Proposal for a BLF defense flashlight

My country since it fell into the hands of the “compañeros” has been on the same path
The worst part is that we’re already at the mercy of the criminals
Our minister of the interior, the chief of all police, is an amnestied criminal

I have an advantage over many citizens
For my health problem I “must” use a cane, I made it from a single piece good wood
I don’t need it, but since the doctor recommended I use it, I use it

My friend, I understand this feeling. I saw the ‘no tolerance’ rules we have in the US schools. You cannot defend yourself against a bully anymore. The will just use the internet to bully you (anonymously or make a fake account) and maybe even hit you knowing this ‘zero tolerance’ rule.

I remember as a child I was the thinnest, shortest, generally weakest person and some bullies thought it would be a good way to beat someone up. I got beaten up, fought back, and they stopped picking on me because it wasn’t worth it and as far as I know we were on ok terms but they didn’t bully again. Another older kid did the same but I was smarter than him and beat him up, and we ended up walking home together afterwards as friends. That will never happen in the climate of our schools today.

If I have a child I will tell him to not follow these ridiculous rules. If they are going to kick students out due to them defending themselves against bullies (who if they follow through with their physical assaults obviously don’t care about being expelled) then I wouldn’t want them to stay in such a toxic environment anyway.

I thought it is a stick with light facility :p. Interesting flashlight for the security officer.
But, a tactical quality flashlight will prefer all law enforcement members https://tacticalflashlightguide.com/. Because only this types of flashlights can be used for self-defense.

Actually, yes, I have to admit you’re right about that.

I wandered off into “what if I were a manufacturer planning to make this thing” mode for a moment!

My Little Pony stickers are good, anything to make it look less suspicious to the police. We need to do a blue version as well, though. Can’t be having those gender stereotypes, after all.

Sounds pretty terrifying, to me. Like something an evil clown would use to beat you to death. Shudder….

mmalive, I just noticed the Gladiator is available from KD: http://www.kaidomain.com/p/S022941.Solarforce-Gladiator-Flashlight-Shell

Keep in mind the gladiator is a body only (even from Solarforce) you still need a drop-in light engine, but KD has the best selection of dropins too.

Thanks guys, got a good chuckle from

“My Little Pony stickers”

and

“evil clown”

Thread was gettin’ too serious for a while. :expressionless:

Kinda redundant, though. All clowns are evil.

I would be interested in a tactical/defensive light but with different specs. In the ball park of 2x18650-2x26650 tube, around 50mm head diameter, rechargeable base, rear and side switch, decent throw, and decent run time.

If I were you , start taking self defense classes or some Taekwondo. I worked with 3 guys, one from South Vietnam, 2 from South Korea. They grew up learning Taekwondo from their parents. It’s not all about kicking, it’s really about Self Defense. You may be surprised how much you can learn from just 1 yr of sparring like I did. You will feel less afraid of the bad guys after you see you can protect yourself without weapons ( except for guns of course ). Watching videos on self defense is not the same as sparring with a teacher, you have to engage to learn, practice moves with another person for it to be effective. First, learn and practice the moves. Second, develop speed. Third, hitting power comes from using the first two. Lifting weights should be limited because it slows your speed down. You don’t need a belt, just some Self Defense Training that will make your life more enjoyable.

What is word on the project. Money ready to go once group buy named.

I honestly don’t see a project happening. With so many countries represented here it would be almost impossible to make a lighted bat. Why anyone would want it I still have yet to understand. That would get through customs, and if it did would it actually be lawful to carry. It’s basically a novelty. I don’t see why any company of any decent quality agreeing to mass produce this thing. Those of you of mechanically inclined may to better to build your own. That way some lawyer somewhere can’t hold a flashlight manufacturer liable for someone else’s wrong doing with their product. You know, now days we have to take into consideration the stupid that live among us. We have to pay the higher prices for those who weren’t taught better.

Buy a bat and a drill. Drill hole in bat. Jam flashlight in there. Seal into place. Done.

Todd, you always seem to be on right track. But, in this case you are wrong man.

With the laws these days with conceal permit for everything from firearms, knives, etc… makes it extremely difficult for people to defend themselves if in life crisis situations.

The batlight makes very sensible facts of safety. Having a good flashlight that can double as defensive tool if needed for any type of violent attacks.

Todd, you must live in country area or small town where violence in very minimal.

Try living in So Cal like me. We see violence everyday. And on top of that very difficult to get licensed to carry any type of defensive tool legally.

I collect batlights. Some are even sold at Walmart/HomeDepot of all places. But the quality is OK. Not top notch. I would pay for hardened steel version any day.

