Proposal for a BLF defense flashlight

How could you forget with an accent like mine

Lol!

You might have something there. Now it’s time to test. Take one and try it out on a punching bag or hard mattress. I’m thinking with that design striking down with the end cap no modification needed. Possible with thumb over top to get a better slip free grip. Don’t worry about where the light is pointing, that’s a distraction. Focus on striking. Also get it in Safety Red not Angry Red. Your cane my be the better tool Canes, Staffs, And Hidden Sword Canes | Cold Steel or a water pistol loaded with steak sauce and a big hungry dog. Stay safe and have fun.

You shouldn’t fret about rude points when you make a good argument. I’d be anti-gun if I lived in the US but I totally get your point and it’s well explained and not offensive at all

I consider this a much more usefull self protection flashlight. Add a seat belt cutter and make sure the tip is capable of breaking a windshield and it’s a great glove box companion

That is brilliant. I think it is time to start the thread on designing that fighting “easy hold no-lose light”.

We need to combine the most effective ‘fighting’ yet most benign looking version of “the easy hold light”, i.e. describing it as “for arthritis sufferers, boaters, hikers”.

The right design can be a fighter that looks legal and non (or not very) threatening.

Texas Shooter, very well said sir.

I’m definitely interested in a “self defense” light. And I really like this idea:

But with a spike at the bottom like this:

And a taser on the front like this:

I’ve considered buying one of the bat/flashlight combos online, but in order to swing the bat, you would have to take the beam off of your assailant. Kinda defeats the purpose in my opinion. Imagine walking with it on a dark night and you get in a “batters stance.” You’d probably lose sight and would be guessing on when to swing.

Obviously whatever is made will be prohibited in certain countries. So I’d like to see a project that stays true to being a “self defense weapon” rather than trying to appease a minority where such items are prohibited.

My BLF defense flashlight or for short walks

Not everyone wants to escalate that fast. Some want less than lethal options.

It is the you may have it, but no one wants to actually use it.

Serious “out of the box”,“as is” lights that can do the job as cop tested.

Plus the new and improved.

Both not too expensive and designed for hard use. The rubber grip will keep it in your hand. The metal head will split theirs. Don’t ever get cheap with personal well being. Both waterproof, I hear it rains in Scotland. Not some unheard of off brand.

Two great choices.

I am really liking my Olight.

Unfortunately, I need light on target, hence punching forward with the hand protection bar rather than striking downward (kubotan style?) as you suggest. I have no night vision whatsoever, so taking the beam off target means I lose the target altogether. I do take your point in general, though.

Well played, sir

I have never thought about that. Nope. No. Definitely not.

I had to laugh at the Liverpool Assassin, though!

I don’t have a guide dog, but I’m quietly chuckling to myself as I imagine one trained to be meek and mild as guide dogs generally are, yet turn into a warhound when it sees anything coated in steak sauce

Thank you. I do believe we’ve found our marketing expert for the BLF EasiGrip No Drop Light

Unfortunately, the UK would prohibit your version, so I wouldn’t subscribe to that viewpoint.

On a more general note, when I consider the morass of country-by-country or even state-by-state legislation, it would probably be better for the putative manufacturer to make a range of several versions with many parts in common. That would let them sell everything from the wimpy Brit version right up to the deluxe failed state assault trooper model.

It also occurs to me that it might be possible to make the hand protection bar as a user-installable add-on for an existing right-angle flashlight, which would offer still another option.

“”EasiGrip No Drop Light”” is a fantastic name.

9mm +p out of a 3.5” barrel provides a very nice defensive flash of light

Can I get it in 90CRI?

Phlogiston, I’m sad for the sorry state of your lands affairs. Our best weapon is the mind. You’ll have to use wit over brawn in your physical condition. We generally get two types of predators. Young healthy male that prey upon the weak as predators do in the wild. Then there is the mentally ill that lash out at who they focus on with little regard on size or strength. Carry yourself tall, confident and proud don’t look weak. Your probably a bit more familiar with your area than the thugs, exploit that knowledge. To be brutally honest with you. If you have poor vision and a weak grip, needing a cane. Then physical self defense is not a viable option. Any self defense weapon made from a flashlight would only be an illusion. My last knock down drag out with a coked up 18 year old left me with a torn rotator cuff, ripped ear, broken nose and broken molar. I had a radio in hand. It was so unexpected and fast. I only could use the radio in hand to repeated beat him in the skull until it split and he lost the will to keep assaulting me. Our blood was every where. Be serious with yourself over what you can and can’t do. Do you have the strength, stamina, dexterity, and will to win?

I’m going over your self defense laws in Scotland. Your country has sunk to a level of out right shame in denying your people the right to even resist being a victim. No offensive weapons, no defensive weapons, very little ability to even fight back without feeling the weight of the law for violating your attackers rights. Your land is one step away from outlawing testosterone and the penis. Jail time for offensive or none politically correct speech?

Thank you for the advice, Texas Shooter. You’re essentially correct on every point.

My only problem is my loss of sensory capacity; everything else works as it should. The snag is, I can’t run, because a blind person’s cane is only useful at walking pace, so I’d trip or run into something in pretty short order, which would leave me completely at the mercy of an attacker.

If some guy comes up to me and says “give me your money or I kick your teeth in”, I hand over the cash. If he runs up to me screaming obscenities and starts swinging, I fight, because there is no other option.

As you say, in all brutal honesty, I’m very unlikely to win, but we Scots are not known for giving up. If push ever comes to shove, I’ll be out to do real damage in self-defence, and you never know, I might just get that lucky hit in that turns things my way. The guy might even trip and suddenly find himself on the receiving end. It may only be a 1% chance, but I’ll be trying for it.

Brad: how dare you! The sheer insult of it! You just made an enemy for life!

That’s the spirit, make them pay with sweat and blood every ill gotten item. Still a thin strong cane could be used like a sjambok whip. Use a good Brass Ferrule too.
