Proposal for a BLF defense flashlight

I want one just for the fun of it.

Many of us would try to buy a quality version just to keep in the house or garage for a conversation piece, many people own various knives, edged weapons and blunt or martial arts weapons that they can’t carry or use, but are cool to have.

OOOHH! Cool! I got Rude! points! I haven’t had those in a while! I guess we did break the rules a little with our “political” talk, huh? :person_facepalming:

Anyway, hope you guys find a light that meets your needs without getting you in trouble with the authorities…

I got a rock… :weary:

Where I live, the only thing that threatens my safety is irresponsible owners of large and dangerous dogs. I’m not saying that’s you, just saying that dog owners in general need to realize they pose a threat to completely innocent strangers, especially children. It’s like scattering land mines on the road in front of your house, or walking around with a gun pointed at every stranger.

IMO, pitbulls are the absolute worst, and the breed should be sterilized and eliminated in a generation. But, yes, I get that pitbull owners think they are adorable and the friendliest pets ever… until one day they snap.

BTW, 2 nights ago I actually made a dog stop… for a brief second, when it was barking at me and chasing me on my bike. I blasted it with a Astrolux C8 (about 100,000 candella). Big, ugly MF’er, but it looked shocked, then proceeded to give chase again. I’ve never had a light stop any dog before.

+1. I spent 6 months in south Africa with a guy who couldn’t understand the concept of not having 9ft fences topped with razor wire around your house. For the most part, the UK is fairly safe, this is why we don’t need guns. Hows that for a freedom?

I’m not trying to cause upset, just trying to explain to all the gun activists that we are mostly happy without guns.

Yep, a slightly hijacked thread. I’m a Texas Peace Officer, 25 years experience a little perspective maybe. Most American are law abiding wouldn’t hurt a fly kind of people. Then we have a few really evil and a few truly crazy. We get some shootings, some stabbings and other assaults from hammers to cars. Evil and/or crazy does tend to be rare not nearly as bad as the media over plays it. It does happen and I’ve got a jail nearby with plenty. We’ve got killers, rapist, child molester, drunk drivers, thieves. Some are animals some are still human and a few in between. I carry a Glock 19 off duty and a Glock 21 on duty, in all my years I never had to shoot anyone. Very few of my other officers have. We tend to get there after the fact, so I support the right of self defense. However if you are on the wrong side of the law, full weight of the law. Our jails are revolving doors for fucktards that keep coming back until they get killed or commit and get caught for a serious felony that puts them away for a long time. I see these people with page after page of charges, on parole or probation still getting arrested. I believe in total resistance, they have to fight hard for ever ill gotten good they want to take from me. So that being said I’m not taking chances that a house burglar only want a few item and won’t harm me or family. Our inner city schools are trashed and under funded. So instead of giving an education and hope our government gives points to college and hiring quotas.

I wish we could all live in a world where the government could take care of us all from cradle to grave. But what point would I go from free citizen to subject. Government health care could be denied to a child cause it wasn’t cost effective. Law could strip me of my right to self defense and arrest me for hurting a burglar. Some one could rent a car, van or truck to ram people down. I could be arrested for speech not approved of by committee or politically correct and called hate speech. I could be forced to buy kitchen silverware in a store with proper ID. I could be protected by secret courts. We’ve got Canadians buying American health issuance in case they run out of quota care limits.

So as a free citizen I accept the weight of that responsibility. I like my Constitution and it’s Amendments, except Amendment 16 and 18. It ain’t perfect but it’s a semi free country in most states.

P.S. Now lets see how many rude points, haven’t gotten any yet.

P.P.S. Most of those self defense lights are crap as flashlights an not so good as defensive tools.

P.P.P.S. I recommend having some training like jogging, judo and a good tactical awareness of your surroundings so you don’t have to break your flashlight.

Moving back towards defence lights, I have wondered whether a right-angle light with a hand protection bar would be a better idea than a straight flashlight.