Back to subject anyone still on board with the Batlight project? ? Count me in.,

mmalive, I completely understand and I was not putting down this project as a whole. I was just saying that for all the different countries and states this would have to be sold in, that it might be complicated to make lawful in all areas. I know that in some places in the US a bat is not considered a weapon and that in some other states it alone is considered a weapon. Take where I live into consideration, I can conceal a firearm with out a permit, I can carry switch blades and automatic knives, tasers, baton’s, and just about any other blunt object, but as soon as I put brass knuckles in my pocket I am a felon. Then when you take the same thing into European countries laws get extremely difficult from one place to the next. I think it’s a good idea I just don’t think from a manufacturers stand point they would be willing to produce it. Of course companies can produce anything they like and in the end it’s up to the purchaser to make sure they are obeying the laws of their land. I just don’t think, in my opinion, and my opinion only they are willing to open themselves up to that kind of scrutiny.

Does make sense. Not to many options these days for defensive tools. Getting harder and harder. Especially with all the violence in that news reporting.

I have bought multiple Batlights from different retailers here. 6 Ozark Trails from Walmart, 4 Defiants from HomeDepot etc…… These must be legal otherwise these guys would not sell them.

Would rather have hardened aluminum or steel version.

Hell yes, if you are going to have one you better go down swinging. LOL

I don’t know what state or country you live in. Those areas that don’t allow their citizens to defend themselves shouldn’t be allowed to govern. If a bat is all you can have then by all means get lots of bats. If you are in a gun friendly state, buy lots of those, just be careful as to who you allow access to those weapons.

If they made a great, well built bat light that I could turn one of my kids or wife loose with for a walk I would most certainly buy it. You were correct, I do live in a area with almost no crime at all. I live almost but not quite out in the sticks and not many people come out this way. I use to live in a very urban environment but moved out when I hit the age of reason.

Sometimes your would-be attackers aren’t even the two-legged variety, amazingly enough.

Back when I had a little terrier-mix and would walk him around the nabe, some Big Dog (by the brown+black coloring, looked like a rott/dobe mix of some sort, definitely a mutt) came after mine and wanted to eat him. Only thing I could do was kick him right squah in the nuts. Had nothing else on me. Good thing the mutt didn’t turn on me instead, ’cause maybe I just got in that lucky shot.

Different time, the neighbor across the street had 2 rotts, too, and when I just let my dog out by the tree to do his thing, I see them come running up. Two of them. Hell, I just grabbed a big-ass golf-umbrella and was gonna spear one of ’em with the pointy end when the owner yelled at them to stop, and amazingly they did. He saw I was already winding up, didn’t say a word.

Even now, what would I do, beg the beastie to wait ’til I fished my Sanremu outta my pocket and opened it up? Kinda get weird looks walking with a Fairbairn Sykes sticking outta my pocket, so…

So hey, full steam ahead with the Bat Utility Light. 2 legs or 4, crack ’em over the melon with it.

Suggestion? If you’re gonna do it from scratch, just hollow out an Al tube to be able to stick a “flashlight module” in the end, then intentionally leave enough space to you can “cast” Pb or solder into it to hold the tube.

“Whoops, wanted to use a 26650 light, but all I got’s this teeny 16340 light. That’s why it’s got 2lbs of Pb at the swinging end…”

There ya go.

As a Peace Officer I can tell you “NO”. Legal to buy and legal to possess does not equally to legal for other uses or even carry. Walmart sells baseball bats, I can not randomly carry one around. It’s primary purpose is in question when it looks like a weapon but has a superficial secondary use. A good example is using a tire iron as a key fob. Spray paint legal to buy, illegal to huff. Another fine item that burns a few are Tire Thumpers. Legal to sell in many states that consider it a weapon. The use of an item is also a considering factor. Once again tire irons, screw drivers and hammers are generally legal to buy, posses and use. Carry one in a city and arrest could be a real possibility even without a self defense use. I only need probably cause to arrest. To convict the State needs beyond a reasonable doubt. So you might beat the rap but you can’t beat the ride.

Don’t need no stinking flashlight when you got Ninja Man in pajamas

As a peace officer you should know the law better. Your argument makes NO sense from whole picture of situtation. The PRIMARY purpose of buying bat flashlight at Walmart, HomeDepot, etc…… is to use as illumination. No one goes into store on intent to buy a striking weapon? Come on guy. Use common sense.

Walking at night( to car, excercise, etc… ) one might encounter a rapist, mean attack dog, serial killer, etc…. What recourse does one have to defend themselves during attack? Defend yourself with what you have. In this case a flashlight that can be used as defensive tool.

You either defend yourself with what you have. OR you become a STATISTIC. There is your answer on why you need bat flashlight.
