as a defense tool as well as a reasonable flashlight .I think the baseball bat light is one of the dumber lights ever made apart from the bug zapper light .The bat light always seemed like a huge gimmick light .It has immediate humorous appeal but am doubting the thought that it’s ever been a big seller .It’s clearly a weapon and any judge would beat YOU mercilessly for ever using one .
A nice 2 or 3 cell 18650 or 26650 nicely balanced/ really bright with a seizure inducing strobe and Ui that allows it to start on high or start on strobe along with a 30 minute video on how to use a baton for self defense might make an interesting light .Maybe some square knurling like on the jacob A60. The lights battiness isn’t going to make it easier for you to beat someone down ,it will always be dependant on your own ability .otherwise the person will simply take it from you and pulverize you with your own toy . If you have real skill you can kill someone using a red Black Cat with a green emitter…. (made in Gemany)

Maybe make the light have such bad PWM it makes your attacker nauseous :confounded:

I guess people forgot dbcustom tried to get a group buy on a bat light already and there wasn’t enough interest. If this fizzles I’ll just buy one off Amazon and mod it to my liking. People were actually interested in that thread. None of that butt hurt stuff like in this thread. Comparing the two threads you can see how much blf has changed. The snowflakes are everywhere now

Carrying a baseball bat in a car is fine , just make sure it’s sitting with a baseball & gloves / stumps or whatever.

Quite agree, too many snowflakes everwhere, is happening on all forums.

Id be in, but sadly in the UK something like this would be fround upon.
So its a 6 cell mag light for me and you can always legally carry a couple of spare d cell batteries for it too, keep them in a long sock to stop then shorting out in your coat pocket

i always bring small knife and a knucle duster, if one of it fail the other will do the job.

Convoy L6 instant turbo and plenty of heft.

Why in a country were you can legally purchase and carry a handgun would you want to defend yourself with a club?

You have no idea how long I was looking for one of those…

All sold out, discontinued, nope, nada, nuh-uh, nyet, etc.

Because you can legally purchase one doesn’t mean you can legally carry it. My state has open carry law as long as the firearm is visible and not pointed at anyone you can go anywhere in public with it. Except stores that have a notice saying no weapons aloud.

Most states don’t have a open carry law. To be able to carry it you have to get a concealed carry permit.
Also in my state you can ride with it legally loaded with one in the chamber. But the next state over 20 mins away the laws differ. It has to be a 3 step process meaning, the pistol can be up front, the bullets and magazine have to be in a separate compartment such as the trunk. You have to get the pistol then retrieve the magazine then load it. Every state has different laws. Some states can’t even have it in your vehicle besides going hunting or etc and they have to be put in a certain way and unloaded. America isn’t the wild west as people think. There are more then enough gun laws in place. When I bought my guns from the sports store. They won’t let you have the gun and bullets together. At the counter if your looking at the fire arm and want to look at the bullets it uses you have to hand the fire arm back before they give you the ammo. And you can purchase them together. But they escort you to the register then escort you to the door. Then hand you your purchase as your going outside After a back ground check of course they take your driver license and run it through a federal database. Takes about 20 minutes.

Reminds me of a story when I was in the Marines there was this pog (non infantry mos) he had never been in a fight was kinda smaller and short. Maybe 5foot 4 120lbs. This one guy kept picking on him and picking on him would go up and just *itch slap him and call it the hand of justice. When he would get bored he would say it’s hand of justice time. One day we were on deck alone and the guy maybe 5 foot 10 160lbs cornered him by the lockers. He was going in his locker. He took his lock and baseball threw it into the guys face from like 1 foot away. And that’s all the poor kid got in. He got the snot beat out of him. When he tried throwing the guy off the 3rd story stairs onto the concrete below that’s when we stepped in and stopped it. People do stupid stuff when their young and a testosterone fueled environment. It’s kinda like school or jail. Even if you know you’ll probably lose fight anyway and they’ll respect you afterwards and so will everyone else and you’ll get left alone after because everyone knows you’ll fight and won’t be such a easy target. Now watching 2 infantry guys who are trained to fight and kill go at it is very entertaining. It’s kinda like UFC but with no referee. To become a black belt with red stripes in the Marines you have to take 2 or 3 guys at the same time. Depending on the level and it’s a real fight. I’m not joking when I say any Marine mcmap instructor could take on anyone in the UFC easily. The Marines developed their own Martial arts. They took bits and pieces from every martial art out there and combined it. No fancy moves just stuff that works. Whether it’s to disable the enemy or snap their neck and move to the next guy. To really rank up in infantry you have to move up in your mcmap belts. But your story brings back memories. If you ever seen full metal jacket, soap in a sock works doesn’t leave many external bruises and it does happen. A bar of soap is pretty much like metal it’s not going to break no matter how hard you hit someone with it. But I never saw anyone get beat in bootcamp that didn’t deserve it. Everyone messes up a few times and the whole platoon gets smoked for it. The di do it on purpose. And that’s alright But there’s always a few guys that constantly mess up day in and out and get everyone messed up. Just like the movie, they get their act together afterwards minus killing the di and committing suicide