It occurs to me that when you swing a bat light to hit something, the light is immediately pointing somewhere else and you can’t see your target any more. With a right-angle light, you’d be able to keep the light pointed at your target as you punched it.

Something like this, with the hand protection bar in red:

You’d hold the light by the battery tube as normal, with your fingers going between the battery tube and the hand protection bar. If you had to hit someone, the light would naturally point in the direction of your punch, and the bar would protect your fingers.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind having one of those just to use, never mind hitting anyone with it. Being legally blind, I’m forever walking into things, even with a light and a cane. I wear impact gloves, but my hands still take quite a bashing sometimes, so the more protection I can get for them, the better.

Here’s a laugh for ya. They pretty much banned BB guns here, yeah pellet guns!
It’s easier to get a shotgun license than a permit for a .177 air or spring powered “weapon” :open_mouth:  :weary:

On topic, I have a Solarforce Gladiator.

CRX (please don’t take offense to this lol) you don’t need a permit for a spring powered air rifle, .177 or .22 unless it’s over powered (12 ft lb) - it has been like that for decades.
You cannot own self-contained gas cartridge weapons (that HAS changed since I owned one decades ago) however C02 bulb type ones are still legal (not over powered), so far as I can see.
It is NOT easy to get a shotgun license either - you have to jump through a good few hoops, and be visited by the Police to check where the cabinets are etc, you also have to have somewhere to use them.
So long as you tick all the boxes you would have no real problem though.
They have not ‘pretty much’ banned BB guns either (ones that fire plastic balls) so long as they have an orange muzzle and you don’t walk around the street brandishing it - that is more to avoid people being shot by police when using VERY realistic looking ‘toys’. The ones that fire steel ball bearings are classed as air rifles and they are not banned either, unless again they are over 12ft lb or gas cartridge ones.

On topic  , if you ever use that Solarforce on anyone, or the Police caught you with it outside (and maybe inside), you could be the one being warned/arrested and that is law.

 For a brain to “see the light” :crown:

They introduced the new legislation in Scotland first, 31 December 2016. I meant CO2 powered BB guns.
I gather you are in England Goose?

Coming your way soon no doubt…

Ah, I see, forgot you were in Scotland! :person_facepalming: :+1:

How could you forget with an accent like mine

Lol!

You might have something there. Now it’s time to test. Take one and try it out on a punching bag or hard mattress. I’m thinking with that design striking down with the end cap no modification needed. Possible with thumb over top to get a better slip free grip. Don’t worry about where the light is pointing, that’s a distraction. Focus on striking. Also get it in Safety Red not Angry Red. Your cane my be the better tool Canes, Staffs, And Hidden Sword Canes | Cold Steel or a water pistol loaded with steak sauce and a big hungry dog. Stay safe and have fun.

You shouldn’t fret about rude points when you make a good argument. I’d be anti-gun if I lived in the US but I totally get your point and it’s well explained and not offensive at all

I consider this a much more usefull self protection flashlight. Add a seat belt cutter and make sure the tip is capable of breaking a windshield and it’s a great glove box companion

That is brilliant. I think it is time to start the thread on designing that fighting “easy hold no-lose light”.

We need to combine the most effective ‘fighting’ yet most benign looking version of “the easy hold light”, i.e. describing it as “for arthritis sufferers, boaters, hikers”.

The right design can be a fighter that looks legal and non (or not very) threatening.

Texas Shooter, very well said sir.

I’m definitely interested in a “self defense” light. And I really like this idea:

But with a spike at the bottom like this:

And a taser on the front like this:

I’ve considered buying one of the bat/flashlight combos online, but in order to swing the bat, you would have to take the beam off of your assailant. Kinda defeats the purpose in my opinion. Imagine walking with it on a dark night and you get in a “batters stance.” You’d probably lose sight and would be guessing on when to swing.

Obviously whatever is made will be prohibited in certain countries. So I’d like to see a project that stays true to being a “self defense weapon” rather than trying to appease a minority where such items are prohibited.

My BLF defense flashlight or for short walks
