14500 sizes

Hey guys, are these cells suppose to be same size as AA? One if mine is about 1/4 longer. Please advise.

Unprotected flat top 14500 is the same size as AA. A button top may add a mm and protection add a couple of mm

Maybe is it protected. Can you show as a photo?

I do not know how to post pictures on here. But for sure it has a PCB and much longer than regular AA. The reason is one of my lights uses AA x 2. I can not fit them in at all. Both 14500 are longer.

The 14500 is 1/4” longer than AA for sure. I measured it.

The name brand is Digital Energy World. Sold a few years ago at Radioshack.

I hope you weren’t going to put 2x14500 in a 2xAA light, even if they would fit.

Posting tutorial:

Why not please? Then that means I might end up making spacer if only 1 is used?

If AA are in parallel and your flashligt works also with 14500 you can, but if is it in seriese not because you will have 8.4V instead or 3V.

14500 is about the same size as an AA, but its a 3.7V battery. AA batteries are 1.5V. You can find 14500 batteries that are compatible though with AA batteries.

Both batteries will be installed with + end towards head and next battery right behind it. That is the reason I can not fit both in there. Both 14500 will be 1/2” longer.

14500 li ion have 3,6V nominal 4.2V maximum not 1.7

Ooh, the battery is 3.7V according to package on battery.

Your lucky was longer , otherwise you burned your FL

Cool thanks. So I can use 1 and make spacer?

I’m not sure depend of your FL specification , if works with 4.2V Yes.

If you got the 14500s in order to have rechargeable batteries, look into getting some Eneloop AA instead. They will be the correct voltage for your light and are high quality.

And now that you have some 14500s, now you can add to your collection and buy a light that takes them. Just make sure the light you get specifically says it will take protected 14500s.

I agree too ,best advice for you.

These are the 2.
